No weight-loss
Also, take your measurements. Do that weekly and see the changes. I didn't lose one pound for over a month, but I lost so many inches it was crazy.

Freezing....all the time!
You know what happens when you are all nice and toasty in bed and then throw all those layers of blankets off and start to shiver? That's what we are doing with our weight loss. It will take a while for your body to adjust again and find it's proper internal heating settings. lol! Could take a year. I'm freezing all the time as well. I now dress in outrageous # of layers ( undershirt, long underwear top and bottom, sweater, jeans AND jacket. And I live in CA. lol!!!! Oh, and I have a heating blanket on my bed cranked up to (insert accent) eleven! (spinal tap joke, only have it turned up to 5.)

10 weeks post open & trying different foods
LittleLizzieLilliput replied to my new beginning 2016's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&AI didn't do well when I cut out all carbs. not only physically was it difficult, but emotionally as well. My doc and nutritionist said I absolutely SHOULD have carbs, but make them complex not simple. Potato good, bread bad. lol!

No weight-loss
Yup, your body is dealing with something major. It's not uncommon at all to not lose right away. We have fluids from the IV's, gases, bloating, body dealing with the shock of surgery. Don't fret, you are doing everything right and the lbs will start falling off.

Regrets after surgery?
Are you taking anything to control your stomach acid? I thought I had hunger every 2 hours but instead was bad acid. I'm on an inhibitor now and have to be reminded to eat.

1st actual meal 23 days POSt Op
I just wanted to say I love this kind, understanding and helpful post. This is what being a Bariatric PAL is about. Not mocking people or trying to make them feel horrible for an uninformed choice. If you read this posters profile she doesn't' have medical insurance and paid out of pocket. She isn't in a program and doesn't have the information we do. This was our chance to help her and instead she's been run off by people just being mean because they are stunned by what she posted. It makes me sad. Seeing posts like yours makes me feel a bit better about our fellow travelers of this weird, life changing journey.

Soft foods
Mashed potatoes with Protein powder mixed in is probably your best bet. It's easy on the system and with the Protein Powder you are getting your nutrition. Use non-flavored or chicken Soup flavored. Expect to not be able to eat much. the road to solid food is not easy, do your best, it will end.

Doing good.
That's FABULOUS!

Any Post Op MARIJUANA Users?
I actually still smoke. I didn't really plan to stop until like a week before surgery. Why do they make you stop smoking ? nice to meet you too I smoked up till the day before surgery with no issues. I did tell my anesthesiologist though, he didn't care. lol! I started up again after 2 weeks. Things to be careful of, coughing causing pain in the surgery area (If you have a hernia repair, this will be worse. I did. lol), smoking can cause worse acid reflux. but as long as you are on acid meds and wait to smoke till after 2 weeks of healing, you should be fine.

Any Post Op MARIJUANA Users?
Fellow Chronic Chic right here yo! lol! I use it everyday. No adverse effects. Do I still get the munchies?? every now and then, guess what? I eat some chicken. lol! I'm losing weight, losing a ton of inches and have not had any problems. I started smoking it again at about 3 weeks and I was able to ingest it after my 3 month healing mark. That was a personal choice not a directive from anyone. It helped with pain, nausea and depression my first 6 weeks after my 2 week hiatus. Didn't have any interest in it before then either. I love it, if you have any questions feel free to ask! Also, I haven't found any negative reactions when I've posted about it. but this thread is long and I haven't had a chance to read all the replies yet. lol!

You know what, It's not what I would have but don't let anyone get you down or feel beat up. Look, this is a hard process. We don't know what kind of information you have or what kind of support you have. You focus on eating the Protein on that plate and understand it's not the healthiest. But you could barely eat any of it and your stomach won't blow up. The only real danger is setting high caloric habits now that will counteract the positive benefits of your surgery. But the food looked great and I'm sure it tasted great too! I hope you aren't feeling too down, I'm sure you got what feels like some nasty responses but try to focus on the good information - I see some good tips in the thread, and ignore any judgements as they don't help you get to where you need to be.

Leg numbness
Don't freak out too much, it's probably a phase. Sometimes weird things happen, ya know? Keep your surgeon up to date, you've had the ultra sounds so that's fantastic. Just try to focus on other stuff, great you are walking so much!! Yay!

