I am having my surgery in Mexico next week with Dr. Illan through Bariatric Pal. The only person that I felt I needed to "win over" to this decision was my husband, so he joined me in a call with BP and was able to address all his concerns. Dr. Illan will also do Skype or FaceTime consultations. There is a Facebook group where you can hear everyone's stories and everyone raves about the care they received. I (and my husband) couldn't be more comfortable with this decision! As an adult, your family and friends should support your decision, but if there are any opinions that are particularly meaningful, it may help to expose them to the reality instead of the sensationalized horror stories. Good luck!!

I agree with @OutsideMatchInside. If you're an adult then what does it matter what they think? Do what you need to do for your health.

As hard as it is to accept when it's happening to you, it is normal. It sounds like you're doing everything right, so you'll just need to be patient and allow your body the time it needs to adjust.
Stay away from the scale for awhile. There are things happening in your body that have nothing to do with the numbers right now.
    Hang in there!

@@katkathryn Stalls are very normal - although very frustrating. Change it up a bit - add more Protein, change your exercise routine, add some healthy fats - something might kick you out of the stall. If you are exercising a lot - you may need to increase your Water and Protein. Hang in there!!! You can do this!!!

Many people say they feel hungry for the first few weeks or days after the surgery. You are on a liquid diet for one thing, many people feel MUCH better after they start real food, even soft foods add to the full feeling.
Also, sometimes other things like gas and thirst can seem like hunger. You have to figure out what works for you.
There is also a thing called "head hunger" where you want to eat because you want to eat. Lots of things to work through, the surgery isn't just a magic cure.

Are you truly hungry? Analyze it, think about it. If you had a sleeve, the part of your stomach where the hunger hormone is manufactured is removed. You shouldn't feel hunger for maybe 6 months. I had what I called "Head hunger" I WANTED to eat but when I thought about it I really didn't feel a hunger pain ...I just wanted to eat. It helped me when I cooked some green Beans of the canned variety and put some garlic powder and a bit of salt and pepper and then pureed them in my blender. I could only eat about 2 tablespoons but it felt like I was eating something wonderful. I also made pureed deviled eggs and oh golly they were good. Some times its just good to feel something hot or warm in your mouth like you did before.

Be sure you are taking a PPI - stomach acid can often mimic hunger pains. Try adding sf popsicles or Jello (if allowed), tea, etc. Hang in there! Eating at this early out could cause significant complications.

Well you have to follow a liquid diet after surgery. Did you do a liquid diet pre-op?
Are you taking something for acid? A PPI like Prilosec?
Are you physically or mentally hungry? Would you love to eat some broccoli? Or do you want to one specific thing?
You shouldn't be physically hungry. Mentally hungry, yeah, its hard with nothing to chew for days on end.

    Hi, All
So I'm 5 weeks post op and am struggling to get 1/4 C. of food in at meal time. I'm supposed to be at about 1/2 C. but feel full just shy of 1/4 c. Now I find that I am hungry a little over every 2 hours. This then leads to having difficulty getting all my Protein,60g , in everyday. I'm considering having 2 Protein shakes a day in addition to food. Thoughts or any experience with this

What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe

I am a 48 year old male, 6 feet tall, and now 198 lbs. I was overweight from 3rd grade on. My high weight was 455 pounds when I was 21. I dropped down to about 280 by my early 30s just from diet and exercise. I could never get much lower than that. I always rebounded up. At 307 I decided to get the sleeve. Now, a little over a year later I am finally below 200. First time since 5th grade!
I am just trying to stay below 200 and focus on weight training, and exercise in general.
Best decision ever. I only wish I could have done it about 15 years earlier. It was never covered by insurance until a couple years ago.

Congratulations you will not know yourself in a few months. I am from Brisbane. My starting weight was 110kg now 88kg. I found it difficult in the first few weeks keeping to liquids and soft foods. I missed chewing I think. One mistake I made when I went onto a normal diet was to try and eat steak! Easier to eat mince!
Also you might feel a little tired. I couldn't drink Water and still can't ( I used to drink it before the surgery) I now drink a litre of coconut Water per day plus herbal teas to keep hydrated. I still have issues with portion sizes. If I eat out I no longer order a main I order an entree size as my main. Can't fit it in! So I tend to eat a little off my family's plates like I am a child.. Anyway, you will be fine and in a few months the operation will be so far behind you. At 8 months post I am very happy with my energy levels. It's just the exercising now..good luck with your op

sweetpea38 reacted to Butch Luce in Last day of liquid diet, surgery tomorrow!
. Well 24 hours from now my surgery should be in progress. It's been a 1 1/2 year effort to get to this point mostly because of a coronary stent procedure a little over a year ago. Today is the last day of the liquid diet, only Clear liquids, --lookout chicken broth! After the first few days I fell into a routine which I described in a previous post. Basically, I stayed away from prepared food, my wife usually ate by herself, and my new best friends are Greek yogurt, Isopure and Premier Protein drinks, and broth. Watching football games yesterday, the double meat and cheese hamburger commercials were almost too much! Anyway, I've lost about 16 pounds and hope that's enough. Starting weight was 360 and today's weight is 344. You guys just beginning the journey hang in there. If I can do it without cheating you can too! I know the next few weeks will be rough too but it will be worth it if my last years on earth will not be the struggle it has in recent years (I will be 70 in December). I'll give a post surgery report when I can but in the meantime, say a little prayer for me and the others who will be sleeved tomorrow! God bless!

fresh out. the first couple for days were pretty hard i have to admit i cried because the pain was so strong. when i first started drinking liquids i was shocked about how easily they filled me up. yes i knew that would happen but knowing and experiencing are two very different things. as the days go by I'm drinking a pill every morning on an empty stomach to prevent ulcers and I'm chewing my Multivitamins everyday (Centrum vitamins) i am also drinking 3 Protein Shakes a day and everything is going pretty well. i hope i keep recovering easily and i hope that anyone else that is at the same point as i am has a speedy recovery as well
