I've stayed on the plan set by my surgeon and nutritionist. As far as meals, I eat high Protein and keep my carbs under 20 grams a day - sugars under 5 grams. I try to keep the fat down, too. I weigh or measure everything and keep my cals below 800. No sugar, no flour, no starches (except Beans - occasionally), no refined carbs. My carbs are from veggies.
I also make sure I walk at least 5 miles a day and I'm starting the couch to 5k program. I'm starting weight training soon, but I'm having surgery again on 1/3/17 (if you look really closely on the right side of my photo, you can actually see my huge hernia bulging out ;-/). I'm not allowed to lift yet, but as soon as I get the green light, I'm ready to start weight training.
Lastly, I track every nibble, lick, and bite to make sure I'm staying in my guidelines :-)

I've been exercising regularly and am discovering new ways to occupy my time, thanks. I know what I did wasn't protocol, but I was looking for feedback from others who did the same as myself, without judgement.
Yikes, a room full of people spitting out food sounds awful.

Congratulations Big Bird, losing 250lbs on your own is an amazing accomplishment! Plus you set yourself up for a great recovery.
The exploitative nature of the show is another reason I can't stomach it. On the other hand, I watched one episode of the fat doc last night. It was educational, inspirational and brought me to tears a couple of times. I can't wait to watch more!

A few years ago, I was almost 700 lbs and had large lymphedema tumors, so I contacted the show My 600 lbs Life, because I loved the show, and my life was beyond miserable and I needed the help that surgery could provide.
I sent photos and video footage of myself to the producers of the show, and they eventually decided to send a camera crew to my home for roughly a week to film an episode.
I was told after filming part one, I would have relocate temporarily to Houston, Texas to film a doctor's evaluation with Dr. Now, and later finally have surgery. I agreed to EVERYTHING, because I was so desperate for surgery.
However, after the week of filming in my life in my home, and interviewing my family members, the camera crew packed up and left, and then no one associated with the production would take my calls or call me back and this went on for weeks, meanwhile I had already made preparations to move to Houston.
After a couple months of no contact, I finally made one more call, and I was told by some nameless associate of the production, that there wasn't any interest in filming the rest of the episode with me because I simply wasn't disabled enough and didn't have any real drama going on in my life, as I don't have any kids or a dysfunctional relationship with a horrible spouse.
Fast forward a year later I was finally able to get the awesome surgery that I needed via Medicare and while I was in the hospital recovering I received a call from someone associated with the show, and I was asked how I was doing and if I was still interested in shooting the rest of the episode. I hung the phone up without saying a word. Unbelievable!
I still enjoy watching the show because it provides life changing help to people who really need it, but the idea of having to exploit one's awful condition and life in order to receive desperately needed help is just terrible.
I'm so thankful that the episode didn't get produced because I would never truly want anyone to see me in that dreadful condition, and I soon after found the will and the strength to lose almost 250 lbs all on my own and I just got sleeved two weeks ago and I've lost another 25 lbs since then.
Btw, I'm looking forward to seeing the new season of the show as well as all of you!
Don't look back, turn the page, and let your next chapter begin!

Omieliz reacted to Bufflehead in Following my own advice: carb detox
I started by not following my own advice. I always tell people who ask that they should consider "the holidays" to be one meal, or at most one day, not a stretch of days or a season, when deciding whether to eat off plan for "the holidays." I did a terrible job of following my advice over the past couple weeks and as a result when I checked in with the scale, found myself up 9 pounds. So for those of you wondering whether it is possible for people to gain weight back with the sleeve and how long it takes, let me tell you, yes they can and it can be done very quickly!
So, I am following my own advice I have given here before for people who have found themselves off track, gaining weight back, and eating crazy things. I have done this before a couple of times and it is HARD but it works.
    1. Throw away all off-plan food in the house. I don't give myself permission to finish up the Cookies or whatever. They all went in the trash.
    2. Start right away. I did not wait until the end of the weekend, the New Year, or any other artificial starting point. My starting point is now.
    3. Three days of nothing but unprocessed meats, eggs, and green veggies. No weighing portions or counting calories. Eat as much as I want whenever I feel hungry.
    4. After these three days I'll go back to weighing my portions and counting calories. Probably another day or two of just lean meats and green veggies before adding back in things like dairy, nuts, and fruit.< /p>
Today is my first day of the carb detox. I find myself doing some serious internal whining about how hard it is and how unfair it is and I don't want to and one more day of Starbucks indulgences won't really set me back that much . . . but I will push through it and keep reminding myself that I get to eat as much as I want, whenever I want, it's just that I can only eat a few types of food. It will get easier.

Well, this morning I weighed myself and I'm at 211.6. This is amazing! I've officially lost almost 100 pounds since I started this journey (34 pounds pre op, 64 pounds since surgery on 8/31). I have a lot more to lose to get to my goal, but it all seems more of a possibility now then when I started :-).
I'm having surgery again on January 3 to repair my hernias - the ones I received from my cancer surgeries. This will be the first surgery I've had in 4 1/2 years where they're not taking something out :-). I'm a little scared because I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to get in all the Protein and Water when I'm recovering.
Still having issues with Constipation. Further, I noticed this week that hair loss has started :-(. Also, my arm skin looks like it belongs on a 90 year old alligator. These are such minor changes - I'm so glad I had this surgery. I can move and chase my grandkids. I can play with them and get down on the floor with them. The constipation, Hair loss, and saggy chicken wings are inconsequential in comparison.
My surgeon said I have a really small frame - say what?? Other than short, small has not been a part of my vocabulary in 16 years.
My waist - which has been hidden behind rolls of lard - is finally back. The damage I did to my body eating all the crap I did for so long, is appalling. I'm praying that I continue to eat mindfully everyday and that I use this tool that has brought me a new chance at life, the way it's meant to be used. I pray that I will no longer be a slave to food and that it will remain what it's meant to be - fuel for my body rather than food for my soul.
    Happy New Year to all!
