  1. I can't for the life of me figure out how much Water to add. I thought it was drink as is....hell no am I doing that. But I can't even find a website about it. I bought it at my Dr's office, but I didn't try it until just now. Please....if you have used this and like this, share with me what to do! I had it in the hospital and liked it a lot.
  2. I am struggling something fierce and I seriously regret having surgery.
  3. I'm 6 days post op. Every night when I'm taking medicine, I get awful heart burn and just feel sick and discouraged. Does anyone else have issues with taking medicine? sent from my rotary phone surgery date: 11/2/2016
  4. Every. Single. Night. Severe heart burn. I have a good pain tolerance, but this is bringing me to tears every night. I'm afraid to drink anything. I'm afraid to take medicine. I tried taking it in the morning today, but I needed to take another pain pill tonight - heart burn. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I take 40mg of prilosec in the morning, and have been taking 20mg in the evening when this kicks in. I'm not tolerating drinking much. I'm lucky if I get 10oz of Water a day (and that's generous). I'm one week post-op. If you have had this issue or know how I might counteract it, or know if maybe something is wrong....please please help. I'm miserable and sick of crying in pain every night.
  5. My anion gap was high. My dr called me Friday to let me know she's not concerned and felt my numbers were all within a safe range, and encourged me to push as much fluids in me as I can to avoid hospitalization. So I've been working on that. I still feel very weak and tired, but I'm trying to get more Protein and calories in as well and that should help quite a bit. I was very scared for a little bit that something very serious was wrong. However, I've been able to double my intake of fluids so that at least makes me feel better mentally.
  6. I know that webmd is a dangerous place for me. I'll just preface this post with that. I went to my post op appointment and the dr was concerned that I wasn't getting enough Water or Protein, so she did some blood tests. Her office called while I was sleeping and when I woke up they were closed. My blood tests were just published on the medical portal. I took a look and then went to WebMD to see what the two things that were pretty far off meant. And it all talks about metabolic acidosis. So now i'm feeling a little freaked out. Just hoping that someone may have some knowledge in this area. Thanks
  7. My first blog post. I am 10 days post op and still finding this whole thing bizarre and difficult. The one thing I miss the most nearly every moment of the day is not having to be careful how much water I drink at a time. If you gave me a 20oz bottle of water before surgery, it would be gone within 3 minutes. Seriously. I gulped water like it was my job. I love water. This sip by sip stuff sucks! It's not at all satisfying to me and I just want to drink my whole cup of water in one short sitting. why am I like that? Why didn't I consider changing that habit before surgery? It didn't dawn on me that I wouldn't be able to drink massive amouts of water. I mean, it's just water. I easily drank 150oz+ of water every single day. Since surgery I've been mostly lucky to get 10oz a day. Though since Thursday, I've been really pushing myself and have reached about 24oz a day, probably more. I'm having lots of trouble with protein, though. Part of it is that I am just not hungry ever. I always feel full. And I've made the mistake of feeling overfull - I do not recommend reaching that point. It left me pacing between my couch and the bathroom, waiting to throw up, which I never did. It's so hard to get used to drinking.eating so little. I'm so tired and so weak. I know I need calories and protein, but I also don't want to make myself sick in the process. So that's where I'm at on day 10.

CONGRATS!!!! That is so amazing and encouraging! I don't know you, but I am incredibly proud of you
  9. I too have learned my lesson on pushing it. I'm a about 10 days post op. I was so excited that I could have cottage cheese. It tasted so good. I went a bit overboard and was miserable for a few hours. That mistake won't happen again. I absolutely hear you Anthony74!! We will make mistakes, learn, and move on. I guess that's just how it works.
  10. I too had surgery the 2nd and am having kind of a rough time adjusting. I didn't think it was going to be a breeze, but I certainly didn't imagine how challenging it can be. sent from my rotary phone surgery date: 11/2/2016
  11. I miss gulping lots of Water at a time. This is the one thing I miss the most. I used to drink over a balloon of water a day, and now it's a challenge to get 10oz in me! sent from my rotary phone surgery date: 11/2/2016

