allies journey reacted to Bufflehead in How do people lose 40 lbs in a month?!
Well I never did, and I started at a very high BMI and followed an extremely strict post-op regimen to the letter. The most I ever lost in a month was 20 lbs, and that was one time at the very beginning.
I still managed to lose over 200 lbs and go from a 6X to a 6. Hang in there and focus on the long game, not what the scale said yesterday or what it might say tomorrow. You can control what you eat, how much exercise you get, and your stress and sleep levels (both important for weight loss). But you can't control exactly how the scale responds to that. The sooner you give up expectations of seeing losing x pounds per month, the happier and less stressed out you will be. Good luck!

That's a good question! While I would love to lose more each month...that would be kind of freaky! I'm 4 months post op and have lost 55lbs. I've had many stalls which is frustrating but it's part of the process....my Dr told me it's our body's way of "catching up" with the rapid weightloss ...whatever that means...lol

Zip it up. At 70 years old I have learned to mind my business and avoid everyone else's business. It is needless heartache to have someone hurt you. you are perfect. Close the gap in discussing your weight with Anyone. Love and hugs your way.

The co-worker was way out of line..a social ape. He actually spoke to your husband that way about you?
You have nothing to feel ashamed about. You have no reason to make excuses for yourself by defensively listing past triumphs. Life happened to you, good, bad and neutral. You're about to embark on a course that's nothing but positive. Let that be a source of pride. You have plenty of triumphs ahead. Screw the apes.
(I'm sure your husband is a great guy and crazy about you. Ask him not to repeat ape-talk if it ever comes up again.)

Don't be ashamed because your husband's co-worker is a lying, ignorant asshole. He's the one who needs to be ashamed, not you. You have a medical problem, he has a probably incurable character and personality defect.

Please don't feel ashamed. All kinds of people have all kinds of struggles, ours are just visible to other people, which makes it easier for people to comment.
Make your life easy, don't tell people about your surgery. It isn't any of their business and it is not worth rolling the dice on if they will be supportive or be evil and petty.
Be proud you are taking control of your life.

The only people who know my plan now are the only ones who are ever likely to know. I am not ashamed of my decision, but I don't suffer fools well and I know that about myself. Due to my career I know thousands of people. So rather than potentially pissing off a few thousand or so with a very direct "it's none of your damn business" I'm going with the truth "I'm working very hard with my doctor to be a healthier person."

Don't let this asshole upset you or make you feel any shame! If we could lose weight and keep it off only by eating healthy and exercising - not one of us would go thru major surgery to lose weight! This guy doesn't know jackshit! This is your journey! Stay strong!

Yeah, it gets old, but it's for the best. It's more of a prescription than a suggestion because you're healing. Your time for real food will come soon enough.

We have same sleeve date as you, I have lost 19 so far started at 270 my first appointment, 6/8 now at 251. Can't wait for the surgery. Keep seeing that everyone has a holding pattern of about 3 weeks early on but sounds like a adjustment to your body period. Good to know so we don't freak out about it when it happens. .

I am waiting for insurance approval, didn't have to do an extended diet and my pre-op diet will only be 3 days of liquids. Every surgeon is different.
I don't expect to lose anything in those 3 days. One of the reasons I want WLS is because I am such a slow loser I can't stay on any diet long enough to lose weight.
I have tried Weight Watchers, Slim-fast, Medifast, you name it. I starve all week and maybe lose a pound, two if I am lucky. After a couple of weeks I get discouraged and give up. I am not one of those who has lost and regained hundreds of pounds.
There are a lot of factors, people with more to lose will lose faster in the beginning. Younger people often lose faster (I know I did when I was younger, I am almost 54 now)
I feel your pain but throughout this process I know I am not going to be able to compare myself with anyone. We are each unique in this journey.

I think you may be unconsciously cherry-picking the numbers you look at, or maybe more people who lost a lot of weight pre-op are feeling braggy and post their numbers. 10 lbs in a week is not normal or average in any part of the process, either pre-op or post-op, so don't set yourself up for failure with that comparison. 4 lbs in a week is awesome and you should be proud of yourself and happy.

It happened to me and lasted almost 17 days and then BAM I dropped 5 lbs. You're going to see and hear of people who changed it up i.e. diet, exercise, routine, etc. Personally I just put my scale away.
Trust me it's gonna be cool.

This has been a fantastic ride so far. I started at 276 and have been at 190 for several months. I can breathe much better, and I am a LOT more mobile. I got off the breathing machine. I walk much more, and am overall healthier than I have EVER been. So, what is the problem? I feel guilty to even gripe since my life is infinitely better. That being said, it's this last darned 5 lbs. I've been trying for MONTHS to get my final five off and they will not come. I exercise, eat right, do not deviate from the plan, to no avail. Please, I realize how fortunate I am to have such success. It is low priority from a logical standpoint, but in my mind, I still become frustrated. Maybe it's there to keep me humble.

I would have to say last night was my worst night. I took a shower, the nurse came in to change my dressing. When she pulled the tape off it hurt like hell. I must have taken the deepest breathe because my chest started feeling like it was caving in.
As she walked out of the room I started to tear up. I had chills in my arms, my left shoulder started hurting and my neck had the sharpest pain. I was given a little white pill to sleep and that's exactly what I did.
Later in the evening the doctor came in to take out my drain (ouch) that was a weird feeling. It only took 5 seconds, but was the worst 5 seconds.
Woke up took a shower had a 1/2 cup of Jello and a few bites of yogurt. My dressing was changed again. Now I'm on my way home:) Feeling much better they even gave us a medical pass to pass the boarder faster. Wish me luck on a speedy recovery!!
