Here's my "before" photo. I'm 428 lbs. Starting my pre-op diet. I'm giving up Coca-cola, smoking and most carbs. Trying to lose 25-40lbs before surgery. Hopefully January 13th during my next appointment we will schedule surgery.

Congratulations. I've been under 300 for a couple weeks now and I feel as though I'm approaching being a 'normal' person - whatever that is l..
My point is.. it is a great feeling. Our stats are quite similar so I feel connected to your accomplishment!

Today my scale read 298. I wanted to cry with happiness!
I haven't been this light for 6 years. I don't even know how to feel about it.

I've lost a total of 52 pounds in 8 weeks. I'm 6 weeks post surgery and even though it has been a rough journey it feels like life is starting to come together. I'm learning more every day and I've gotten through my first stall.
I'm starting to see why people say this was the best decision they ever made. As I'm not fully there yet, I hope one day I am.
My main goal for this post was because when things were super tough I needed to see the success people were achieving. I want to help inspire.
I want you to know you're not alone and even though each of our journeys are our own, you have more support here than you realize.
And hopefully I will never see a 3 on my scale again.

So I went through the exact same thing. My surgery was 10/12/16I didn't actually quit till 10/5/16 and felt horrible for it. I started reading on the possible side effects from smoking too close to surgery and I thought to myself that I'm doing this so I can be healthier and live longer and have a good life.. so why wouldn't I do this one last thing for myself too and not risk all these scary complications during and after surgery. I have not had a smoke since 10/5/16. I'm not saying I don't crave them.. especially since my husband smokes.. but I didn't pat all this money and go through all this work and sacrifice to be unhealthy - hope this helps

Sounds like me! I'm a month and some change post-op and I honestly don't remember ever feeling this good. I've dropped 50+lbs since the start of the liquid diet pre-op and the weight is falling away. It's pretty f-ckin' awesome, yeah?

My wife worries that it'll cause her to be less attracted to me physically, she has only ever known me as a big guy and although she knows it's important to my health and she supported me all the way, she's just worried about how she'll feel about it. She doesn't want a "skinny guy." I told her not to worry, even if I get lean I don't plan to be a "skinny guy." My goal is to put on some pretty serious muscle mass after I get closer to goal. I want to be able to do all the stuff I've pretty much never been able to do. I want my kids to think I'm a superhero and for them to be proud when they point me out to their friends...and I want to set a good example for them.
I've read that WLS can sometimes damage relationships though, because the party NOT doing the surgery often has reasons of their own that have nothing to do with their friend/partner/family member who is undergoing surgery, for them staying the way they are. Either they prefer you heavy, maybe they're insecure and worry about other people hitting on you, or you deciding you're too good for them...or they liked having an enabler to their own behavior, etc... There can be a lot of reasons. To me, this is something I have to do and if someone likes or loves me less as a result of it, then that was a problem on their end, not on mine.

The first few days will suck, but you'll rebound quickly. (I was feeling MUCH better by the third day post-op.)
Good luck and have a safe rest of your trip.
