So my insurance approved me for sleeve surgery on 12/07 and I still do not have a surgery date scheduled. I just called my insurance on a whim to check the status and found out I was approved 2 days ago, but the doctor's office hasn't called me yet to schedule surgery. I'm still not 100% sure if I want to go through with it. I need to lose 100-110#. I have sleep apnea but no other health issues. In fact I'm extremely healthy! The reason I even began looking into surgery was to be proactive before the health problems start because of my weight. I don't know how to decide if I should go through with surgery or not! It really isn't a big deal, you go to sleep and wake up in recovery. Think of it this way, even if your heart stopped during surgery they would be able to start it up again. They have all the equipment they need right there.Guess I just need comforting thoughts like that. Only surgery in ever had was wisdom teeth...but that doesn't really count. That's my exact fear, I have no health problems and I'm young .. I mentioned to my doctor he said I will be fine.. Think of old heart patients with a list of health problems and they come out so I'll be s breeze.. I'm still on the fence.. Thank you for sharing! I went through with all the requirements and found I am in great health so I really want to get rid of these extra 100# and hopefully say goodbye to my sleep apnea. But as I sit here waiting for the insurance approval or denial I am terrified that I won't go through with it. Part of me hopes they deny it, even though I worked hard to get this far in the process. I've never had surgery and the being out under is the only thing that really scares me. I know I can handle everything that will come my way after the surgery. You are so strong and encouraging. I'm getting close to having all my appointments completed and getting ready to submit to insurance. When I started out I wanted sleeve but my surgeon told me not to rule out bypass, that I should do well with either. So now I'm having a hard time deciding.
