DJ's Nana reacted to Autumn Riley Arnold in Just had my surgery on Wed. Want to tell you 'bout it
I guess I should now be over on the POST gb forum, but I wanted to post this here so that people about to get the surgery know what it might be like.
I was sooo nervous and sooo emotional! I had no IDEA how much of a hold, food has over me! Since I use it to cope, I've been crying a lot lately. I really need to get some psychiatric help so that I can find a healthy outlet for my emotions instead of using food.< br />Other than that, my surgery went amazing! I was in there for 3 and a half hours. It was done laparoscopically and it took so long because I have a LOT of scar tissue in that area from previous surgeries.
I woke up in hardly any pain and never really HAD any pain at all, except for the gas. The gas is what hurt the most. So on the second day, I was up and walking the halls, doing about 4 trips around the two nursing stations and other rooms in the center in an hour.
I was released yesterday and love being home! Things are just like they used to be, except I can't pick up and hold my cat, he's too heavy. I can't vacuum and do most of the chores I used to do but I can wash the dishes and keep the kitchen looking nice. Also, I have to be up and walking every hour too! I only walk for about 5 minutes because I'm not used to exercise and it hurts my legs and back really bad. But I will build that up to 10 minutes in no time.
So all in all, it went great! Hardly any pain and no more hunger! Oh, although! When I see some commercials (and I cannot BELIEVE how many commercials there are for food!) it makes me REALLY desire them! Even though I'm not hungry, I STILL want them. And that's what scares me and what I need counseling for.
I'm still on the clear liquid diet for another 4 days and then go to full liquids which I can't wait for! Too much sweet stuff (drinks, popsicles and jello) on the clear liquid diet. lol
So I hope this has helped and was good to read for some of you! Good luck!

Just checking in. It's been 10 months and I'm down 102. 60 more to go. I've been kind of static for a few weeks. I have gotten lazy about tracking. Starting tomorrow I'm back to that. I have to keep track so bad behaviors don't become bad habits again. I'm 65 and really happy that I had the gastric sleeve 11/18/15.

Hi Everyone!! I am new to this site but not to the Sleeve surgery community. I had my surgery in November of 2015. When I started the journey I weight in at 320 lbs. Since that time I am down to 165 lbs and feel so great. I want to pay it forward and have even created a blog: throwingscales.net as a place to connect with others. Would love to chat and get to know people!! My before and after photos are below.

A couple sips is all you need right now. It's a sip by sip that will get us all through. Every sip counts. And the more Protein you are able to get in the better you will start to feel.

It is a very difficult adjustment at first, but after a while it becomes second nature. Remember that this is a process that does take a great deal of time to get used to because you are changing years and years of eating and drinking habits!
As my bariatric team says, "Inch by inch, it's a cinch...yard by yard, it's hard." Take it day by day and bit by bit and you'll get there in the end!

It's hard to decipher all the replies you have gotten I'm sure. So let me say one thing first. You have had several "Vets" reply and try helping you. You will also see a lot of replies that jump to conclusions and or from posters who are really new that honestly think they know all the answers. That's not a bad thing but there is a difference in information between not being sleeved yet, recently sleeved and years out sleeved. As well as different info from rny and bypass people. Everyone's body is different and will adjust their own way. My surgeon told me my sleeve won't stretch. However should I eat things I shouldn't and way too much of it my stomach will expand but it will contract back down. We have bunches of layers inside out tummy walls and that's what expands and contracts before and after you eat. If you eat a large meal and then eat a small meal it won't "stretch" however if you get to a point where you are only eating large bad meals it won't contract all text way back down because of the brain signals saying hey he/she is still hungry. And then you get the weight gain back. I was told (every surgeon and every persons body is different) not to drink for an hour before and an hour after my meals. I was to be finished with my meal in 15-20 minutes and if I still had food leftover to put it up and not pick at it. It's leaning to feel full not finishing what's on your plate. If you drink with your meal it will cause the food to slip through your sleeve making you think you are still hungry and washes away the good absorption that we need. You make feel hungrier sooner or sick with foamies, even vomiting. So what's the point in risking it when we all are using this "tool" to helps us get back to healthy. Just my 2 cents from a newb.

