So I was talking to someone today about the Gastric Bypass surgery and she had it about 8 years ago. She just kept telling me well you know your going to have loose skin. A lot of it. I'm just telling you because a lot of pool don't think they will. But you will have a lot of loose skin. Ok lady thank you I heard you the 14 th time. I know I will have loose skin but I would rather have loose skin then not be able to fit in a seat comfortable , or go to movies with out having to have a seat in between my spouse and I so I have room. I can't wait to get on a plane or hell even plan a trip and not care about getting on the plane because of how tiny the seats are. Trust me I love how beautiful I am . I know I'm a really pretty woman but this weight has to go. Loose skin or not.

I brought a Protein Shake with, but I'm soooo over them. It was a buffet I grabbed a piece of chicken and some cream of chicken Soup. I was very nervous. I cut about a tbsp of chicken up and ate it slow. Then dipped my spoon into the soup. It all tasted great and no issues. First time I feel like this might get better

Sounds like she is lying to you, him and herself. Either is a liar, cheater or just a user. She is one or more of thise things. She is either using you because she gets her kicks with fantasizing with you knowing full well you are necer going to be more than what you are right now. She will talk to you when she has time and be a catfish type of thing. But in her real world she wants to be married. Why else and how else could she be in a 2yr relationship heading to the altar?
You are not in her life. You are in the life she wants you to be in. She cuts and pastes what she wants you to know or make you believe. You may think you know her very well. But she may have you bamboozled just as much as her soon to be husband.

I was in the same boat. As my BMI was 50, my supervised diet was waived. Also, BCBS of MI does not require formal approval. As long as you meet the pre-reqs you are automatically approved.
Given all that, I had my surgery 6 weeks from my first appointment. I felt the same way. It moved SO fast that in a way I felt totally unprepared. On the other hand, I was thankful I didn't have to prepare for 6 months.
Go for it! Don't look back! I'm so happy that I was able to take the path I did. I took advantage of those 6 weeks and lost 47 lbs pre-op. I'm now just shy of 6 month post-op and down about 155lbs total and below my personal goal weight.
If I had waited those 6 months, I would be just over a month post-op and in a totally different place. No better time than the present!!!

mrsNilla reacted to Shell Renewed in Layered Mexican in a Mason Jar (Purée)
    Hi All,
I was missing Mexican and so I did a variation on the tex mex recipes I've seen. It's mostly pureed but a tiny bit thick. The one tiny 'cheat' is I added a sprinkle of tex-mex cheese mix. It's not as much as it seems in the picture, maybe because it hadn't melted down yet. One of my time savers is to precook my ground beef (and my chicken, etc), puree once cooked then freeze. Then I can quickly assemble ready-made meals.
I really love using my tiny mason jars as my 4 oz Portion Control. If I finish what's in it, I'm full. They make great tiny serving dishes in the early days. Since my top priority is to avoid stretching my sleeve, this keeps me honest.
    Prep time: 2 minutes
    Serves: 1
    Calories: 175
    Carbs: 9
    Fat: 10
    Protein: 14
    Sodium: 139
Layer in a 1/2 cup mason jar:
2 oz refried Beans (I used Old El Paso)
1 oz of pre-cooked, pureed lean ground beef
1 oz of thin, pureed salsa (I used Old El Paso)
A tiny sprinkle of jack or tex mex mix cheese. (I used Kraft)
    Microwave 1-1.5 minutes
Variations: If I had sour cream in the house I may have added a teaspoon of that on top of the salsa, then the cheese. If I had some avocados or guac, I may have put a teaspoon of that.
I was able to detemine the nutrition info by plugging in my recipe into Myfitnesspal. It's a great tool for that.
Tell me if you try it and if you like it

You have no idea just how beautiful you are, and I mean that. All of us know how hard this journey can be, and it's very easy to get caught up in the scale numbers game. Try and take a step back and really see how much you've already accomplished.
You've already lost nearly 200 pounds! That's incredible! Think about how much better you feel. How easier it is to walk and breathe, and simply do things daily. You are amazing and have achieved what many others never do. Please don't give up on yourself.
Put away that scale for awhile and just remind yourself of just how wonderful and amazing you truly are!

