I live in WA State and have BcBs of IL. My BMI was 37, but I have sleep apnea. My entire process from my first call to my surgeon's office inquiring about information to my discharge a day after being sleeved was less than 2 months.
I had already met my deductible for the year, which is only $250, so my out of pocket expense was maybe $75 in various $15 copays for office visits. BCBSIL rocks.

Hello, I went to my PCP today to get a physical and to have my 8 month diet signed off on, just in case I am told that there is a six month diet even though I have heard many including yourself say that there is not one. I had an EKG, a chest x-ray, that was also part of the physical exam. I printed a letter of medical necessity and medical clearance and took it with me, the PCP kept that and said he had to have the office secretary re-type that and scan it into their system and asked me when I go to my appointment. I go for my initial consultation on Thursday, I am excited and ready to get the ball rolling.

@@SAL421 It's common to get cold feet. This is a huge decision. I think if you remember the reasons why you started on this journey you'll realize it is the right decision - but only you can decide. I'm scheduled in 20 days and know it's the only decision for me! I have to do it for my health.

October 3rd now I'm nervous and having mixed feelings ... okay the feeling is over once i think about my list of health problems . Lol

There is a reason for the pre-op, so please stay on track for your health and safety. If you are still a few days pre-op then get back up on the wagon and stay on program. I can tell you that post-op is more intense because you are healing so cheating then can have painful/serious complications.

Stay strong! Being compliant with the pre op diet makes it easier for our surgeon. It's not easy - especially when people around you decide to eat food that you love... But this is going to the the best winter of our lives! I can't wait till I can use this tool to shed some weight and feel better!

@@LifeRejuvenated I only told my SO and one sister for the months of prep. I told my Mom in July and since getting my date a few weeks ago have told my boss and one of my nieces. You don't have to tell anyone else - and it's not something you need to decide now anyway. Good luck on your journey!!!

Welcome to this wonderful, crazy and yes, sometimes frustrating ride! You will find a lot of great advice and support on this forum - although, it may not always be what you want to hear. That tough advice is often the best though.



For your own peace of mind - choose very carefully who you tell about your plans for surgery. Most people, unless they have had or at least researched the surgery themselves, know very little but think they know everything and can be very judgemental about. And even more, just don't understand the concept at all and may not mean to be unsupportive but if they've never struggled with weight themselves, don't get that it isn't as easy as "going on a diet". And you will most likely hear from those types that you are taking the "easy way out" - which just shows their ignorance because there is nothing easy about undergoing surgery and having to completely change your relationship with food.



Check with your insurance company now regarding their policy for weightloss surgery and ask for it in writing. They should be able to clearly tell you if THEY require any sort of medically supervised period prior to approving you for weightloss. Some don't require any, some require 3 months and some (like mine) require 6 months. If you do have a 6 month period - don't get discouraged. It will go by MUCH MUCH faster than you think! I'm actually thankful I had that 6 months to prepare. It gave me time to get all the pre-op testing done (and don't worry if one test comes back with a result that requires additional testing) and more importantly do my own research and fully prepare mentally for this. It also gave me a chance to work on changing my eating and starting to practice a healthier lifestyle prior to surgery. This gradual change in eating/exercise helped tremendously with my initial recovery from surgery.

Holy crap, guys!! 10 days to go for me!! I hope no one minds, but I'm going to add all of you as friends I start lovenox injections in place of aspirin tonight. Not nervous...yet - just getting so excited! How is everyone else feeling? Hugs to you all!!

Im Scheduled for October 6, I started my pre-op diet on Sept 22. It is HARD; I'm trying to eat/ drink every 2 hours to keep ahead of the hunger. as long as I commit to that its not AS bad. What is CRAZY is that I got weighed at my pre-op appointment and then I weighed myself this morning, and I'm down 7 pounds .. For me starting this is making me feel like this is getting more real.

Day 4 of 2 week liquid diet. A bit tired and tummy rumbles all day. But we got this! Oct 3rd surgery.

mine is also on October 4th I am on all liquid Premier Protein low fat broth low fat ice pop also sugar free and sugar free Jello with the Premier Protein I am aloud 7 drinks 1,120 calories and 80 left to fill with the ice pop or broth etc I am not hungry but I find myself waking up nauseous but upped my intake of Water so will see today.today is gonna be day 3 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I've just started my liquid diet today. My surgery date is October 5th. I am at my highest weight at 225. I am 59 years old.
Can’t stay like this much longer. I realize that I have to make some serious changes in my life. I’ve decided to write a sort of journal of my experience of going through this time in my life. I admit that I am somewhat scared and anxious but it is something that I want very much. I want to feel HEALTHY again.
Just had my first shake. Not so bad. Probably won’t say that after a few days of these drinks. I’m nervous and I don’t know why. I realize that I have to do this for 2 weeks. Will I succeed? I will really try my best. To come this far. I must push myself like I never have before.
I have all the co-morbidities that go with the weight gain such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, joint, back pain and sleep apnea. Very dangerous combination.

October 24th doing pre op October 11th as well as a pre surgery diet class

Got my insurance approval today. Excited to have procedure done October 26th! Currently eating high Protein, very low carb diet. Starting weight 400lbs! Down to 375 in 5 weeks. But I've lost 90 lbs before!! But just can't seem to keep it off! I am sure that this is the answer I'm looking for!
