    Am I Stretching It?

Honey I think your bigger problem is the caloric/carb intake. There is an app/website called myfitnesspal. Start using it so that you can see how much calories, Protein & carbs you are eating. You will be very surprised as to what you are putting in your body. Also, why not switch from trail mix to almonds? They are very high in protein and while some nuts are healthy, some are mostly fat. Good luck. Also I don't think a 1-2lb loss per week is all that bad. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Approved....

Congratulations! That's really freaking awesome!! I can't believe how fast it went for you! Wow! What insurance do you have? Don't forget to take your measurements and before pics! Gah how exciting. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling so good.

Yay! That's really awesome! You mean you don't have an array of sizes hoarded in your closet ? Jk. Have fun shopping. I would look for stuff at Ross or Marshalls or TJ Maxx or even resale shops since you're going to be going thru your clothes so fast. You'll probably stay in one size 3-4 weeks. Have fun!! Gout due to weight?

It has been really super hot and I have been slightly dehydrated (I can tell by my pee). Maybe that's part of the problem as well. Idk but today it feels okay, not as bad as last night. I couldn't even sleep. Every time I tossed and turned I woke up from the pain.
  5. Hi. Have any of you experienced Gout due to your weight? I've had pain before in my toes but I assumed it was because I was constantly cracking them. I stopped cracking them months ago and since Sunday night my toes on my right foot have been hurting so badly! I mentioned it to my girlfriend and all I could describe the pain as is arthritic. I did what any sane person would do and I googled my symptoms. Something came up about Gout & flare ups being caused by eating foods that contain too much uric acid. This weekend we had poke Saturday and Sunday. I had tuna both times. I'm wondering if that caused me to be in pain. It makes sense anyway. It also mentioned it has to do with being over weight. I've only had this problem a few times but this time the pain is almost unbearable. I am a mess! I'm laying here toes hurt and sciatica pain in my opposite leg and having trouble sleeping lol.

    NSV! Body measurements

Feeling better makes it all worth it! I am being patient. I know I have a long way up hill right now. I'm surprisingly patient. lol. I'm trying to convince my sister to do this with me but I think she doesn't think she will lose much. I hope she changes her mind. It would be nice to have someone close to go thru this with.
  7. From what I've read liquid diets are needed for your liver to repair before surgery. Maybe the doctor didn't see anything wrong with her liver and that's why they didn't suggest a liquid diet. Juicing is good just to get your immunity on point and give yourself a little cleanse. I would ask your surgeon tho. Just to be on the safe side. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Gout due to weight?

I have had both alcohol and high uric acid foods this weekend. I am going to try the heating pad while I'm sitting at my desk today at work. I can't stand the pain and I still woke up with it today. I am prediabetic, so idk if it's that. I guess it could be. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    This feels like forever

I haven't even seen my doctor yet. Lol. Talk about long process. I have Kaiser and it sounds like I will deal with much of the same as they have required classes that take 3 months. I was put off by it at first but I think I will be ok. I have the holidays in between to keep me busy. Hopefully I can get surgery in the beginning of next year. NSV! Body measurements

Congrats! Those are awesome numbers!! It's likely you've lost at least 43". I just measured myself this weekend to see where I'm at (I haven't even seen my doctor yet about a referral). I cried. I've never been this big. Or maybe I was but I never had a reason to measure myself. I expected I had a 42" waist. My waist is 50"! 50! I couldn't believe it. I didn't think about measuring my calves of chest though. And I also measured my neck lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Look, sit down and write down every single time in your life where you can remember your weight/diets/serious situations that may have affected your weight. Lay it all out and really think about how you gained the weight back or why? What was your thinnest weight? How did you gain that weight? I have 38 entries. I am 41. I am done with this cycle. The last eating plan I tried was excellent. I had some success but here I am again and I'm at my HW now. Bariatric surgery is not a permanent solution. It will however help you get the pounds off and get you healthier. You will still have to work hard at maintaining and keeping yourself on check. But if you you're positive you can go at it on your own then more power to you! No one can make this decision but yourself. Maybe postpone it and see where you are in three months or six months. Then make your decision. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Thank you for your service! I too have Tricare prime. My ex and I separated but we never divorced so when he passed away I kept it for the kids. I have my own insurance thru work but I still stayed on with Tricare. I was under the impression you had to do a six month physician documented diet before they refer you to your surgeon. Do you think it's different for different parts of the country? I live in So. Cal. I see my doctor this Friday so I'm asking for a referral to a VSG surgeon but I do have Kaiser and I'm not sure what they will tell me. I'm glad that I have a back up insurance tho . Coffee/mochas/etc..

