Squirmals got a reaction from OutsideMatchInside in Weight loss at 4 Months
My Dr was disappointed. I lost 30.1% but they expected 40% in 3 months. When I got home it really bothered me and I realized my appointment was at 2 1/2 months so I sent them a message reminding them of the fact. I am down 53 lbs at 3 1/2 months, which is greater than 50% at this point. I have a feeling it doesn't matter to the Dr. Its all about their statistics, their numbers. They don't really care what we've lost or what's going on with us as long as it looks good for them. I mentioned my heart rate was 40-50s and BP was 70 & 80s. They said as long as I was getting my fluids I will be fine. Grrr

No they weren't. She, the nurse, told me if I'm getting my fluids. She said to follow up with my GP. I am a nurse, i was a bit concerned but was thinking clearly ( a bit foggy) and peeing ok so thought I would watch it. I was weak, lost it trying to fold a sheet. But Drs worry about poor turn out with there surgery. If I see my GP, they aren't associated with issues with the surgery.

I'm 4 months post-op and have been on this forum from the beginning. I've found it helpful to know there is more than one way to do everything. I think the one point that seems to be clear is that everyone has their own, individual journey.........we each need to find our way.......find what works work us. I have found everyone to be respectful, polite and friendly. I learn something from every person who chooses to post information about their journey.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season.......however you choose to Celebrate

I am shocked at people getting attacked for going against the grain here. If you are 600lbs, then obviously you have a serious problem and need tons of rules and guidelines to break your very serious issue. No carbs, no falling off the wagon, plenty of exercerise, listening to Nutritionists..all that good stuff, by the book you must follow to get to a normal weight. It's like telling an alcoholic that they shouldn't drink again, sound advice.
Then there are people like me, and possibly bugle girl. I wasn't 600lbs. I was sick of dieting, really really sick of trying my whole life to lose 50-60 lbs. up and down roller coaster. I went into it not following any of the rules, and I got exactly what I wanted out of it. I could still socially eat, enjoy food, but have a little less of everything. I ate everything I did before, but way way way less. Only issues I've had were gallbladder and feeling weak. My weight loss was achieved. I never once felt deprived, and I feel I can carry about a normal life. Co-worker brings in cupcakes?- yes thankyou I will have one. I get a pizza and eat for a week, instead of a day.
So can we at least agree that it is not a one-size fits all solution to this? And for hecks sake, stop attacking everyone on here that doesn't have the same approach and diet plan you would give to someone morbidly obese. I am not an alcoholic, never was, I can drink a beer and not fall apart, same thing with food.

Giving some advice. Take gas x strips although I didn't need them. I found that laying on my side probably helped that I didn't have the gas. Even being home. The gas was laying on my back and felt the gas. I rolled on my side

I'm on the losers bench. I went in the OR yesterday day around 5pm. I protested twice about going about going to the bathroom. Around 10pm I walked to the bathroom. Toradol and the pca pump are my friends. I'm thankful that I didn't have that bad gas. I think I had it a little bit last night. I'm so fidgety that it went away. My day has consisted of walking to the bathroom, walking a little hitting the pca pump and sleeping. I'm tolerating Water well. They may let me go home today. Oh geez hit the button and now I'm getting sleepy.

Well it's day 4. The pain is starting to subside but this is the first day that I struggled with getting my liquid and Protein intake in. I don't trust my scale it says I am down 8 lbs already. Each day is a new challenges just keep pushing through. I know I can't lift more than 10 lbs but I am eager to start on these arns... that's going to be my key target area to put on muscle so my skin won't sag miserably.

December 13 is growing closer. Went to my pre op appts yesterday to get my ducks in a row. My Dr stated the full liquid diet is just to start my reprogramming so it's not a big shock after surgery. I start the diet next Tuesday. I did liquids the last two days to get my toes wet. Getting excited.

Squirmals reacted to kimini in Age, menopausal and under active thyroid
@@ovaw8ovathinka, I have a similar story. I am also menopausal and have an underactive thyroid. I went to a functional nutritionist for 2 1/2 years, only to lose 20 lbs, 17 of which were in the initial 3 week detox. I went through tests and labwork to determine that I was suffering from adrenal exhaustion and had intolerances to all grain and cow dairy. For 2 1/2 years I stayed on the plan (no grain, no dairy, mostly paleo) and lost another 3 lbs, for a total of 20 lbs. lost. One day, I stepped on the scale and I was 199. I was so happy! I never saw that number again. In fact, my weight steadily went up until I gained back every ounce of my weight plus 10 more pounds. I was extremely frustrated! My brother had undergone duodenal switch 6 years prior and my cousin (who was my age and had gone through most of the same as I had, including the nutritionist, intolerances and resulting diet) had recently decided to have WLS. I was seeing, and they were telling me, that it was the best decision they ever made. Based on the statistics and their success I finally made the choice to do the same. I was so afraid that I wouldn't see any weight loss, or that it would be so little that it would not be worth it. But I am here to tell you that I am losing weight, despite being menopausal, despite the thyroid condition, and despite my fears.
I have seen posts from many people on here whose surgeons have told them they won't lose as much weight as they anticipate, based on the averages. Yet they have, and sometimes much more. Remember that what they are telling you is based on averages. The reason you can't rely on the averages is that for every person who follows the plan and loses a significant amount of weight, there is another person who continues to eat the wrong foods and doesn't lose at all. The best thing to do is to leave the surgery up to your surgeon, and YOU take responsibility for the results! We all start out so beaten down by our many failed efforts, and our confidence is very low, but you've got this! Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't.

My apologies for such a long post!
