MommaZ got a reaction from Ragdollorchid in Getting VSG in August at the age of 54
I had leukemia - just celebrated 5 yrs in remission in April!! Still have 5 yrs of testing until I'm considered "clear", but so far so good.
I think as long as the surgeon is aware of your history, you'll be just fine. I'm sure they encounter all kinds of issues and have ways of working around them.

I'm 52 and a cancer survivor as well ~ I figure if I keep waiting, I'll only be an older fat woman. Rather be a skinnier, healthier 53

What I asked myself was ~ would I have a perfectly healthy kidney removed to improve the chances of survival for someone I love? (yes) Then why wouldn't I remove part of a healthy stomach to improve my chance of survival?

I'm super sorry you are feeling "condescend", "bullied", "ganged up" on. Seriously.
I won't tell you if I think you should/should not have surgery, but I will tell you that the pre-op diet and the hormonal changes you'll go through post op will (most likely) cause severe mood swings, extreme sensitivity, irrational anger at times, etc. (I was a hot mess for sure!)
I say this with all sincerity. If you are THIS upset over very well intentioned posts, mine included, you will REALLY want to avoid public forums once you start the process.
It's a tough journey, for sure.
Edit to add: and I'm sure no one's reactions have anything to do with your BMI.

I think you need to grow up and watch the language I don't think this site is for you. People are only trying to help you and they're not saying what you want to hear so you're getting pissed off. I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck

pinkpeanuts--Everyone I have seen on this site recognizes that this is major surgery with strong emotional effects--both good and bad. The real people will tell you what they truly believe, not what you want to hear.

You're not. No one is putting you down or speaking to you in a condescending manner AT ALL. Every response you were given was answering YOUR question in a well thought out and caring manner. I was about to give you my opinion, but clearly that would NOT be a good idea.
    Good luck to you!

@@northstar9148 Have you gotten any neuro therapy after your head injury? The therapists are usually really good about helping clients find or develop coping mechanisms for whatever deficit they have.
There are places online that will give you planned meals for each week, along with the shopping list of what to buy, and prep instructions for each meal. I don't know how much they cost, but that might be one option. Or have a family member or friend help you develop the same. A planner system can help you keep track of these things, and more that you're probably having issues with.
But if you're having that much difficulty with executive processing, you really need to see a neurologist and specifically request some occupational/neuro therapy.

I'm not a parent, however do have younger nephews. I told them I was getting a new tummy because mine was good, but I needed it to be smaller to help me get healthier. I also told them they might see me eat some weird liquids and food for a while. One of them had a timeframe to get in as many tickles in beforehand. As far as after, I said I might need their help for a while carrying things for me until I was all better. Kids love to help!
It was important for one of them to see me two or three days after. One week out and he already says I look smaller and likes that we can have popsicle breaks together.
Good luck with your surgery, being healthy and being a great Dad!