I definitely went through a prolonged period where food lost its appeal. Bland and unexciting. At the time I was a bit concerned too, but now in retrospect, I view it as a plus. It was something that helped me, along with feeling full for the first time in my life, kick a lot of unhealthy eating habits for good.
It didn't last forever, and I doubt yours will either, although some of my tastes in food never returned, like eating meat - I still have no desire for it at 14 months. Everything else I gave up during that golden period of weight loss, when nothing tasted good, like bread, Pasta, soda, sweets, salt and other things, I might have gone back to eventually, but being away from it for so long, I no longer crave them anymore. And to be extra safe, I don't allow them in my house.
It's so amazing to finally be free of their power over me. Nothing I gave up compares to how great I feel now! ????
    Hang in there!

mrsNilla reacted to GamblinAJ in 1 year out. (Ok a tiny bit over)
So I'm just over a year from my surgery day. And just under 2 years from when I made the decision to make a life change. In October of 2014 I attended my first class about bariatric surgery. This class is the initial class that helps you decide if it is for you or not.(or to at least go on to the next step) That first day my weight was 422, and I decided to go forward with the bypass.
I had to then wait to be assigned to a class, a class that lasts 12 weeks. It tought me everything about the surgery and new life I would be expecting. This class began in January of 2015.
Well after completion in March I had lost about 10lbs to 412. Then came the long waiting period. One that they made clear. "Don't call us we will call you!" So I waited, and waited and waited some more. Then got the call the 2nd week of August, 2015. And the wheels got going and fast! Less then two weeks later I was at the hospital on August 24th having surgery.
On the day of my surgery I weighed in at 409lbs. The surgery went great. Afterwards I had little to no pain and was up walking immediately. The year has been a great journey. Today I weigh in at 208lbs and feel great. It has been a fantastic journey. I have no regrets and qould do it again without a doubt. I have been around temptation plenty. Several trips to Vegas including a stay for 9 days. I've been to winery's. All the time not touching alcohol and steering cleer of the food that ruined my life.I'm thankful for the tool I was given and plan on using it to the fullest. Best of luck to anyone thinking of having the surgery, and continued success to those who have had this life changing experience. As for me last year I changed my health, this year I change my job. Think positive????

I think you may be unconsciously cherry-picking the numbers you look at, or maybe more people who lost a lot of weight pre-op are feeling braggy and post their numbers. 10 lbs in a week is not normal or average in any part of the process, either pre-op or post-op, so don't set yourself up for failure with that comparison. 4 lbs in a week is awesome and you should be proud of yourself and happy.

Thanks for the tips! The two things I'm dreading to give up are my carbonated Water and my huge cup of tea in the morning. Not even the tea that much.... I dislike regular Water.< /p>
I have been working hard with my physiotherapist and I'm happy to say that I'm in pretty good shape, if you take into account I had to learn how to walk again just over a year ago. So physically ok, but people talk about the mental rollercoaster after the surgery... But nobody really explains what and why it is hard? And not asking about the letting go of food like it was before. Can anyone give me a hint? Any way to prepare..?
The big no for getting the surgery here is smoking, absolutely not allowed. Also alcohol and certain medications are a problem, but I guess that is universal.

Thank you! The obvious change in food routines I had figured out, but hormones in fat cells?!? I read a lot, but didn't come accross that piece of information.
I also feel strongly about having a support person/group who knows what you are going thru. I do that for a different reason in my every day life. The knowledge in this group of people is so valuable to us all.
The surgery and following pain is a non-issue for me. This will just be one more to add to my list.
Still struggling with what to tell my Mom and when. She hates doctors and any medical procedures and is very vocal about it. She lives 300 miles away, so she doesn't see me that often. Maybe a suprise? ????
My dad will be fine with it and my hubby already knows what I decided to have done. But what to tell the other people in my life?

Normally I'm constipated, but the last two weeks have been a challenge! I'm also drinking Premier protein..magnesium citrate helps somewhat, hopefully pureed veggies will help! It's been the only complaint.. Other than that I feel great!

Or drop a small berry into it and some ice chips whip it up in blender so its thick like a real milkshake.? Try biking or swimming also for exerciseso go drink , ask
your mom is you can wash walls for her? Also go clean the bathroom that SURE kills any appetite I have. My primary care says if you think you're hungry you're teetering on dehydration

Hahaha this made me laugh - and cry! Because I am currently moving into week 2 of my pre-op liquid diet and everything has been "moving" along normally, then last night - LORD HAVE MERCY - Constipation hit me like a brick (yep!).
I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and they gave me some sample laxatives so I dug them out and downed one! Afterwards I read the back and it states: "produces a bowel movement within 12-72 hours" !! What sort of timeframe is that!?
If I could turn back time I would be adding the fiber to my shakes at the beginning of last week!!
I've just never had this problem!! TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED DURING THIS PROCESS!!
Moving forward its added fiber all the way until I can actually eat real food again. I encourage everyone to strongly consider doing the same, because it's not fun - really not fun!

