try not to worry too much....first, know that it takes time for your body to recover from the surgery and your body is still recovering at six weeks out. You may have hit a stall but I promise it will start to fall off soon. My journey was nuts in that I would stall for three weeks and then lost 10lbs in a week. Try to make sure you get your Water in, too! You won't continue to gain...just try not to compare yourself with others on the same journey. God bless!

you have to do what is right for you! I too, had tried every diet and gimmick under the sun to lose weight. I have no regrets about having the sleeve last summer. I feel amazing! I am not finished but the surgery is a 'tool' that will help you to lose the weight and hopefully keep it off. Good luck and try not to listen to well meaning folks!

Ive been told to go to the doctors each time you get an infection in the extra skin. If you are insured this will add data/proof to the Medical Need of having skin reduction surgery. Just an FYI. Keep that in mind. You could leverage this into helping you get that skin removed!

Ugh. In all my decades of being heavy, I never had this until the last few months (the skin one, not the tongue - ouch!). I tried a lot, but finally had luck with clotrimazole cream (over the counter 3-day yeast infection cream) and showers twice a day. Once it's gone, keep it clean and dry and use Gold Bond powder. Always dry the skin with a hairdryer before applying the cream or powder. Good luck. It's miserable.

I had a check-up with my PCP today. What is awesome is that I no longer dread getting on the scale and no longer get the "you need to lose weight" lecture. My PCP is thrilled with my progress!

Nancydhu reacted to trailaur in JUST starting my journey. Soo anxious!
    Heyy everyone!!
Soo I just called my doctor of choice's facility yesterday to have their insurance specialists call my insurance to see is the gastric sleeve procedure would be covered under my insurance. They said it would be covered 100% at NO cost to me!!! Needless to say I was beyond excited, as I have been thinking about this for years, and just haven't had good enough insurance to cover it.
I've already been evaluated by the doctor, when I first tried to start the process in 2015. So now I'm scheduled for a pre-op visit with the dietitian on 9/1, and I'm just wondering how long the process usually is?? I know I also need to eventually see the psychiatrist as well.
I know I sound super impatient, but I'm just curious.

food equals all of the good memories of family and friends. Sadly, I laughed about what I would do now since a big part of me loved to entertain and cook. I felt like I had no purpose. I just got my sleeve a few days ago, and guess what, people still love me. food has been my light, my go to for bad days. I had a food funeral last weekend for this purpose of saying goodbye you have been great, but you really almost killed me. That's when I knew I was ready to let go. I am still thinking about food today, but I remember what I did and for what. That kicks me right back into no regrets. When you are ready, you will know.

I dropped a bit of weight during the months leading up to surgery. Felt good during that process. Felt like I was establishing control of finding comfort from food.
The 14 day liquid diet and the month I stayed on it post-op really were what unlocked this feel at a much deeper level.
Weight was falling off me and I was feeling the relief in my back and was able to drop all the steroids, pain meds and muscle relaxers. My thoughts were clear and my mind was focused.
The extended period on liquid only helped me break away from food and I've not viewed it the same since.....and am grateful for it.
I find comfort in smaller clothes, walking without intense pain, lifting weights and feeling that nice soreness in the days afterwards, interacting with others, doing public speaking to groups every day on my job and feeling great standing in front of them.
I finally.....after all these years.....realized that finding comfort in food was simply a lie. The food was poisoning me and making me dangerously heavy.

I used food as rewards. Bad day, I deserved something delicious. Good day, I deserved something delicious.
I worked that issue out before surgery. I learned to walk or distract myself if I was stressed or having a bad day with work. I learned to reward myself with lipgloss instead of monster steaks. Eventually I just learned to control my emotions better by eliminating a lot stress.
I don't think I could have done it post-op if I didn't work it out mentally pre-op. I spent probably 2 years before surgery working through my issues. Post-op there are way too many hormone issues I think to make those kind of changes and work through emotions just because all the emotions are so high. At least I couldn't have done it.
I removed my stress factors, which I suggest for anyone. That meant cutting a lot of toxic people from my life. Now when I get stressed, work can still be frustrating, I walk or exercise and that helps me think clearer and work through my problems.

Thank you, Nancydhu, I am working on it. My surgeon is 3 hours from my home and he anticipates me staying in the hospital one night. I thought I could do it alone, but the kind responses I have received have convinced me that I will need another. Thank you for you time and thoughts.

I noticed post surgery that norcos had much less effect than prior. Interestingly, the liquid version seemed much stronger at the same dosage. I can't explain the biology/pharmacology, but that was definitely my anecdotal experience.

I love spaghetti squash with marinara and zucchini with marinara when I use my vegetti to make veggie noodles. I haven't had more than one or two bites of Pasta since I had my sleeve so both of these options make me feel like I'm eating Pasta (sort of). I tend to get full really quickly with both the squash and zucchini so remember to eat slowly. Even at over a year and a half out, the other day I ate my zucchini marinara too quickly and was puking 5 minutes later.

Just a tip--if you make instant mashed potatoes with all milk, instead of Water it will up the Protein amount in them. Unflavored Protein powder also mixes well in them.
