  1. You are a real inspiration. I should have my surgery in about 4-6 weeks. I am a little taller and a little heavier than you (when you started). It's great to see what you have been able to accomplish. Thank you.

      Thank you for the nice message! This journey has changed my life in ways that I didn't really think possible in the beginning. My best advice is to work hard and never sell yourself short. You can do anything you want if you apply yourself and work hard enough for it.

  2. I had a huge NSV moment. I can now fit into a size 12. A size 12. I am soo hype. Also, I decided to try that hair wax stuff and I made my hair purple. 

    Also, I forgot to post on Face 2 Face Friday.

  4. Since this journey, even people at work are treating me differently. People used to never ask me to do physical activities and in the last 2 days, I have been asked to the following:

    1) Join the companies 5K marathon team for next year

    2) Join the companies Friday Night Bike Ride through Prospect Park

    3) Even joining a kickboxing class with another employee

    It just blows my mind that people invite me to things like this. I am soo excited to try new things that I would have been afraid to do. 

  5. This weekend I went shopping for clothes after yet another purge of the closet. I've gone from a 3XL shirt and 44 pants to a Large shirt and 34 pants! It still feels surreal. I'm 18 lbs from my goal weight and 4 lbs from moving from the obese category to "overweight." I'm down 70 lbs from my 10/16/17 surgery date, and 114 lbs down overall in a year.

  6. I'm in month 2 of my 6 month required medically supervised weight loss.  Only mildly obsessed with reading everything I can find about WLS, usually people's questions, concerns and experiences here on BariatricPal.

      Get started. Read. Learn. Work on changing your relationship with food. My six month pre-op diet program was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It laid the foundation for my great success in this journey!

  7. This wonderful, amazing woman has guided me, encouraged me, prevented me from giving up and from looking stupid at the gym (ex. decline sit-ups)🤣😹😂. The saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Well it takes a village to achieve the hardest goals ever. I am so blessed to have so many people like her in my life.

  8. Tomorrow. It's tomorrow and I am terrified. (I'm also incredibly excited, but right now terrified is winning the day.)

    As of last night, I've lost 12 pounds on the pre-op diet. Literally a pound a day. How does that even happen?

    I'm bummed that we couldn't have a nice Valentine's Day dinner last night. R ate before I got home; I had some tomatoes. 

    I'm afraid of pain. That's mostly it; I'm afraid of pain. And, of course, of something going wrong during surgery. But mostly pain.

      I can't settle your nerves, no one can, in fact, but, trust me, nothing about it is as bad as you imagine it to be. I was the same way. Wishing you the best! Optimize this tool and your life will change exponentially.

  9. I was cleaning out one of my tubs and I found a book that I used at the beginning of my journey  (2016) to track. On the first page, I found a note that I had left myself.

    I remember being that girl. I remember being so lonely and unhappy. I am so proud that I was able to check off every one of the stars. It is now time to set new goals!!!:D

  10. Today I finally hit 100 pounds lost since my highest weight! I'm pretty stoked, and hoping I can get to goal weight by the time of my one-year surgiversary.

How can I lose half my weight I am 52 years old I have arthritis I have COPD I have high blood pressure I have carpal tunnel and I get tired when I walk and it hurts to be heavy and I'm only 5 3 what can I do to get gastric bypass or anything to help me to eat less and don't cost me anything because I don't have any money all I have is a partnership health card from the government so help me and my daughter we weigh the same thing and we are the same height so what kind of help can we get to help us get our weight off so that I can be here for my grandchildren and she can be here for children their children I only two and three years old my last child 13 years old I want to be around from my family

      I weighed 397 when I started this journey in March 2016. Today I weigh around 177. I lost more than half of my body weight. You can do it, too if you want it badly enough. Wishing you the best.

  12. I went to my monthly support meeting yesterday and got "yelled" at.
    They think I'm too rigged with tracking my food, and I'm not eating enough carbs. Not that I should overload with carbs, but I should have more in the morning, and continue to eat a lot less of them in the afternoon and evening.

    As for tracking my food, they think I can't continue like I do, and think at one point it'll be what makes me gain weight again. That I'm not on a diet, and that I should build a normal relationship with food.

      Tracking and limiting carbs have been the keys to my success. And I've lost 217 pounds and am at goal one year post-op after starting at nearly 400 pounds. I'd tell them to bite me and do what you know works for you.

  13. This weekend I purchased my first high fashion designer dress, that was not on clearance. Since I am kinda weight stable I decided to treat myself. I love clothing and I have always wanted to own a high end designer dress but I obviously I could never fit them before. It feels so good to go into a luxury store and have the sales people cater to your every whim. I am enjoying playing dress up with my new body so much!

      Good for you!! I wouldn't buy nicer clothes (like Ralph Lauren shirts with the polo horse) when I was heavy, almost as a punishment to myself. I'll buy them up now. Enjoy!

  14. The waiting is the hardest part... i am having a bit of luck losing during this 6 month medically supervised weight loss, and that's great but... i just want all this to be over, to have my surgery done and my post op life started... i feel like i am stuck in limbo waiting... anyone else??...

      I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during my six month pre-op diet program. It was the best thing that happened to me. I completely re-defined my relationship with food before the surgery, and lost so much weight that post-op life was much, much easier. If you are losing, keep at it. You will thank yourself later for the hard work on the front end. Even now at 6'0", 185 pounds, I still think that if I hadn't done all of the pre-op work, I'd be at 285. It always makes me extra thankful for taking that approach.

  15. Yesterday was 3 months post-op. I have lost 35 lbs since my surgery and 82 lbs since August of last year. I am so happy that I decided to do this for myself. I am healthier than I have been in years and I feel amazing.