    Scale

Oh my goodness....same here. I am 9 days out of surgery and I still feel bloated. Everyday I ask someone "why did I do this". The recovery is more difficult than I imagined. I know I'm supposed to drink fluids but I feel full all of the time. My dr said it's all normal, though. The adjustment to your new life after surgery seems more challenging than the procedure itself. But there is not one person I know who has had this or any weight loss surgery who says it was anything but the best decision the could have made for themselves! sent from my rotary phone surgery date: 11/2/2016
  13. I have a bazillion questions tonight. I'm one-week post op. I have yet to be able to even consume 10oz in a day, let alone 64. Is this normal?????
  14. I did have a big win today - I can move to smooth foods I immediately went to KFC and got mashed potatoes. Only had maybe one spoonful, but it made all the difference. it tasted absolutely wonderful. I'm looking forward to cottage cheese, yogurt, creamy Soups. I'm taking it very very very slow, but it's nice to have something other than broth and Water.
  15. I'm just curious. I'm 6 days post o.o and I don't believe my scale. sent from my rotary phone
  16. Not just buddies, though. I'd love to find some mentors and just make some general contacts within the forum. I've been on it all day reading all that I can. This is such a fantastic resource!
  17. Ice chips seem to work best for me. I've tried Water, crystal lite, popsicles, broth, bone broth.....ice chips are the only things that go down without a fight. The spit up thing is so weird!!!! I was trying to explain it to my brother. He was telling me that his son (4 months) just threw up on his arm. I asked him to clarify the difference between spit up and vomit and he couldn't. So I told him I know exactly how little Isaac felt! it's so different. I think I'm still dealing with swelling since a lot of things just won't go down.
  18. I"m having a real hard time with fluids, too. I try to get Proteins in as well, but the dr said focus on fluids first. I doubt I get in even 10 oz. This whole process is so bizarre,, isn't it? I feel like a child who's just learning to eat. It's so very weird. It'll go well, I know. But this first week has been much more difficult than I anticipated. I didn't at all thing it would be easy, but I didn't think it would be this hard, either.

    Stomach spasms

I'm a week post op and I still get them if I don't take the perscriptions. Make sure you stay on top of the medicine for spasms and nausea. I've been better since I have been taking it around the clock and not just as needed.

    Homemade Shakes vs Store bought?

I just use premier as I'm not all that great with mixing things together. I try to get creative and usually fail pretty hard! However I haven't had much luck with tolerating Protein. I'm going to buy some "liquid" protein stuff my dr sells. I guess it's the consistency of Water.
  21. I had planned to take the day off of work, but ended up working a 14 hour day. It definitely took my mind off of work, but I didn't get anything I wanted to get done in my real life. I ended up asking a friend to help with my apartment and to just vaccuum the living room. She cleaned my apartment top to bottom! It was a treat to come home to. Anyway....outside of work I did nothing special and was only ordered to not eat after 8 and not drink after 12.

    Gerd

I had it before surgery also. When I discussed which surgery to have, I could swear my dr told me that it would cure Gerd, but not right away. I'm one week post-op and I don't believe her. I'll know more tomorrow and will be happy to share what she has to say.
  23. I'd love a broth recipe!!!! I'm so sick of what I have. I dressed it up a bit tonight with a tiny bit of garlic and lemon pepper. but i'd prefer to make my own!
  24. Thank you for the suggestions and support. I'm writing all this down as I meet with my surgeon tomorrow morning. I would LOVE relief from this. I've dealt with Gerd for years and years. Prilosec always worked. But I am hoping we can find something different. I can't live with this. I'd like to avoid moving to bypass surgery. We had decided against it because of the significant endometrial scarring that I have. However....as crazy as this sounds - I'd be ok with another surgery if it means more time off of work!!!!
  25. Thank you for easing my mind!!! My Dr said to concentrate on fluids before Protein so I don't get dehydrated. I tend on the hypochondirac side of life so I was very concerned something was wrong. I absolutely love this forum!!!
