  4. I've been a tummy sleeper all my life. It has always been the only position I can fall asleep. After surgery, how long will it be before I can return to tummy sleeping? 3 weeks away from surgery and my mind is racing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Newbie Process Questions

Thank you everyone. I'm very excited to be at this point. I liked reading that I don't have to disclose specifics to my boss. I wish I could take vacation to avoid the conversation but when on vacation people still call for help but n my job and I don't want to be in that situation so I will need to tell them I am having surgery. 6. I have successfully made it through all the screening appointments, met with the surgeon and now I'm waiting for insurance approval. How does this part of the process work? Will I get "THE CALL" from the insurance company or the Surgeon's office? I'm a bit freaked out about knowing how to approach work with this. I work for a very large company in a demanding job. I have a feeling if I tell my boss it is an elective surgery she will ask me to wait until January. I don't want to but I also need my job. How have you handled alerting work? Michigan Sleevers: For those who went through Beaumont's Weight Control Program, during the time you were going through all the testing & appointments, did you lose weight? At my first dr. appointment, he said he wanted me to lose 10% of my weight before surgery. This isn't an insurance requirement, just a target he wanted me to go for. I started losing but then totally went off the bandwagon. My final dr. appointment is this week and I am terrified he will reject me bc I am not losing. This is the appointment where the dr. Approves or disapproves me going forward to meet with the surgeon. Help! What were your experiences? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I saw a segment this morning on the today show regarding a 4 year study they did comparing a thin person's brain to an obese person's brain. After eating a meal until feeling full, the thin person's brain hardly had any activity but the obese person's brain acted like it had not eaten yet. They stated they now have biological confirmation that we are wired differently. In the segment they said that when weight-loss surgery is done, the obese brain reacts like the thin person's brain but only for the first year. The brain reverts back to its old self after a year. Scary!!! I know I have to totally change my eating habits but I sure hope Im not one of many who gain back. Your thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. My insurance company isn't making me do the 3-6 months of dieting and this process is still taking way too long. I'm ready now but am going through the all these tests and visits. Just set the dang date already!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Fitbit

I use my Fitbit daily. I love the step count. I set goals each week and it feels so good to get that vibration stating I met my goal. I'm also tracking my sleep, something I don't get much of. Mine also tracks my Water and food intake. Love it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Frustrated

Could you be confusing a prior authorization with the requirement of doing the 3 to 6 month weight-loss before surgery? I also have BCBSM and my BMI is in the category that does not require the 3 to 6 month weight loss period But I still require an authorization from the insurance company. 13. I am in the very initial stage of sleeve surgery. Met with the team (Dr., NUT, Exercise Physiologist, Labs & EKG done). My question is ... Can I do anything in this PRE-Surgery mode to assist with future loose skin? I am 50+ and have a lot to lose (100+) and fear that I will end up looking horrible with loose skin everywhere. Any advice? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oh thank you for this thread. I just went to my initial evaluation at the Beaumont WCC and was given the daunting task of choosing which of the 3 RO surgeons to use. I was researching online but not getting a lot of info. My gut was leaning towards Krause and now with this thread, I feel like I have direction. Was he hard to schedule with? My insurance won't require the 3-6 month pre-op period so as soon as I can get my testing done, I will be able to meet with him and schedule. I'm confused about this Rachel person. Is she still there? Can you navigate around her? I don't want any roadblocks or drama. Last question .. Did any of you go to the bariatric support groups before surgery? Did that help?