    I was eating a low carb diet since December of last year and recently decided to transition to a whole foods plant based diet after reading the book Proteinaholic and  doing my own research. I have an incredible support system for this change as my circle of friends from church are all vegans/vegetarians. At this point my daily carb consumption has gone from 30g to about 55-70g and my protein has dropped from 80-85 down to 50-55. My blood sugar control has remained perfect despite the increase in complex carbs. I continue to avoid sugar, white flour, bread, white rice, and pasta. 

    My weight loss has actually picked up this past week, but this may just be a coincidence. I feel really good. The only slight negative I can note is am a little more drained after a run and have been unable to run my long distance of 3 miles yet. I have been sticking to 2-2.5 miles for now. I think my body is still adjusting to the change. 

    I am going to post my photo because a couple of people have requested before and after pics.  It is hard looking back, but it does help show us just how far we have come and what a difference a year can make.

      Update. 186 this morning. I must be in one of my loss periods. It snuck up on me. 2 pounds til normal BMI now!! 6 pounds til goal!

      I really could stop now. While I can lose 7 more pounds, I don't really need to. But I sat 180 as a goal at the beginning, so I am going to see it through.

      I have been working to increase my calories steadily over this entire journey. I am between 1700-1800 on an average day now with a maintenance goal of 2000-2100. When I get there, I'll probably inch my carbs up a little, but I can't imagine ever letting them go over 50 on an average day. I'm planning to avoid pasta, rice, bread, and sugar at all times. It's all too much of a slippery slope for me. (And frankly, I am perfectly contented eating like I do.)

      In fact, I have been flirting with maintenance a little bit already. Especially on days that I go out and have drinks. I still eat as I would; therefore, my calories are a little higher, and the carbs are a little higher because of the wine, and I never have one issue. That is kind of good to know.

  19. I was soooo jealous of the people in my support group. I was really like why do I not look like them and why am I not losing like they are? Then I did a side by side comparison for support group and noticed it. I really could not believe the difference. Sometimes we truly have to look backwards to see how far we have come. I never liked comparing myself to others but I always felt a little way about people reaching their goals faster then me. However, after this picture, I will never feel that way again. I am proud of my success and how far I have come. Granted I am starting to notice lose skin, but I will take that over being unable to jog up the steps or run across the street. 

    After reaching the goal of 200 lbs (finally dang I thought I would never get there lol). I went to the Spa. I was soo proud of myself and how I looked. I even got myself a Male Masseuse. He even complimented me on how soft my skin was and how well hydrated it looked. I felt so pretty with my facial and nails done. I did not worry if the bed was going to hold my weight or if I was going to fit on it. I fit just fine. 

    Afterwards me and my mom went to Buffalo Wild Wings (Her favorite Spot). I was able to fit into the booth without having to suck my tummy in, lift it up or push it down. I looked at my mom and I said, "Mom I fit!! I really fit!!" She started laughing at me. The Waitress was really confused. My mom told her, "My annoying daughter lost over 60 lbs and now can fit in the booth..sooo...this is an important moment for her." 

    Went to visit my Dad and he was shocked to hug me. (Note: My Dad lost a lot of his eyesight to Diabetes and he now takes very good care of himself. He was one of the reasons why I wanted to change). He said, "Moocha!! I wrap my arms around you now!!" I said, "Daddy so can I lol !!". We spent hours talking about Game of Thrones and how much weight we have lost. My dad used to weigh almost 385 lbs. He now weighs 220 lbs (he did this by going vegan and working out). I am very proud of him. It has taken him 2 years but he never gave up. The man is amazing.

  20. My clothes have been hanging off and baggy. I decided to just suck it up and buy a few shirts and two pairs of jeans today. I fit into a size 16 jeans. I was a size 22!!! I fit into a size Medium shirt. A MEDIUM!!! From a 2XL - 3XL to Medium. OMG!!! YES.

  21. So I've been playing around with my eating schedule and decided yesterday that I was going to increase my meals from 5x a day to 6x a day with smaller portions. I went from 4x a day to 5x a day a few weeks ago, and it went well, but I was wondering if it might be better for me to constantly be eating, even if it is smaller amounts.

    Today's the first day I'm trying it out, and I'm noticing something very strange. Even though I'm eating smaller meals, today I'm feeling MORE restriction from my sleeve. I don't know what it is... Is there a "sweet spot" where if you eat past it your stomach goes numb? I know it usually takes me a long time to feel my restriction after I've eaten, about 45minutes or so.  Anyway, I've been eating every 2hrs and for the entire day today I've been feeling full.

    It's weird. I'm coming up on 7weeks out and I'm still learning how my sleeve works.

      I've eaten 7-8 meals about 2 hours apart all along. It has been a good strategy for me. This lets me focus on eating specific amounts, and not until I am "full." I know that I will have another meal right around the corner...

  22. I have a new-found respect for cottage cheese. 4oz is 100cals and 15grams of protein. Super filling for my sleeve too!

      Even at 9 months post-op, I eat 4 oz of cottage cheese with 1 T of sugar-free strawberry preserves twice per day. That is 12 of my 20 carbs per day. I love it!

  24. So 31 years ago today I married my best friend and we are still as in love today as we were back then. We have had our ups and downs as all couples do, but I wouldn't trade my dh for anything or anyone. We are opposites in so many ways, but we bring out the best in each other. I am missing him tonight since he is away, and Saturday can't come soon enough. 

  25. Hi all. I'm almost two weeks out post gastric sleeve. Anyone from Louisiana here?
