I had the VSG surgery yesterday Aug 30th, Everything went well, I woke up feeling pretty good except for the incisions. I've been sipping Water and eating small amounts of Jello. Every once in a while I have a little spasm in my stomach, and very minimal gas pains.

A new beginning is just ahead.
It's one that can be lots of fun.
The humorous moments started right away for me, too.
For a brief moment......as I woke up from surgery......I thought I'd gone on to a happy place.
My surgeon had three really attractive female med students in the room with him at all my final pre-op appointments. They were there in my room as I woke up. One of them.....absolutely stunning.....spoke as she smiled. I thought I was being attended by angels, lol.
At the two month point, my son demanded that get back to grilling. He said he was tired of frozen pizzas, fast food and microwave meals. I hit the shower, got dressed and went to the grocery store. I was wearing some Under Armour long gym pants. Evidently the weight of my car keys and wallet was enough to pull down my baggy UA pants while I was walking through the store. By down....I mean all the way down.....around my ankles while pushing the cart.
    Funny times are ahead.
Enjoy yourself and make the most of getting lean and fit.

What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe

You can't feel a difference. The only reason you will really notice that you no longer have most of your stomach is because the first week or two you feel kind of blah, and then after that for a few months you burp a lot, which is a lovely reminder that you put too much into your small stomach. Past that though, it's not like cutting off an arm- your stomach and organs don't have the same type of sensory tissue as other parts of your body, so when you cut one of them out, you only feel the pain of the entry wounds for the surgical instruments rather than the actual wound to your stomach.

I ditto what the other's have said.....I feel completely normal. The only time anything is any different is when I eat....and then it's only because I fill up so quickly. It's not like I feel like I'd like to eat more but can't....it's wonderful! I'm satisfied! I guess it also feels a little different when I drink and sometimes my stomach gets really gurgley.....but that doesn't usually last long and it's not unpleasant just different.

I had my VSG in June, and the only way I can tell that my stomach is mostly gone is when I eat, since my capacity is so reduced. I never had any sense of something being gone or missing from my abdomen, and I had virtually no pain other than the incisions themselves.

I just finished reading this thread and WOW, what a wild ride this was!
I know quite a few people who have had WLS. Most recently the sleeve but the ones who had it years ago had the bypass. I know at least a couple of them 100% regret the surgery even now, MANY years later (and when I say many, I mean MANY... one women had the surgery about 11 years ago). So is it possible to regret WLS? Yeah, I believe it is. Some people regret it right after surgery and then change their minds over time. Some people don't. The OP seems convinced she will never not regret it. Well I'm not her, who am I to say she's wrong? I hope she doesn't always regret it, but that's not my call to make.
As one who hasn't yet had surgery I want to read about both the good and the bad. Threads telling about complications and regrets are just as valuable as threads telling how awesome and life changing WLS is. So for that, thank you for this thread.
Also thank you for the entertainment. This was a hell of a read.

You can do it! I think most of us are food addicts and may not necessarily realize it. During the past 6 days of post-op (sleeved on 8/18), I have learned that I am a food addict. I started my food fast on 8/4 at 415 pounds. have lost 41 pounds (currently 374pounds) in less than 3 weeks. It hasn't been easy, but the benefits I'm already getting in both health and appearance are slowly taking the place of the comfort that food gave me. Today is the first day I really thought about cheating. The urge was very strong, but I fought it...and won! It was a big deal for me and I'm so happy that I didn't give in. Food has a power over most of, if not all of us. Personally, that makes me mad and now I have a tool to fight back! Stay strong and keep the faith. For those regretting it, give yourself a chance to become free and live the life you deserve! The happiness you get from a cheeseburger will pale in comparison to looking and feeling better about yourself. I know it's tough, but you can do it!!
I've attached a picture of my face from last month and a pic that I took today. It helps me so much to see these results. I still have a long way to go, but I have faith in myself that I can and WILL do it! You guys that are struggling can too! Stay strong and don't let food have control over you. Remember, you're the boss of your own body! Don't let food bully you!

I have been really open about my surgery. Most people don't think I am big enough for it, as I am young, tall, and "only" was BMI 40. Anyone who has bought up concerns was informed that it took a lot of thinking and that I have decided this was the best decision for my health. I haven't gotten any "easy ways," but if I do and I like the person I plan a short explanation. If it's a random person who says something, I will thank them for their input and move on. People aren't worth the drama they try to stir up.

If sacrificing 75% of your stomach, permanently altering both your capacity for and tolerances of foods is easy. If doing something STRICTLY FOR YOURSELF and your health, despite the ignorance of others is easy. If giving up the ability to consume what was a normal meal and Permanently Changing not just what you should eat, but what you CAN eat is easy.

My doctor told me that I don't have to justify this surgery to anyone. That it is not a weakness..he said if anyone tells me I took the easy way out, I should tell them "yes I did." He said if someone breaks their arm and they put a cast on, would you say they took the easy way out? Yes, because there was a solution to the problem and you took it.

Here's my fave general blanket statement, and one of the reasons why my nickname is "Salt," --
In the most singular California-girl-monotone you can possibly muster,
"If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked."
    Period.
    Then walk-off.
Another good one is "Get bent."
    PS.
All the feedback here about not telling anyone about your surgery? I've been taking this route too, and it's been much, much easier on my brain. HR knows I'll be out later this year for "a surgery," my boss (a senior executive) knows it will be Bariatric-related. Otherwise my medical support group knows about it, and my medical team. Select family members know that I'm "working on my health."
All of my social weight-loss accounts are relatively anonymous, too.

    @@even11,
LOL!! I have to agree with @@Fredbear! But assuming you’re trying not to make enemies, I guess you could ask them what they mean. Eventually, it might come out that they think you’re not dieting and working hard, and you can explain that they are.
Or, if you don’t feel like wasting your time conversing with rude people, you can just tell them that you don’t know about them, but you don’t feel as though eating 1,000 calories a day is easy.
Or, you could agree. What difference does it make?
Or, you could say, “Maybe, but it’s the only way I know. How did you lose 100 lbs?” (Because anyone who’s telling you this clearly hasn’t been in your position and lost 100 lbs.)
I’m sorry you (and all of us) have to deal with this. Of course we shouldn’t care what people think, but all but a lucky few of us do. No matter what you say, people will still probably be able to make you feel bad about your WLS choice. At least you can try to remind yourself that people who say things like this about WLS (besides being ignorant on the subject) would probably find something else to try to make you feel bad about even if you hadn’t gotten WLS.
