  1. I'm keeping mine relatively quiet. Not lying, but not advertising since I got some negative reactions as well. Someone started a FaceBook group that doesn't reference "Bariatric" or anything. It's closed but not secret, so it's not totally foolproof in terms of privacy. If someone is really nosy, they might ask you or try to join themselves. It's called "March 2017 Support and Advice Group" I think, check it out and join if you think it's vague enough
  2. I don't know about IG (I'm a follower, not a poster), but someone started a FaceBook group called "March 2017 Advice and Support Group" if you want to join.
  3. It isn't secret, just closed. But it doesn't have any reference to "Bariatric, surgery, sleeve", etc in the title, which I appreciate. I'm not hiding the fact that I'm having surgery, but I'm not exactly advertising it either!
  4. I, too, am riding the emotional rollercoaster. Mostly excited though! And grateful that my pre-op diet is only 5 days of 1000 calories followed by 3 days of liquids. I don't know how people do weeks of liquids only!
  5. I was told I would be cleared at my 10 day appointment. I live alone and I refuse to ask someone to leave work to drive me to that appt (I'm way too independent and stubborn). If I feel okay and am off pain meds I may be a rebel and drive before cleared. 10 days seems crazy, especially when everyone else pretty much has the "after pain meds" rule.
  6. Hi everyone! I had my pre-op class yesterday and learned so much. I knew people struggled to get Protein shakes down, so they recommend making your own with a scoop of powder in only 4-5 oz water/milk. Or adding Protein Powder to the pre-made varieties so you can spread them out in multiple smaller volume meals without missing your protein target. So simple and I was surprised I hadn't heard that trick yet. Or maybe it's obvious and I just didn't think of it. Thought I'd share!
  7. It took almost 3 weeks to submit between my doctor and surgeon. However it only took about 3 business days to get approved after that.
  8. March 9! Pre-surgical class is Tuesday so I'm trying not to get too into prepping until I get those details.
  9. March 9th!! And yes, I was never into YouTube until I started researching this. So informative!

  11. I'm getting VSG with Dr. Roberts! Did you have a good experience with MBI overall? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Hi everyone! I joined the Group Me thing. My 6 months are done in early Jan so I'm hoping for a surgery date in late Jan or early Feb. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I am not at that point yet, but my surgeon said the goal of the pre-op diet was to shrink the liver and lose "around 5 lbs". Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Thank you for this. I'm a pre-op Abby (diff spelling) and this summarizes my fears so well. The fears won't change my decision, but I can foresee the some of these emotional challenges down the road. I highly recommend a podcast for anyone pre-op, post-op, and even family and friends who don't understand what we experience every day..."Tell Me I'm Fat" from This American Life. Thanks for this little piece of reality! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I am going through Michigan Bariatric Institute at St Mary's in Livonia. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I am in MI with BCN. I'm still in my 6 month supervised diet and have the same fear, but the patient coordinator at my surgeon's office said she's never had any issues with BCN. As long as the doctor fills out the paperwork completely (i.e. More than one word answers), you should be okay. Good luck! I'd love to hear how your approval process goes! 17. Welcome! I'm new here as well. My consult with the surgeon was today but I started my physician supervised diet in early July. If all goes well, I should have surgery in February. I'm so impatient because I took a long time to do my research and make my decision - now I want it done! It was nice to talk to the support staff who reassured me that my insurance rarely denies people if they've completed the six month diet correctly. Time will fly, I'm sure...at least I hope Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