Am I a newbie. Yes. I started my 2 week liquid diet today. Surgery on the 3rd. If I have questions or need advise I want to hear from vets. I like being told straight and not sugar coated. Sugar coated won't help me succeed! I know that everyone's body is different and outcomes are different. But I also know that I am doing this so I can live, live longer and healthier. So why in the world would I jeopardize a tool that I was thankfully Givin to eat the same way that put me where I am now. NO! I have to change me, my mindset and I have to be willing to do it. And I refuse to self sabotage my health and life for a piece of bacon, or cake, or whatever it may be when I know that ..."hmm just onepiece can't hurt or well I already screwed up and ate one so why not keep eating wrong all day I'll go back to what I should be eating tomorrow." Hello! No! New mindset. I'm stronger then this. I can do this. I'm worth it. I'm not going to throw away a gift and tool. So yes there are newbies who just don't care. But there are also plenty like me who needs our vets advice and Ideas. Just my 2 cents.

I had sleeve surgery on 9/6/16. I came home the next day and have been doing great. I never really had any pain, just some gas the first couple of days. But that has subsided. Now it's easier to drink more too. I've been walking 3-4 miles a day since 3 days after surgery. I've been dropping between 1-3 pounds a day. I must confess I'm sick of the shakes and have started eating real food. I'm probably not supposed. I'm eating very small portions (1/4cup) of chicken or turkey meat and the same size of cooked carrots or cauliflower. I chew really well and mush it all up and have not had any pain, nausea or ill repercussions. I've had a little broth too and 1 SF Popsicle. Things are going great.

Hey everyone...I thought I'd share the rest of my sleeve story. So I was sleeved July 6, 2016. I thought I was doing well the first two weeks...until I went back to work. By then I was on the puree phase but barely taking that step forward. It started with chest pain, then left shoulder pain, then the vomiting of foam and sometimes bile...it was awful. After going back and forth to the hospital, my doctors decided ok no more anything through the mouth. Lol I was miserable for 3 weeks of getting nutrition through a catheter in my arm all because of a hernia repair that was keeping liquids from going down successfully. I did nothing wrong. Finally, I'm back to normal able to go on dates with my fiance, eat normally...well normally for us lol...and most important I published my first book! Life is good for me now that I'm over that discouraging hurdle. 3 weeks ago I was down 40lbs, I get weighed again in 2 1/2 weeks...I'm one of those people that refuse to get on the scale in case I get mad and throw it across the room lol. Ok that's enough rambling...have a great day everyone!

DJ's Nana reacted to Color83 in Cheated on my preop liquid diet, will the dr cancel my surgery?
To the original poster, I would honestly try to get my mind right if I you....not to shame you about cheating because shit happens, but cheating 3 days in a row seem a little bothersome....and with this mindset with being tricky or lying to your surgeon ( not necessarily from you) you may be setting yourself up for failure.... weightloss surgery is not the end all be all of our issues with food.....truth is as "fat" people most of us have learned at one point or another to be very sneaky or I would even say conniving with food. Food is our drug and at one point or another we have all lied or done something tricky behind food...but before we go through with surgery we have to make up our minds to shed our old selves and behaviors around food, because I am pretty sure you already know you can "trick" that pouch or sleeve...I know a friend of the family that had gastric bypass 2 yrs ago and has never been able to get under 380 lbs because she learn to eat around it....if we eat out of stress or emotion we need to learn how to correct this before we have this surgery...first step would be to learn how to stop being sneaky and how to cover up our tracks with food... I would suggest being honest with your surgeon...and then learn the "triggers" that cause you to be impulsive and have no will power around food.