I only had to do a 2 week liquid pre-op to shrink my liver in prep for RnY. I drank Protein shakes, broth, tea, Water, SF Jello and SF Popsicles. The first 3 days weren't too bad. On Day 4 I was ready to gnaw my arm off and beat everyone around me with it! When I made it to Week 2, it was much better. Was told by my NP that most lose 9-15 lbs during this time, and I lost 9 lbs. Now down 30 lbs more since surgery date 6/20. Oh! Be sure to add Fiber to your Protein Shakes. ( I like Benefiber clear--no color, no taste. Or Fiber gummies.) Otherwise, all that Protein will really make you constipated! I ended up drinking all of my magnesium citrate meant for the day before surgery, in the middle of Week 2. It was THAT bad. Had trouble again the first 2 months after surgery and had to use stool softeners in addition to fiber. Never had this problem in my life! However, since I graduated to Stage 4 of the eating plan, eating fresh or steamed veggies every day does the trick. Yay!

Here was my 10 day fat man pre op diet. Two premier shakes, all of the sugar free Jello I wanted, a green salad per day with lemon juice or vinegar for dressing, I could have grilled unseasoned chicken or white fish, at least a spoonful of Greek yogurt to promote good stomach bacteria. I mixed the yogurt with the lemon and it made a killer dressing for my chicken and green salad. I had it at work for a sense of normalcy and it worked well. I had headaches for the first 3 days but after that all was good. I went from 312 to 293 in 10 days.

Just a few thoughts... I'm new to the forum, I live in northern Europe, so the approach to WLS is different than in the US.
Here you have to show that you know how to diet (yo-yo for most of my life) by doing a VLCD under the watchful eye of a NUT. Did that successfully and the weight, once again, started creeping up... I know what I do wrong and to top it all up I have a mobility issue do to an illness (not weight related).
My NUT offered me the surgery and I was hesitant and wanted to think about it first, but yesterday I said yes and so the ball starts rolling. Mind you, I didn't go to the NUT with WLS as an option, I just wanted support for doing it the oldfashioned way.
I'm now waiting for my appointment to see my surgeon and hopefully on my way to the new and improved me just after new years. Apparently the wait time is not that long and I'm happy about that. Already looking forward to getting my surgery date. The NUT told me that they operate on people in much worse condition, so I should get the surgeons approval easily... We'll see.
I have a trip planned and am supposed to spend Thanksgiving with a good friend in FL. I hope to return for the next Thanksgiving as a smaller and healthier me.
I want to thank everyone who post with information, tips and success stories. I will be reading them all, while waiting for my turn.
So here I go, trying to shed some weight already before my pre-op diet and hoping not to have time to go back to bad eating habits.
Have a great fall and take care, my new virtual, no longer dysfunctional family!

mrsNilla reacted to Sajijoma in Today I am officially not "plus sized" what a colossal NSV for me!
I went shopping today because I desperately needed pants that fit. I wasn't sure what would fit so I tried on 16's and they were too big. Then I tried on 14's and they were kinda loose. I thought just for jiggles I'd try on some 12's and they fit! I was so shocked I actually broke down crying in the changing room. I have always been good at keeping my emotions locked down tight, but in there at that moment, I totally lost it and started bawling and LOUD. The changing room attendant knocked on the door and asked if I was ok. It took me awhile, but I managed to get the words out that I was ok and that I had found out I was a smaller size than I thought I was. I'M sure she thought I had lost my ever loving mind, but for me, this is a monumental thing. I had been an overweight kid and an obese adult, my entire life! The size I put on and zipped up, I NEVER had been that size. The closest I had to being that size was a size 11 juniors in 4th grade, so here I am, over 30yrs later and I am finally smaller than I was in 4th grade. It was monumental. I also discovered why it's important to check the price tag before falling in love with a pair of pants because $115 for a pair of pants I probably won't get more than a couple months wear out of was just too much, so I had to put them back. Broke my heart, but I did go on to find other 12's and some 14's that worked and I am officially not plus sized anymore. I can shop in the regular section with all the cute clothes!❤️ From 32/34 and some 36 down to a size 12 in less than a year...all I can say is wow! Thanks RNY for giving me a life I didn't know was attainable!

There really isn't a lot you can do. I started looking into this because I was concerned about my oldest boy. He is 27 and has to be about 350. I asked him to go with me to the seminar and to consider doing it with me but he has a lot of anxiety about the idea of surgery and wants to give losing another shot the old fashioned way.
I'm devastated because I know what he sounds like when he sleeps and he seriously falls asleep constantly during the day. So so worried about his health.
I am really hoping that after watching me yo yo all these years and then seeing the positive change in my life post surgery he will give it more consideration.
