It gets better, but slowly. I am at week 10 and I still have struggles, but they are less and less. In the meantime, as the payoff for my struggles, I have lost 78 pounds. I can stand up without exhaustion and walk every day on my treadmill and people don't look at me like I'm an alien anymore. So it's worth it.

Those people who say this is the "easy way out", just don't know. Keep on keeping on!

I've started to notice people, particularly males, acting differently toward me. Going out of their way to help me. Being asked out on dates. I find it very bizarre. This is something I hoped would happen, but now that it has begun, I realize I have exactly zero experience at handling it.
I have never been thin. I used my fat as a literal barrier to keep from forming relationships.
So, I suppose I would appreciate advice from those who are/were in a similar situation. Does it ever get comfortable? How do you reject someone in as nice a way as possible? How do you not accidentally flirt?

I started at a 53 BMI. I never considered the bypass as I felt that was far too invasive. I feel like the sleeve was the right move for me as it allowed me a chance to diet and exercise that I never had without the restriction. Time will tell if it was the right choice. I may never lose "all" my weight, but I wanted to lose enough of it to have a chance to live a little bit longer and healthier.

I only wish I could eat them. My Dr explained it this way...I don't have an allergy to them because they don't cause hives or breathing problems. But I have an aversion to them. I haven't been able to eat them even before my RNY, unless I wanted to get sick to my tummy bad. Like I said I wish I could eat them because they have so much Protein. Have a great day.

Even sedentary workers who sat in chairs all day (secretaries, lawyers, office receptionists, court reporters, librarians) were normal-weight and not obese back in the 'good old' days.
Our genes and body habitus didn't suddenly go from lean to fat in the span of less than a generation because of the changing nature of our work.
In addition, the leanest people in today's society are sedentary workers who sit behind a computer for 8 to 10 hours a day (read: Wall Street investment bankers, attorneys, social workers, administrators, financial analysts, executive secretaries).
People with the most weight problems today are those with physical, laborious jobs (read: lumberjacks, construction workers, farm workers, steel workers, machine operators).
The difference is that a typical investment banker won't eat Kraft macaroni/cheese for dinner tonight, and a typical machine operator isn't eating herbed arugula greens with lamb chops this evening.
Diet is Batman (90%), and physical activity is Robin (10%)...

gwbicster got a reaction from Julie norton in Is Constant Vomiting Normal ☹️?
I have vomited a few times when I mess up. It's real easy to mess up, as my new stomach is so sensitive that sometimes an extra half ounce of food is enough to do the trick. I need to eat SLOW and listen to my body- it always "tells" me.

I don't want to jinx myself but it's been about 3 weeks since the last time I've "messed up". Hopefully the more I go on, the better I will get at avoiding this.

The other thing is, it's not really what I would call vomiting, I'd call it more "spitting up". It's not nearly as violent as it was pre-surgery. First your body produces lots of mucus to "get you ready" for what's about to happen. And then when it's time, it feels like whatever is overflowing the pouch comes up and almost "drops out" of the esophogus. No heaving and I don't think my stomach ever completely empties.

I feel the same about food coming up There is no smell. It is just undigested food still in my throat. And it slides out easily and I feel much better.
Please don't worry about the stranger issues that sometimes come.... (both ends can react). The trade off of shedding lots of weight and KEEPING the pounds off really made the it well worth it. Best of luck

gwbicster got a reaction from ukeka22 in How much weight did everyone loss within the first month???
You're doing great! There's something called the "third week stall" that almost all of us go through- please don't let it get you down. Weight loss is not linear and this is the first of many stalls you will likely encounter.

Also, try not to compare yourself to others- everyone loses at their own pace, men lose faster than women, very obese people lose faster than lightweights, etc.

As someone else on here likes to continually point out- when is the last time you lost 23 pounds in a month? Never?

    Congratulations on your success.

I agree with every single thing you said regarding the pros and cons. And although I don't look NEARLY as good as you, I look a lot better (or at least less bad). But I didn't do this for appearance. I know I have added several years to my life because of my decision. Yes I struggle- we all do. But the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

If you are still trying to make up your mind, read this young lady's post and take it to heart- I completely agree with her!

As Dr. Weiner says, Protein drinks although essential in certain phases of the surgery, are still PROCESSED foods. He advises his patients to get off of them ASAP. I am still using them but much less (I limit to one or two a day).

I just bought 108 (big sale at costco using my Mom's account). I will be drinking them all. Once they are gone, I hope to be to the point where I don't need them.

you realize your surgery-day weight is like 25lbs off from my GOAL WEIGHT, right?
in other words, you are a lightweight, and still losing about 15lbs/month pace. when you see people on here dropping 20-30lbs a month after surgery, those are typically young white males who started at like 400lbs (btw - i'm not being racist, or misogynist, or ageist. the fact is, surgery works worse for the older, the black, and the ladies). stop comparing yourself to that. for your low beginning weight, you are losing weight very very rapidly.
stalls are normal, healthy, and necessary. just chill. DON'T ramp up exercise any more than you are. or drop your calories. that will be counter-productive. your body will probably start to conserve even more. keep doing exactly as you have been and wait it out.
btw - "goals", like the 200lb by Oct 31 one you set, are stupid. your body couldn't know or care less about what arbitrary number you mind has come up with. so stop that noise too. it's like you are trying to come up with a way to be unhappy. when you should be over the moon right now. practice acceptance.
