2ndSpring got a reaction from Coachthex32 in Going out to eat tonight! Any ideas so I don't look foolish?
My new favorite part about eating out is taking home the leftovers and not having to cook for the next 2-3 meals.
Order whatever Protein looks yummy (and soft), eat your 3 bites and then take home the rest!! Since you are going to the movies afterwards, bring a small cooler with you for the car.
The server will probably be concerned that you didn't like the meal, just reassure them that the meal was delicious and you are not that hungry tonight and they'll be happy.

    @@Treadmillwalker, what timing!!
I just watched a youtube video this morning about reduced calories leading to increased longevity. As part of the video, they explored intermittent fasting and reduction of meal frequency. They also talked about the trap of maintaining blood glucose levels through frequent meals.
They published a quote (I didn't catch who said it) "We live on 1/4 of the food we eat and our doctors live on the other 3/4"
    Very interesting topic.

2ndSpring got a reaction from dvmp61 in How much did you lose the first week?
I totally agree with this. The scale measures everything, not just fat. Your body is making adjustments, you are rebalancing your Fluid retention after the 2 week pre-op, and everything is inflamed. I lost a lot in the 2 week pre-op and then nothing in the 2 weeks after surgery. By the 3rd or 4th week, weight loss became more steady.
You are losing fat, even if the scale says otherwise.

2ndSpring got a reaction from dvmp61 in STUPID question.. abt measuring/weighing
its a good question!!! We use the word ounce to talk about both weight and volume, so it is very confusing. A food can weigh 4 ounces or it can take up 4 Fluid ounces in volume. A half cup is 4 Fluid ounces in volume, but may weigh more or less than 4 ounces depending on how fluffy or dense the food is. So....totally confusing.
i've been going by weight because I find it easiest. I use an an old weight watchers food scale. I put the plate on the scale and zero it out. then I put the Protein on the plate and stop when it hits 3 ounces. then i add another ounce of vegetables to get to 4 ounces total.

Not to worry - this is very common. The liquid diet you were on pre-op did a great job of depleting your glycogen stores and now your body has to rebalance, especially its Fluid retention.
For these first few weeks, just focus on staying hydrated and get your shakes in when able, and don't worry about what the scale says. You are losing weight, its just being offset on the scale by Water retention and inflammation from the surgery.

Regardless of weight loss impact, reducing carbs diminishes my cravings. That is huge for me and so important as I struggle to create new behaviors.
I'm still in weight loss phase. I am trying to walk that fine line between low carb and ketosis. I don't want to be in ketosis all the time. Right now, I'm getting carbs from vegetables, fruit and Beans. When I hit maintenance, I'll add starchy vegetables back in. I haven't decided on my stance on grains yet.
I've been feeling more energetic (and warm) since I added more fat into my diet.

2ndSpring got a reaction from tlewis2005 in Sugar
    Great question!
from a weight loss perspective, sugar wreaks havoc in your body. You eat it, then your blood sugar spikes and your body responds by pumping out insulin to get it out of your blood and move it into your liver for storage. As a result, your blood sugar dips down and your body responds to that by triggering cravings for more in an effort to stabilize. vicious cycle.
Also, I've found that now that I avoid added sugar and all grains (bread, Pasta, etc), that i don't have any cravings and find it easy to stay on track.

Happy Anniversary!! And thank you for staying and being honest about the struggles. I am 3 and 1/2 years out. I have maintained my 124# loss for 3 years. So I it is so different being in the maintance than the losing phase. Lets face it watching and feeling all those changes is really liberating!! Now we have all of the NSV's to keep us going. When you have been at goal, people stop talking about the weight loss so we all need to find something else to keep us going. For me it is coming here getting and giving support. Because if just one person is helped thru something that is holding them back then ALL IS GOOD with me. Again Thank you for your post.

if you want to see what the staples look like, there are some youtube videos of actual sleeve surgeries. very very cool.
it is amazing how they perform the sleeve and I was really surprised by the small size and large number of staples. I felt better after watching.
