Redmaxx got a reaction from Berry78 in First 5K walk completed
My wife and I completed our first official 5K walk on Sunday. We completed it in 56 minutes 38 seconds. I could have run it but my wife thinks she cant run so I walked it with her. It was fun and I am sure that we will do it again in the future.

Redmaxx reacted to DropWt4Life in Snacking....
I am not struggling with eating out of boredom YET, but I understand exactly what you are going through as I have done this my entire life. Planned Snacks are great, and the nuts or Jerky can fit into that plan. The key is having the mindset that the snack is fueling your body instead of just doing it because you are bored.
I smoked cigarettes for 10 years. When I quit 10 years ago, I realized that "triggers" as they call it, were real. I mentally and unconsciously had a cigarette whenever a trigger was present. That trigger might be getting in the truck to drive. It might be the end of a meal. The point is that if you are snacking when you are bored, you are continuing the bad habit that got you into trouble in the first place. I think this is a big problem for most of us. We have to use this time to change that if we are to continue being successful.
I work at a computer all day. I got my job to purchase a Veridesk for me, so that I can stand up and work. It does help. It takes me out of my comfort zone of sitting, and the cravings dissipate. I also burn more calories standing than sitting. Mind you, I don't do this all day. Just periodically. Maybe you can take a break and walk around the office for a minute or two whenever you get that craving.
You are doing really well, and I have no doubt that you will continue to be successful. Mindless snacking might just be the thing that hinders you from meeting or exceeding your goal weight as the weight loss will undoubtedly slow down in the coming weeks and months.
Anyway, good luck and thanks for bringing this up. This is a topic that is a real problem for most of us.

As long as you are being carful not to fall back into old eating habits and your staying on track, don`t over think it. If you are still headed in the right direction what ever you are doing is working for you. The trick comes when you get closer to your goal, that is where you really need to ratchet things up a bit. Make good habits now and it will pay off later.

Redmaxx reacted to BigViffer in I regret this surgery
Wow, you have only been on the forum since April and have shown yourself to be a real charmer. Has there been a thread that you have participated where you did not call someone a bully, cruel, or mention your profession? I do question the quality of someones education that is allegedly approaching a doctorate in psychology yet had to resort to surgery to correct a psychological problem.
Why didn't you interact with your colleagues in regards to your food addiction? I don't usually defend forum members, but Véronique is nothing but supportive in the threads I have read. However; you attacking her, or trying to make an example of her, so that no one dare question you is a jerk move.

Redmaxx got a reaction from copper in Weighing Food
Does anyone weigh and/or measure their food? I don't, I eat until I decide that it is probably enough, then stop. I have lost almost 91 pounds.

Redmaxx got a reaction from LauraAnn68 in Sleep Pants
I live in Michigan and even though it was a pretty easy winter for us I was still cold all winter. Both of my daughter's bought me smaller fleece sleep pants for Christmas (mediums which are a little big on me now) and I wear them every night. Now that the weather has been getting warmer my wife asked me if I had any sleep pants that were not fleece. I said sure I do but the fleece ones keep me warm. So last night I decided to dig out the non fleece sleep pants and wear a pair to bed. The first pair I took out were X-Large and putting them on made me feel like MC Hammer. All the others were X-Large or large and are way too big on me. I guess I need to go to the store and buy some new sleep pants (size small) for me to wear this summer. It is so funny that I keep finding clothes that are way too big for me now even after I thought I went through all my old clothes and donated them to charity.
I may keep a pair of the X-Large to remind me of where I was. Not sure if I will or not.

Redmaxx got a reaction from getfit4life2017 in No support
My surgeon's office has a support group for WLS patients that meets the 4th Tuesday of the month. See if your surgeon's office has one and if you and your mother can attend the meetings. I wish I would have gone before my WLS but I didn't know about it. My first support group was 5 days post op and I haven't missed one in the almost 9 months since my surgery.
Ignorance and fear make people do and say things that they shouldn't. After my dad found out I had the surgery the first thing he said was, "I didn't think you were that big." Now, just last week, he asked me if I was done losing weight. I told him yes. He then said, "Well, you will just put that weight back on again." My dad is almost 82 and thinks that everything he reads on the internet is true.
Good luck with your mom. We are all here to help and support you the best we can.