Inkdcosmoqueen did you have to get used to the taste before WLS? I have taken it in the past and I just can't get used to the taste lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Coffee/mochas/etc..

Starbucks sugar free products are made with Splenda. Splenda products are extremely poisonous to your body. I know coffee can be really bitter when not sweetened and sugar is a no no right now. Have you considered using stevia? I know it's not the easiest taste to get used to but I would rather use stevia than deal with the health complications of Splenda. Here is a good article in regards to sweeteners after bariatric surgery. http://www.healthcentral.com/obesity/c/276918/151099/sweeteners-life/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Ugh. No filter family! >:(

I am still in the researching phase, if you wanna call it that lol, and I already know my family will have something to say about the WLS if I do get approved for it. I really don't want to tell anyone about it bc I don't want to hear them be negative/critical about it. I guess I will just deal with it when the time comes haha. Noobie.

Thank you Cervidae! I was always really self conscious about what everyone would say. I have just recently gotten comfortable with being a big girl but honestly I can't deal with all the added health issues. And I decided that if people aren't dealing with my issues then they have no say in my decisions. As a preparation, I sat down and wrote down my weight from the age of 13 to now, all the diets, all the losses and gains....it's really just sad how many times I've gone down this road and end up in the same place every single time. My girlfriend is completely supportive and that's all that matters to me. No one else knows my struggle like she does and when I brought it up a few weeks ago, fully expecting her to give me the "that's the easy way out" speech, she simply said, if it will help you feel better, then you should do it. I was gonna do it regardless lol but of course I wanted to talk it over with her. I felt so much better knowing that at least she was on my side even if other people won't be. I almost don't want to tell anyone lol. Anyway, I don't know how to add friends on here! Haha. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hi guys. I'm really enjoying reading your posts. I've finally made the decision to set aside my fears and go for VSG surgery. I see my doctor this week so hopefully she gets the ball rolling for me. I've been doing a lot of research but some of the info on line seems outdated. Does anyone here have Kaiser Orange County (CA)? I'm wondering if they still require the options classes and how long the process takes from initial visit to your PCM, to surgery date, if you keep all your appointments. Also I have this fear that she will tell me no for some reason lol. I'm a new patient to her and I rarely go to the doc so there isn't many records of my weight in the last 5 years, Kaisers website says they require you to be overweight for 3 of the last 5 years, which I have been. Idk I guess I'm just really hopeful and I don't want her to turn me down. I'm currently at my heaviest weight of 241 (I'm 5'4"). My BMI is 40.1. I guess my worry stems from years of people telling me I am "not big enough to have bariatric surgery" (even though I've bounced around from 200-241 most of my adult years) & "bariatric surgery is an easy fix" and "you can lose the weight naturally". I guess I just need reassurance lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    May 24 Surgery Day

Thank you. Do you or anyone you know that has been thru this process have Kaiser? I'm double insured but Kaiser is my main insurance. I know what to expect with Tricare but I don't know anyone with Kaiser that has gone thru WLS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  21. Depending on how you feel afterwards, maybe you can rent a wheel chair? Idk just a thought. It would be worth looking into. But who knows what your body will feel like after surgery. I know some people don't experience much pain while others do. I guess it depends on how you feel but I couldn't imagine being able to go for even light sight seeing walk. San Fran has a lot of hills and up hill/down hill walking. Also keep in mind your doctor may have better advice . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    May 24 Surgery Day

@ you look great! I think you'll be ok . I haven't started my process yet, but I was wondering how long you have to be off work for? Just curious. I'm asking my doctor for a referral for a VSG surgeon this week. I know the process will take a good 6 months or so before the actual surgery but I'm just wondering about the time off work.
