kovab72 got a reaction from Rainbow_Warrior in Converting to bypass from sleeve
Hi I had gastric bypass from sleeve about a year and a half ago. I have had no problems with it. I do still have some acid reflux but that is my fault if I eat too late. I would do it over again. I have had nothing but success with it. As far as after surgery, I felt like since I had gastric sleeve this was nothing different. As a matter of fact to me it was an easier recovery.

Great topic. I'm an oldie lap band. 10 years post wls. Some of us are still around
It is still work I am here to tell you. But life is way easier with a 90 lb loss.
If I'm unmindful.... I can inch up the scale. Then like Kathy said.....It is back to Water and walking and light eating.
I am still so thankful for my tool, But I am arguing with 10 lbs right now. Oh well. Life is still good!!

kovab72 reacted to clk in Vets- if you regained did shakes help at all??
I lost baby weight and 8 pounds regain between 3.5-4.5 years out by going back to basics. I jump started with a strict plan but only to make cravings go away and to stop myself from the tiny bit of grazing I'd slipped into. Eating by the hierarchy - Protein, then veg, carbs as you've got room and enough to feel satiety and stave off binges - will serve you far better than a liquid diet. They're preposterous at our point. I drink shakes only when I have to skip a meal or boost my protein.

Loss came far slower to me at that point, I won't lie, but man was I a slow loser the first time. But I lost it all, more than I'd intended, actually, going well under goal. I've kept it off for years.

You know the drill. Push the foods that fill you. Find what your caloric intake is at now so you can set a deficit.

Good luck. It can definitely be done. Don't torture yourself on a liquid diet uneccessarily.

    Good to "see" you@cowgirljane

I think that's very important to remember/realize. Just because we struggle with a few (or 10 or 20) "vanity" pounds as I like to call them, doesn't mean we have lost. The health benefits of keeping off 125lbs far outweigh my stress Over the 10 I regained. It's a NORMAL thing for even those who have never been obese (like my hubby who wore size 30-32 jeans until he was 50 and now is upset that he's a 34).

Post menopausal women especially gain an average of a pound a year. Metabolism slows and we all struggle. I feel this surgery has made the whole thing manageable, unlike before.

I totally get where you are coming from. It is hard to not get bored with this! I've been there, done that.
I have to say, I am SO impressed with the amount of weight you have lost and how far you have come. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but this is one reason why I am so glad I had my sleeve surgery when I was at a lower bmi. You can absolutely lose the rest of the weight AND you should keep up the fight to do so!! But realistically, it will be much harder for you to get to a normal bmi than it is for me to maintain a normal bmi, even if you are working much harder at it and I am lazy about it. It's not fair, but it seems to be true more often than not.
This is one reason why I think people should be intervening and having this surgery much sooner than they are. Again, I still say keep doing what you are doing, you got this!

Absolutely will feel hungry.. with just two or three bites you won't be able to eat any more because your going to feel pressure in the chest. As for feeling satisfied.. I personally don't feel satisfied, but your new stomach won't allow you to eat more then will fit in your stomach. What I can tell you honestly is that post surgery your cravings will be there.. you still feel hungry. I am post surgery 4 months now and it is at this point that I am starting to eat a bit more of regular food, still no more then 4 ounces. Can't tolerate water... salad.. nothing that is to dry. Foods need to be moist.. Good luck be absolutely sure because once this is done you can't undo it..

The only awkward thing about eating on dates is, guys don't know why I'm full after 2-3 bites. They assume I'm trying to not look like a pig and they encourage me to eat.

What they don't realize is that I probably should've stopped after the first bite and now I'm hoping I don't start burping for the rest of the night.

First of all you look amazing. I had the sleeve done in 2012 and 11 months later I got pregnant and pretty much ruined my sleeve. So I just had a revision to the gastric bypass. Just be careful with your sleeve. From someone who knows all to well, you can stretch it back out. Once you start to feel full, so eating. Research why we don't eat the things they tell us not too easy, that's one thing that hurt me. I was unaware that diet soda would stretch my stomach. It's the little things, so make sure you understand why you don't eat certain foods. Learn what your trigger food are, foods that trigger your sweet tooth and avoid them. How I've helped a little.