Redmaxx got a reaction from MzKingKing VA in 6 Month Checkup
I went to see my surgeon yesterday for my 6 month check up. I have 1.4 pounds to lose to meet his weight loss goal. My official 6 months post op will be 20 April 2017. My surgeon and NUT are extremely happy with my progress and said that I have a greater chance of keeping the weight off due to my early success. I am so happy. I think that I should be at his weight loss goal before next Thursday. This was the best decision that I could have ever made. Who would have thought that being a loser could feel so good.

Redmaxx got a reaction from mschan218 in Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) Post Op
So I was about 4 months post op for the RNY and I ended up in the emergency room for Acute Urinary Retention, Male and Fecal Impaction. I hadn't had a bowel movement in 7 days and I was unable to pass urine for about 24 hours. Two enemas and a Foley later I was urine free and able to have a bowl movement. I went to my primary at the VA hospital because I ended up with a UTI and had a bladder scan. Seems I was not emptying my bladder when I urinated. They put me on medication for BPH. I am not sure if it is helping with the bladder emptying but it has helped with the bowl movements. Now I am sure that the VA is going to schedule me for testing to check out my prostrate. It sucks getting older.

Redmaxx got a reaction from erisp in What are you substituting for the comfort that food brings?
I have replace emotional eating with emotional walking. Whenever I start getting stressed out and look for something to eat I stop and go for a walk. The length of the walk depends on the length of the urge to eat. I am almost 7 months post op RNY and so far it has worked.

Redmaxx got a reaction from Stella S in Marched with State Honor Guard
I rejoined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Michigan State Honor Guard last month. Well yesterday (4 July 2017) was our first official event. It was a 2 mile (give or take) parade. When I was on the State Honor Guard 2 years ago I thought I was going to die by the time we reached the end of the parade. Yesterday, I was like huh, when is this parade going to start. I carried the Department flag and had zero issues. What a difference losing 100 pounds makes. Also, 2 years ago the uniform I was issued had become a little too small for me (I couldn't button the pants (thank goodness there is a wide white belt that covered it up) and I had to buy a larger uniform) but now I have the smallest shirt and pants that I can find and I feel so much more comfortable. I love the new me.

Redmaxx got a reaction from ThickGirl5683 in **RANT** WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY??? UUGGGHHH
I hate to say it but I am to the point where I just want everyone to leave me alone. I know what I need to do, I know how I want to look and I know (with my surgeons help) what is best for me. I appreciate that people are concerned, curious or whatever, but the comments get real old real quick. I think what really did me in was when one person said, Its not AIDS is it? I thought we all learned in Kindergarten to keep our hands and feet to our selves and if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.

Oh my gosh yes! It is so frustrating. I have a lot more to go too, and I'm already "getting too skinny" for people. I'm only 3 1/2 months out. I also get told I'm not eating enough, and it's so unhealthy. Why can't people just mind their own business sometimes. haha

They always have something to say. One of the ones that I hear all the time is "eat a cheeseburger why don't you?" I also get tired of people asking me for "diet" help for them.

Redmaxx reacted to ThickGirl5683 in **RANT** WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY??? UUGGGHHH
I'm sooooo tired of hearing people say "don't lose anymore weight" or "your getting waaay to small etc etc..... Gessssh, when you're fat they have something to say, when you lose weight they have something to say. Why can't people just compliment you or keep their mouths shut.... All the EXTRA is NOT needed. If you think I look good GREAT, if you don't think I look good just keep it to yourself.....I don't want to hear my face is tooo thin or STOP LOSING WEIGHT.... Just let me be GREAT!
This lifestyle change is hard enough without people ATTEMPTING to make me feel self conscious.

Redmaxx reacted to Stella S in VA Sleep Center Doctor
YFile a complaint with the licensing board for the healthcare professional that performed the study carbon copy your VA doctor the patient advocate at the VA as well as the clinic that perform the sleep study. Failure to provide test results falls under neglect
in the last couple years the VA has gotten such bad press it seems the care should have increased.
My experience with my husband has been positive at the VA but that doesn't seem to mean they can give him a diagnosis ora cure. Neither can public private educational institutions
