Questions about pre-op tests
Hi I am with Kaiser. I've asked the surgeon at my first class if I would have to have sleep study or endoscopic testing? He said no. I've been reading on the forums about everyone having all these tests. Should I be worried that these tests are not being preformed? I am 49 yrs. 5'3 and weigh 243. I do know that I have to have blood work done and a goal weight to achieve before surgery. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Preparation and Recovery
Kaiser recommends two weeks for recovery. If your job includes lifting 3 weeks. The surgeon that spoke at our class today said all healing would be done by 3 weeks. I asked specifically if that included swelling and he said yes. I was a little surprised by this because of all I've read on this forum. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using the BariatricPal App

1st class Kaiser Fresno Ca.
Hi everyone, I went thru the second step required by my Kaiser today. The surgeon, nutritionist and our case manager each spoke and explained the surgery, diet and requirements to achieve surgery. We got our binder ( WLS bible) I'm very lucky. I don't have to do any sleep apnea or endoscopic procedure. I will have 3 appointments. One with Nutritionist, Psychology evaluation and a meeting with surgeon to discuss what procedure is best for me and my surgery goal weight. Once I have reached weight goal I will do all blood work and if everything is good I will have my WLS I hope I can go through all the hoops and have surgery sometime in December. Only time will tell. I'm so excited and nervous.

OMG I can't believe it
Hi everyone, I'm the Gal who had an issue with bmi only being 39. I went into the bariatric department on 9/1 to be officially weighed and get my height. Found out I was 5"3 instead of 5"4 and I had a bmi of 42. My case manager informed that I had to have 2 weigh ins showing a 40 bmi. Well in May and June I had Doc visits with weight of 227 & 228. I was scheduled with a phone consultation with surgeon next Tuesday. So today I sent surgeon an email about my height being 5"3 and not 5"4 and my weight in May and June and wondering if he'd consider that as weigh ins. About 10 minutes later my case manager called and informed me that I have been accepted into the program!!! I go to my first class next Friday. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. Under BMI
I'm struggling with keeping my bmi at 40. I have a phone consultation with surgeon on Tuesday. I gained weight to become eligible for surgery. Was told only needed one bmi of 40 or higher one time within the last year. I met that in August. But now case manager says I need 2 weigh ins. I went in for my official weigh in and height on 9/1. Offical weight 242 height 5"3. When I started WW 4 years ago I was 5"4. So that has been the height I've been telling all docs. So in May and June when I saw a doctor my weight at those visits with a height of 5"3 would of put me at the required 40 bmi. Surely a person can't lose an inch in height during a 3 month period? Anxious to see what the surgeon has to say about this when I talk to him. How much weight would you have to gain to reach your bmi? Have you checked you height? The not knowing is so stressful Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using the BariatricPal App

Anyone starting to think this isn't the "right" answer/tool?
I haven't been approved for the classes yet. But I sometimes think that way. I keep reminding myself that for now I just want the chance to research my options. To keep an open mind. My step daughter is 16 months post op and my sister-in-law is 4 months. They have done amazing. Give yourself time to take in all the info before you try to decide. Need encouragement!
My hubby and I started working out with a trainer June 1st. We pay for our training sessions. That is the biggest motivation for us. We do 30 min. Weights with trainer and 30 min. Cardio. I love the treadmill and the elliptical. Are aim is for 3 nights a week (2 with trainer 1 just us) So we are guaranteed to be there 2 nights. I'm waiting for approval for WLS and I'm just at 40 bmi. I talk with surgeon on the 13th to see if he will clear me to begin the classes. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using the BariatricPal App

Kidney disease
Hi everybody I'm the gal who only had the 39 bmi. Then with a little help became 41 bmi. Recently I was told that may have to carry a bmi of 40 or greater for at least a month to be reconsidered if surgeon denies me. I have a phone consult with the surgeon this month (he's the one that took out my gallbladder 2 yrs ago and told me then I need gastric bypass). I have high cholesterol. But I've also been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. On no meds for it. But it's in my chart for ongoing conditions. Could this be something that could help me qualify for the surgery? Made the bmi but now.....
Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. Today I talked to my bariatric case manager. She said that they require 2 months in a row of 40 bmi. I explained that in the orientation class that they told us we only had to have one bmi within the last year. (I am with Kaiser). When I talked to her on Monday she knew I was coming in for my official height and weight on Thursday 9/1. I feel very uncomfortable. The surgeon is calling me on the 13th to discuss my health and to tell me if he accepts me into the program. This is the same surgeon that took out my gallbladder 2 years ago and he told me then I needed bariatric surgery. At the time that was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted the pain I was having to be gone. Doc preformed emergency surgery to remove galbladder. Back to 5he case manager. She said if the surgeon denies me that I can weigh in after 9/25 to see if my bmi is still at 40 or higher. Gosh this uncertainty is causing me anxiety. Lol Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'll let you know what I learn on the 13th. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using the BariatricPal App

Made the bmi but now.....
Hi all, So at first my BMI was only 39 with no health issues. Today I met with my psychologist to find out that my treatment in this department could effect my chances for qualifying. Been being treated for depression and anxiety since 2012. Dad diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Battled that with him for 9 months. Lost him in July 2013. In MAY of 2014 my mother-in-law diagnosed with ovarian cancer that then went on to spread throughout her body. She lost her battle on May 30 2016. Been on meds and having therapy to help me deal with all this. To think this could stop me from getting WLS is so unfair. I'm trying to make me the healthiest me I can be. Anyone starting weight at 200 lbs? Help :)
I love this post. I am thinking about the WLS. I have to remind myself that this surgery will be a tool and not a fix it forever procedure. I lost 60#'s on WW in a year. I really worked the plan. 3 years later I've gained 40 of it back. I keep thinking I don't want to go back to tracking every bite, every liquid and exercise I do. I'm starting to realize that this is exactly what I will have to do if I have the surgery. I have only just begun to seriously think about WLS. This forum and all the people here sharing their journeys is amazing. I'm so glad I found you Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using the BariatricPal App
