I am so sorry to hear about this my mom had colon cancer and she is still here. I know it's devastating and will take a blow at you. But please do not give up on you sis. You are doing this because you decided to live. I'm not being insensitive I'm encouraging you to press and enjoy this time with her. Look at uplifting messages, testimonies and stories that shares how they over came that stage of cancer. Re focus on life and not death sentence!!! You're reaction is real and it's not wrong however you have awareness and go in and eat how much you like just try to eat whole foods. You've come to far to give up I'm sure your mommy will not want this. She wants her baby girl to be all that she can be, she does not want to be the cause of your demise. Her diet will change and that's a good thing , you can show her what you've learned thus far. I'm praying for you and your family ! Stay encouraged , don't give up!

Hey, Ella37 - it's going to be okay. My mom was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer last July. It hit me pretty hard, but i chose to get the surgery BECAUSE of it. I want to improve my lifestyle not onlu for me, but for her, so that I can have the strength and energy it takes to care for her. And believe me, you WILL need the energy. I haven't even had my surgery date given to me yet, but i knownit will absolutely help me to have the energy to help her out when she most needs it. Remember, you want to be healthy.... you want to be here to help her, and you can't do it if you're sick..... wishing you all the best of luck. So very sorry to hear about your mom. You guys can get through this!!

    Jenny9541
I went for my 4wk follow up today, I was discouraged about not losing weight also. To start, I weighed 256lbs when I went in for surgery, I weighed 265 the day I went home. I weighed 254 at 2 wk check up. Today I weighed 250 at my 4 wk. doc & are thinking part of the problems stem from Water pills I was taking prior to surgery. I had not taken them since that time. I had swelling in my leg & the rest of my body, began again almost a week ago. I am back on the Water pill as of today. I am thinking some of my problem related to the water/edema I have. It is not the only thing I am dealing with but explains a lot. I was also told I need to try increasing my exercise. I am limited in my ability to exercise by my back injury. So my plan is to try swimming. Anyway, I hope this helps, if nothing else you are not alone!! . Good luck to you.

@@ma08 sorry guys, long post, what else is new - get a glass of water!!!
this year i will be celebrating my 5th year sleeve surgiversary
holy moly - time really does fly
i lost 100s of lbs over the years
    bully for me LOL
maintenance is very hard after you've lost weight the "regular way"
i could never keep the weight off - that's why i decided on WLS
maintenance after sleeve (or any other WLS) can be harder for some (me)
restriction is probably/almost non existent by now (for me)
i need to know when to stop eating
main issue - i can't graze - have prob with that at times
    i'm not perfect!!! Well actuallly
maintenance isn't always easy (in my case)
eating is now mainly mind over matter
i don't measure much anymore - i eat same stuff a lot, so i know portions
I must eat carefully, moderation, drink 64+ oz of Water, eat lots of Protein etc etc etc
butttt, that's how the world is supposed to eat!!!
most "normal" OP don't follow the above - that's why they are heavy, morbidly obese!!!
quantity of obese people is unfortunately a never ending story
    Forever and a day...........
I must continue following the above plus more to maintain my weight
everyone in the world should follow rules too
but - i can't take care of the worlds' problems - just mine
walk, talk, chew gum, rub my tummy at the same time!!!
    leap tall buildings too!! LOL
could never do these things before !!!
i never realized how sad i was at times, til i found joy
    sounds pretty sad
that's my story and i'm stickin' to it!!!
did i "kindof" answer your question how life continues after 5 years with sleeve
i am healthy and happy - enjoying life
    kathy
    congrats to me!!!!

I had my surgery on the 11th and today the 14th I am back to work!! The post-op diet isn't all that bad!! I see food everywhere I turn and it takes a lot of will power not pick a chip out of my daughter's hand and eat it, but I just go grab a popcicle and eat that instead!! I get full and the urge to eat anything else goes away!! But hang in there, if I can do it, you can do it!! I have no will power whatsoever, but I am not going through this just to throw it all away!!

I was in the hospital from a Wednesday to that Friday. My Surgeon saw me in the hospital once after Surgery and called me once at the hospital. I LOVE my Surgeon. I'm sorry for your bad experience, hopefully you can either find a new surgeon or get better care from your current surgeon.

That's nuts. I know most of us have a love/hate relationship with medical insurance most of the time, but I am certainly thankful for mine. I'm freaked out enough about my surgery next week when I stay the night after. I can't imagine having to go home a few hours later.

Kind of boggles the mind, really.

TinyLittleFracture, an afterthought. If your overall experience with this surgeon has been good, I would rethink finding another doctor and telling your friend how you were unhappy after surgery. I would make an immediate appointment with him and tell him exactly how you feel. It might make a complete difference. I once did this with an obnoxious orthopedic surgeon, and even though it did not change my mind about him, I at least let him know how obnoxious I thought he was. It gave me saris faction listening to his feeble apology.

I was in and out of the hospital within 8 hours with no problem, a fast discharge, no dressings, just 3 small pieces of tape. I did not see the surgeon after surgery because he is very busy operating certain days of the week, back to back. If I had fever after any surgery I would be at the ER for precautionary reasons! Sometimes we all need to follow our gut instincts when we feel something is wrong. I hope you feel better soon. Our surgeon actually was told by us to get us in and out quickly before we got staph infection or MRSA. Good luck.

You had a terrible experience with a terrible surgeon (at least bedside manner) and terrible communication from the hospital. I would encourage your friend to either make it perfectly clear what kind of care and aftercare she is expecting from her surgeon and to clearly communicate those concerns, and if she still feels too uncomfortable after your experience to find another surgeon elsewhere. Yes, it may delay things a bit, but if she's wanting a more positive experience than what you had, it's worth the delay.

I am so sorry you are experiencing such distress. Many people go through a period of regret right after surgery for a variety of reasons: hormonal fluctuations, the shock of surgery on the system, the fact that you cannot use food to regulate moods and emotions, etc.
I would suggest that this is a good opportunity to look for a good counselor or therapist to help you learn to cope in a healthy way. See if the person who did your psych clearance can see you or refer you to someone.
Whether you want to or not, you cannot turn back the clock and change what happened. The good news is that you have no choice but to move forward: you get to decide how well you follow your program and learn to make the most of this opportunity.