Regrets after surgery?
I'm gonna tell you something, and it's not totally popular but it's true. For some of us there is a lot of regret post surgery. And that's OK!! Here's the thing, it goes away for 99.9% of us. We just did something MAJOR and permanent to not just our body but to our life and to our mind and our emotions. I regretted the surgery for a good 4 weeks post surgery. It started slow and then built to this huge wave. I started crying and didn't stop for a week. I'm not kidding. But then it goes. We come to accept where we are, our hormones settle down (post surgery our hormones are a mess, that adds to our emotional state), our emotional cup starts to empty a bit and we get less overwhelmed and less weepy (maybe that was just me. lol!). For me I started to just feel better physically and emotionally. As we progress to different stages that adds help as well. I can't promise that you will never regret the surgery, but I can promise you that as long as you are physically healing, losing weight and feeling good that your EMOTIONAL state will improve. I don't regret the surgery any longer, but ask me 4 weeks post surgery and I would have a totally different answer for you and would have dissolved into tears.

Yeast infection
Ive been told to go to the doctors each time you get an infection in the extra skin. If you are insured this will add data/proof to the Medical Need of having skin reduction surgery. Just an FYI. Keep that in mind. You could leverage this into helping you get that skin removed!

upset stomach
Hi there, a couple of things: Have you followed up with your surgeon? If so, what did they say? If not, that should be your very next call. Do you have a nutritionist you are working with? You may want to talk to them. If not, it's a good idea to log in all your food for at least a week. You want to log, what you eat, how you feel after and for how long. This can help determine if it's certain foods or all foods. Are you on an acid reducer? Does it happen regardless of eating?

Leg numbness
Generally legs going to sleep have to do with circulation being cut off. If I were you I would walk as much as I can, keep the blood flowing through your legs. It's often said that the calves are like a second heart. They pump the blood back up from the legs into the heart. The more you walk the better your circulation. It also helps with our weight loss so it's a win-win. The other thing that can cause it is nerve damage. Do you have diabetes? If so and your surgeon clears you of clot issues, check with your endocrine specialist. Could just be a fluke but keep your surgeon informed of your progress and keep moving.

Has anyone gone away on a vacation 3 months after surgery?
Of COURSE you should go!! Look, this is a lifelong change we've made. By that time you should be onto foods. You will basically be focusing on only Protein and Water. You will find plenty of that on the cruise. You know the rules, you know your routines, by that time you will be fully recovered and probably raring to get out there, walk faster, enjoy doing more things more easily, etc. GO! Enjoy!!! This surgery was so we can all get back to living a full, healthy, well rounded life. Going on the cruise is the exact reason you had this surgery. Live your life, grab it hard by the lapels and swing it around! Enjoy your retired life, follow your guidelines and by the time you are getting ready for your cruise you are gonna have to buy new outfits for the big trip!

Help!
I hope you are working with your surgeon and a nutritionist, they will help you with this a lot more. You might want to check and see if your constant hunger is really acid. Something like 80% of us get bad acid reflux for the first year or so. You should probably be on some sort of meds for that. Hunger that frequent post surgery doesn't seem normal.

I am so emotional!
I have this theory. I usually bring it out when people are dealing with loss, and this is a kind of loss so it makes sense. I believe we all have an emotional cup inside us. Most of the time that cup is only half full of our regular emotions. When something big happens our cup fills all the way up. I usually use this in relation to losing someone you love, but this surgery is losing someone one we loved...our old life and life style. Even if we are excited about it, this is a HUGE, permanent, scary, exciting, monumental change. So our emotional cup is full. Anything extra that gets added in just flows right over and out. Bamn! Having a hard time with a basic chore, frustrated? Suddenly tears spring to eyes and we can't even deal with minor frustrations. Someone says something insensitive and rude? Anger springs along with hurt, we don't understand why we are so sensitive! But we are sensitive because our internal Emotional Cup is full and it has no more room so everything we feel is right there at the top. Once you are more recovered and used to this new life your cup will slowly go back to normal and so will your emotional state. That's my theory anyway.

My surgery was yesterday... so much pain!
walk, walk, walk. That and Gas-x strips, that's what gets the gases out.

So like, did you loose the good fat? lol ;)
I still got my ass! lol! I was blessed with some good T&A. I'm 42, I was sure my ass would looks like a flabby pancake but instead it just keeps getting higher and higher, sticking out more smoothly and round. (I feel so weird talking about this) If you have always had a nice ass, even extremely overweight, there is a chance you could keep it. So far so good. Despite what my info on the left states, I started this journey 4 years ago at 360 lbs. I'm now down to 218 and my ass is still round and bouncy. lol!

Low sugar drinks
We have this weird thing in our family where we don't like many drinks. My dad only liked coffee, scotch and Water. In that order. My niece only drinks milk, water and coffee, she's 15. I only drank water, milk and diet coke. I am so thankful I love water as much as I do. flavored water or teas or coffee I don't like. I tried crystal lite but it burns my stomach. Gives me the worst indigestion.

For the Lady Sleevers (Bras)
I've just been buying cheap undies and bras at kmart. I'm not spending cash on the good stuff till I'm settled. For now it's cheap support, otherwise I'm swinging around like one of those Newton's Cradle toys.
