    Disappointed Surgeon

agree with Jamie, Check out Dr. Matthew Weiner's videos. He says there is no way to predict how fast or how much someone will lose because so much is dependent on factors outside your control. he has had super compliant patients who lose slowly and ones who aren't compliant at all lose fast. You aren't slow. You are losing at the same rate as me (faster actually), RNY and my dr's office thinks I'm fast and I'm super compliant, exercise and the whole 9 yards. I use patch vitamins by the way. you should try them.

    Advice

OMG we have the same mother!
  4. My advice is to get back on the wagon by starting with the basics. Meal planning measuring and tracking. I measure and weigh everything! I portion things out and only eat my portion. When eating out do the same. order a to go box when you arrive and portion out your food and put the rest away...do not eat from a common plate (share appetizers) those things encourage you to over eat. As a revision patient I know my pouch is double the size of a normal bypass pouch. so I'll always be able to eat more than other bypass patients. This is why I portion and measure. My meals generally consist of around one cup of food. 3oz of meat and 1/2 cup of vegetables. I make amazing Snacks using my premier Protein chia seeds and a couple of tbs of pudding mix. anyone can eat around any surgery...people eat around the band by eating sliders. Food addicts will find a way if you let it. Also, pay attention to your cravings...mine always happen around my period...so I can tell myself this week...there is an explanation for it, I don't give into it all the way (will have fruit chips instead of chocolate). but it helps me recognize this starving feeling is just going to last for a week and not the rest of my life and there is a reason. it helps me keep control and not feel victimized by it. You can do this! don't make yourself a victim and take control. I can recommend a good facebook group called "recipes for weight loss success". I follow the plan and it is working for me. lots of recipes on there to try to change things up and keep things interesting. you can add me on myfitnesspal as well. I'm travelher on there as well. Join the New Years weight loss challenge to set goals and help stay accountable.
  5. Don't see what age has to do with it. if you need a revision get a revision. I'm only 49 but never would have considered my age as a factor. so thrilled to be rid of that miserable piece of junk that was permanently damaging my body. there are tons of people in their 60's and older who have had bariatric surgery. so I think you are probably fine. if you do a search of forums in here you will find them. good luck with your revision.

    Need advice asap!

I've been having this same issue and other people haven't been noticing either. My clothes don't really fit that differently and I've been asked, "Have you gotten your surgery yet?" too many times. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App Way too early to be worrying about this. It will happen. It takes time. Take pictures and measurements. It took 20-30 to start seeing it in pictures. I'm down almost 70 and it is just I. The last few weeks people are really noticing and starting to comment.
  9. Average calorie intake per day? You say 70-85g carb but how much for protein and fat? Many thanks x I get between 850-950 calories/day. Today was balanced 30/30/40 ish so it was 77grams carb, 32grams fat 88 grams protein. If you use a macro plan it doesn't really matter what your calories are. It works at 600 calories and 1200 calories. Because it is percentage based. Just have to set your macro goals in my fitnesspal and do your meal planning from there. Today my fiber was 25 grams. So net carbs were 52. Am travelher on myfitnesspal if you want to look at my diaries.
  10. I started low carb, but found that I was having memory issues etc. My dietician told me i needed to go to 100 grams of carbs (Higher than I wanted). I compromised by going to a balanced macro plan. I eat 30-35% carb (complex only). 25-30% fat and 40% Protein. I plan all my meals around these numbers. I was worried that I'd stall or slow by upping my carbs but was suprised to find that my weight loss actually sped up. My main sources for carbs are berries, oats (1/4cup/day),chia seeds, and of course vegetables, so my diet is quite high in Fiber. The above plan gets me to 70-85 grams of carbs a day which ends up being net carbs around 50 grams. Carbs used to be my weakness, but since I am avoiding simple carbs and all processed food it is a non-issue for me and don't really struggle too much with cravings. (with the exception of popcorn...that will always be my weakness) This works for me because it is something I can maintain in the long term.

    So much protein

Caramel flavour premier with overnight oats is amazeballs too.

    So much protein

I can't stand bars. I do a chia seed pudding with chocolate premier Protein. It is 3tbs chia seeds one chocolate Premier Protein and 2 tablespoons of low fat sugar free pudding mix . Combine, stir and refrigerate. It makes 2 servings and each has 21 grams of protein...so if you had 2 - day you are getting 42 grams in. It can be made without the pudding mix because the chia seeds firm up and a vegan Protein powder and almond milk could work.

    So I Did It!

Welcome to the club!!! I love my rny too. One thing to watch out for is acid. I had hunger pains for the first 2 weeks (also had reflux so I went on Prevacid). Sure enough the hunger pangs were gone...it was the stomach acid making me hungry.

Did you take pictures? I do pictures once a month. I didn't notice until I put my before picture next to my more recent ones. Also take your measurements. I do arm, chest, waist hips, thigh.

    Early stall

You need to chill and wait it out.
  17. Definitely aged me too, but I'm nearly 50...I lost a bunch of weight after lapband surgery in my late 30s and it didn't age me. Now that I've had bypass at 49, the fat hid all the wrinkles...and boom here they are. But I'm still told I look young for my age so, I'll deal.

    Please help!

    Carb binge?
  20. 9 lbs a month is good. 1lb in two weeks is nothing to panic about if you eventually get a drop. I revised to rny and I was told it would be slower that newly wls folks. I'm losing faster than expected and they were shocked. My current rate is about 9lbs a month and I expect that to really slow very soon. I think your dr may need to come on here and read the thousands of posts about the week 3 stall. That he told you to start jogging is absurd. Please check out dr. Matthew weiner on YouTube if you are looking for reasonable post op diet and exercise recommendations. He also talks about why people lose at different rates etc.

    Epic Failure!

For starters 70lbs in 4 months is awesome. Especially if you have not been following your plan. I'm on track to be close to 70 lbs down at 4 months and have been religiously following my plan. Having said that if you want to continue to lose and more importantly keep it off you are right, you need to make changes and it isn't too late. You can do this! We are here for you.

    So. very. SLOW.

Everyone is doing fine. It really doesn't matter how fast you lose as long as you are losing. Your rate of weight loss has absolutely nothing to do with whether you will hit goal or not and you seem to be in the normal range. It really annoys me that doctors sell the best case scenario to folks and set them up for disappointment. Here is an example of a longer term sleevers weight loss that was posted before I hope this put things into perspective. Please readjust expectations and focus on what you are accomplishing and not what you haven't. The fast losers are a small percentage as are the ones who exceed goal. It is far from the norm.

Where is your fat hanging on tight?

Wouldn't worry about crunches n sit-ups etc they do absolutely nothing for the fat on ya guts. Diet is the only thing that can get rid of that. Takes tie for the guts fat to go... so bloody frustrating hey lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Agree. Drives me nuts to see ads saying get rid of fat in place x by doing this exercise...core strengthening is still a great thing to do for other reasons though.

    Why did you choose bypass?

Also bypass for all of the reasons above. Mine was a revision from a lap band.
