2ndSpring got a reaction from Ricanvsg in Sharing with coworkers??
I chose to keep it private. I am proud that I had the surgery, but I know myself and I know it would get under my skin when people have to voice their opinions even though they are not educated on the topic. Like this....I knew someone who had the surgery and they gained it all back...or... weight loss is all about calories in vs calories out, have you tried dieting. grrrr... Or the people who will monitor you from now on..... are you allowed to eat that?

No, it is not too late for you. After all, you'll be sleeved for life, foverer and ever. It's not as if your banana-shaped sleeve disappears into thin air after one year.
Here's the caveat...you are the only one who can conjure up the intrinsic motivation to get back on track and stay there.
Here's another reality: whatever method you utilize to get back on track will need to be the method you use to stay on track. An obesity physician once spoke wise words: "If you didn't like what you did in order to lose the weight, you won't like what you need to do to maintain the weight loss."
In other words, the habits you adopt while losing weight are some of the same ones you'll need to adhere to if you want to maintain the weight loss for life.

I was allowed the day after but was instructed to keep my back to the shower head for the first week. I think that was so that the Water didn't pressure wash the glue off.

I don't snack (for behavioral reasons, not because of any nutritional reason)
I eat 4 meals a day and make fruit part of 1 of those meals. Each meal is 3-4 ounces of Protein and then 1-2 ounces of veggies or fruit. For a max of 5 ounces each meal.
Fruit comes pre-packaged with Fiber, so doesn't trigger any cravings for me when eaten as part of a meal.

I definitely wouldn't want to induce diarrhea and the cramping that goes with it! OMG, I can't even imagine doing that on purpose! (Having recently had a couple days of it after surgery)
Like Apple1's suggestion, maybe lowering your carbs or trying some different exercise. Changing up your exercise every so often can be good. When I was fit(ish) in the past, I used to love Zumba and lost a lot of weight at first. When I couldn't get past my stall, someone recommended some weight training to build more muscle because it burns calories faster. I joined some folks doing crossfit and started losing again.

My doctor/nut plan for the first 2 months was 3 oz Protein + 1 oz vegetable. In month 3 i was allowed to add fruit. I was definitely in Keto back then - I can tell by the gross bad breath!! It was in month 4 or 5 that I ate bread and Pasta at a party and bam, I spent the next 3 days fighting head hunger.
You have an open mind about exploring and inquiring so I know you'll do great and find what works best for you.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Counseling can be a great tool for a lot of people and at during different times in your life. But I have never felt that MY food issues could be helped with counseling. I've been prone to overeating since early childhood and believe it is the dopamine high that I'm addicted to. Watch little kids, some just enjoy eating more than others.
I do believe that cognitive behavior therapy can help us to learn new behaviors and overcome food addiction. check out the Beck diet solution. I've been loosely following some of her advice to keep my head straight.

    Hi Violet,
Bravo to you for having the courage to take this step. I'm only 8 weeks out (gastric sleeve) but so far it feels like the best decision I ever made.
The period from when you are prepping for surgery through your weight loss phase is a great time for self reflection. Being open and honest with ourselves (but not critical) about our behaviors is the key to changing them. If Mom and Sis are saying these things with love, then perhaps there is a kernel of truth to parts of it. That doesn't mean they are right about WLS, just that you may want to dig through what they are saying and pick out the parts that you can work on to make your journey successful.
Best of luck, and we are all here for you.

There's been a lot of great responses already about doing what is right for you and your body...ditto that.
I am definitely not trying to talk you into anything or make any type of point, I just wanted to share the benefit I get out of low carb in case you were wondering why anyone in their right mind would give up bread!
I'm not in ketosis because I eat fruit and Beans, but I avoid grains, sugar and potatoes. When I eat like this, I do not have any cravings and am not tempted by anything and its smooth sailing. But, boy oh boy, one piece of bread, and that dopamine high triggers all kinds of cravings for a few days and I want to eat everything in sight. I can still lose while eating carbs, it is just so hard to stay on track. Since I can lose, I guess I am not carb-sensitive as I've heard others describe - I'm just a junkie!
I'm quite jealous of you. I wish I could lose while eating carbs. enjoy

I'm only 8 months out and I can already see how it can happen if you aren't committed to your plan. The sleeve restricts how much you can eat at one sitting, but there is nothing stopping you from having 10 sittings in one day, or having all of your meals be ice cream.
Its really important to use the first few months post-op to change your relationship with food and make new habits that you can fall back on down the road.
    Good luck on June 6th!

Michelle, you bring up a valid point. In the rat studies, the rats that get the surgery go back on a regular diet after the healing period and they lose weight.
But, I think our problem is we don't really know what an ideal human diet looks like.... and the very real possibility that what is ideal for one person isn't ideal for another.
I like the idea of the caveman diet.. and though it isn't certain how much Protein was available, we can be sure things like grains and sugar were in limited supply. And refined versions were unheard of.
