LBrown 09 got a reaction from atrudel in January 2017 Sleevers
I was also sleeved on 01/04 and have no trouble with 11oz Protein Shake. After the 3rd day preop I was meeting my Water goals. I guess it's a blessing and a curse because I don't have any trouble getting anything down and seldomly fill full. I have to keep reminding my self Portion Control.

LBrown 09 reacted to Rose1up! in One Year Surgery Update
I hit my surgiversary on January 6, 2017 with 100 lbs lost. I had a total of 4 surgeries last year which slowed my weightloss down. One of those surgeries was losing my gallbladder on Oct 1, 2016. Since my diet was small portions with high Protein, low carbs, and low fat, it wasn't a problem for me after my gallbladder surgery. I incorporate my daily activities with walking and when the weather is good, I ride my bike. Since my weight came off at a slower rate, I don't have a lot of sagging skin. I need to tone my arms. That's about all. A nurse practitioner told me that I need to only eat Protein and not worry about my veggies because I get nutrients from my Vitamins. I think that is bad advice. We get told all the time, protein first, then veggies, then carbs. That is what I follow. My protein is sitting at 60-65 a day. Since I'm high protein, I have felt so good through this process. I throw in my Fiber by eating oatmeal bars or chia seeds or veggies. This has been a great journey. It's gone by extremely fast. We all have our habits whether we admit them or not. Just be sure you always stick to the reason why you chose to have weightloss surgery. The best advice I can give you, is keep the inside of your body as clean as possible. Indulge in special occasions but get right back to your basics. Be sure to take your Vitamins daily and if you fall off the wagon, go back to your basics and look through all your nutritional paperwork that you were given. Don't ever give up on yourself once you hit your goal. Stay clear, stay strong, think healthy. If you've come this far, don't ever fall back. We always had this smaller version of ourselves inside the bigger version, so don't forget that you don't want to cover up your smaller version. People will get jealous of you and they will ask you, are you losing weight, it's your choice if you tell them the truth. Be careful of who you tell, as they may tell everyone. Remember to choose your food choices wisely and if you get bored of Protein shakes, buy the powders and make your own. Research other protein supplements to get your protein in. Continue your journey and pride and reward yourself for your accomplishments!
I have 10 more lbs to go until I hit my goal and I know I'll accomplish it. Thank you for reading my post. I love myself and so glad my inner self is here!

As you can see I’m still very new to the post-surgery world. But today I had a little success to share with everybody who will be going through the same thing in the near future. An update on how I’m feeling, gas pains are all but gone (keep walking!) I’m now at the point where the sites are very itching and some of the bandaging is coming off. I’m still a little slow but I have very little to no pain, except minor at the incision sites. Now for the little success, I just started full liquids yesterday and today I decided to have some Tomato Soup, I heated up a can of Soup which was about 12 ounces, I sat down and started taking small sips to see how I tolerated it (no problem) it’s shocking how good Tomato soup tastes after the journey I have been on. I started falling into my old eating habits of, it’s in front of me I have to finish, it’s at this point my little breakthrough came today, after eating 4 or 5 ounces of soup I realized I wasn’t hungry anymore, the old me would’ve been like, it’s there you gotta finish it, but this time I stop myself and put the remainder of the soup in the fridge for a later time. I know this is not earth shattering but I guess this is a good success on my journey going forward.

LBrown 09 reacted to Wayward Traveler in New here, procedure set for Jan. 12, 2017!
Hi everyone! Just a few thoughts now and I will write more later ...
My favorite Protein (by far) is chocolate Organic Fuel. It's not a full Meal Replacement but if it's only a few days and you're taking Vitamins, it should be sufficient. It's not super thick (I can't stand the weird texture of some Protein drinks) - it's more like the consistency of milk. It's also not sickeningly sweet and it does not have an overwhelming Vitamin flavor. It just has a subtle chocolate flavor. And at only 260 calories for 26 grams of protein, you can't beat it. I love it so much that months after having the balloon removed, I still have it almost every day for Breakfast.
If you want more of a full Meal Replacement, Orgain is another good option. Similar texture, just a little more flavor and no aftertaste (unless you get their high protein version - blech!). In that one I actually prefer strawberry or vanilla. Orgain has more Vitamins and minerals than Organic Fuel, but not as much protein, so it's a give and take. But both are organic/natural, which I like.
FWIW I only had to fast for 3 days before insertion - 2 days of full fluids and 1 of clear. I actually fasted a little longer before the removal (it can be more of an issue at that time since food can get stuck on/around the balloon). But I would do whatever your doctor advises.
Other fasting options - (bone) broth, Jello, popsicles, Bariatric Choice liquid (smells like medicine but tastes like Kool-Aid - not bad!), powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (various drinks and Soups, including an unflavored option, but I have not tried them) and Isopure (a clear protein that I got for post-op, but I couldn't stomach it ... not sure if that's because it was too thick/sweet or if it was because I was queasy ... but some people swear by it). Ensure even has a clear Protein Drink (I have not tried that one, either, but Ensure is pretty popular). I even just drank the broth from my favorite canned Soup - Progresso Chickarina ... it was very soothing. :-)
BTW, if you're fasting, you might want to consider going crazy and getting the regular popsicles and Jello (not the lo-cal versions). They are only like 15-40 calories to begin with ... you'll be at such a tremendous calorie deficit that your body will thank you for the extra "nutrition". Also, ask your doctor if you're allowed to chew while fasting. If not, you may just need to let these options dissolve in your mouth. (Sounds crazy, I know, but chewing activates saliva and digestive juices, which they may not like ... that's why you're not allowed to chew gum the day of the procedure.)
I hope that helps. Best wishes to you all!! :-)

I know right now you're kinda lonely, but soon you'll be back home and starting your new life. My kids are older so we didn't have to be home when they did, but my husband did not hang around much that evening after the surgery. I was groggy and sore anyway.

Good luck, by now you should be sleeved and up walking trying to get rid of those gas pains. You'll feel so much stronger knowing YOU did this!!!!! When I go in for surgery my husband won't be able to go either as we have 2 kids he'll have to take care of, so I'll also be alone. You can do it ????

Thanks everybody! I had to spend an extra night in the hospital because I couldn't get my nausea/puking under control. Other than that and some occasional irritating gas pains, everything else is going good. I'm getting in many laps at the hospital and really no pain at all on surgery sites.

I am schedule to have my sleeve around 2:30. I'm quite emotional because I am here by myself. My husband is at work and the kids get out of school around that time so it made sense for him to tend to them since I will be spending the night. My dad dropped me off at the hospital but because I choose to only tell my husband about the surgery, he didn't stay. So much going on in my head right now and tears watering my eyes. Praying for all those going through surgery today. I don't question my decision about not telling anyone. The emotions are for the unknown that I will face in a couple of hours and moving forward.
