justhere4theshow reacted to Odie in Overly sensitive/militant people!
There are so many nice, intelligent people contributing to these forums. Their information is on point, their insight invaluable!! I look for some of these people under all of the comments so that I can follow them for their remarks, advice and humour!!
THEN there are those people, mainly women I'm sorry to say, who take every remark, every answer, every comment that does not suit them and they turn the discussion into a battle!! They seem to feel that everything written is an attack on their sanity, their intellect or their standing in the world!! They go into attack mode with the slightest provocation and insist you leave their thread and their life!! I truly don't understand this kind of mentality and how people with such thin skin can function in the real world!!
It's so nice to a have a forum of like minded individuals, WLS/losing weight, where everything and anything can be discussed. Why ruin it with name calling, direct personal attacks and a militant stance?
Please remember now, this is MY RANT!!

Tonight is going to be snort of bourbon night. It may be a big snort.
This morning started off with the impending visit of a friend of mine. He needed to go to the sawmill I frequent to get some lumber he was not able to source local to his own home. He lives about two hours from me. About 15 minutes before his anticipated arrival, my father called me to inform me that their well pump had gone Tango Utah, and they had no Water. Both my parents are in their eighties. They live a little more than an hour north of me.
Without going into all the sordid details, I managed to get my friend his lumber, and shuffled back to NJ, from whence he came, all the while coordinating between a plumber friend of mine and my father, who has an innate distrust of anyone he doesn't know. I am usually the one on deck for doing his plumbing work, but I told him we were hiring out if I had to pay for it myself. Oh yeah, the sawmill is located in "dark country". There is no cell service there. Not even texts get out of the cellular black hole there. So in addition to being monkey in the middle, I had to get it done while traveling in and out of phone service.
One of my major accomplishments, perhaps even an NSV it is so big, was teaching an 82 year old man how to use his phone to take a picture and TEXT it to me so I could inform the plumber of what was actually going on. And I talked him through it over the phone. I did get the privilege of standing in an unheated basement in the mountains (read high temp of 15 degrees today) to help with the work.
One other detail for the day is my friend had sleeve surgery almost six years ago. It did not work for him because of his intractability when it comes to his eating habits. But, he has experienced a rebirth of determination watching my success so far, so I have been counseling him as to how to mend his rotten ways (Jethro Tull reference there for those who might recognize it).
So yeah. It's time for a snort. I'll be back on my strict diet again tomorrow. I am invoking the 80/20 rule laid down by the folks at my program. They never did say what those 20% bad calories could be, and I have been cleared for booze. The drinking light is lit. If I am not careful, I'll be lit too.

I continue to be shocked--although less and less as time goes on--at how rude and hateful some people can be. Do what you want, eat what you want, and you'll end up right where you started: fat (and maybe dead). If you spend all your time on the internet getting advice from strangers, you might want to re-evaluate some things. It's one thing to start an open discussion in the spirit of sharing and voicing your own experience, but it's quite another to get on here so you can judge and berate people. I have switched from looking to this forum for support and learning to reading the various nonsense and BS purely for entertainment.

I had the sleeve in 2011.Due to acid reflux I had bypass on Nov,22,2016.The surgery took longer because they had to go through scar tissue from other surgery.they also fixed a failed Hiatal Hernia.I was more sore this time.Walking helped a lot with the gas pains. The rest of my body was sore toofrom being on the table longer.I went home after 2 days .Had to get my Fluid intake up before they would let me go home.Only took pain meds a couples after I was home.Just walked a lot around the house.I have lost 24 lbs so far.The acid reflux is gone .So worth it.
    Good Luck with your surgery

I agree that it would be really nice to have a revision group or something along those lines for sleeve to bypass. Maybe @@Alex Brecher could look into it and see if we could add a category? My surgery is just around the corner, and I can't wait to get relief. Three days to go! Please keep me posted on how everyone is doing!

justhere4theshow got a reaction from Treadmillwalker in How do I manage to get enough protein daily!?
My favorite is Dannon Triple Zero yogurt with a scoop of GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder added. If it's not sweet enough you can add a touch of stevia. Basically, you may need to just add protein powder to everything possible. You should be eating protein at every meal or snack, and eat it first. My best weight loss has happened when I finally got enough protein consistently. You can still lose weight without it, but you risk losing muscle mass. It is helpful if you can get protein in your liquids if you're falling short with your food. Good luck to you!

Habits and addiction are life long battles. Surgery is the easy part but the mind's behavior wants to stay the same.
I am a food addict, but I work at my "recovery" every day. I have not strayed from my plan and I feel I have a handle on it now. Its those addictions and behaviors that lead people eat that stuff.
Why post about it? My guess is that there is guilt and worry and a need for validation. My best advice for them is to seek counseling and therapy. food addiction is a b*tch but it can be overcome.

Good grief, I didn't know that there's a manufactured thing. To me, potted meat is in the realm of pot roast -- real food. The terms of the Geneva Conventions surely prohibit as torture the mechanical separation of chickens.
Thanks for the education. You've made my eyes cross.

My Mom decided to take our entire family on a cruise to the Bahamas for an early Christmas present, and I just had my sleeve to bypass conversion 10/26/16. The swimsuits were the biggest challenge. I had to take measurements and order online, then pray for delivery in time to still be the right size for the trip...great problem to have, but it's been nerve-wracking. I have caught sales for most of the other things I needed. I have three sizes of jeans in my closet, and I am finding that I now hate boot-cut jeans on my changing frame, so I have bought a lot of new jeans. Not great for my budget. But as I get smaller, cute jeans get easier to find in second-hand shops. I can't wait to get to goal and/or find my comfortable maintenance weight. Once I level off, I am getting new stuff without the guilt! Good luck to you, and let yourself have a splurge when you can. It's really nice to wear clothes that make you feel good about your journey. After all, we've earned it!

I read about many of the issues with the lap band while I was intially researching WLS.
It seems that some bands were made of substandard materials, prone to corrosion or improperly fitted to begin with.
In those cases, i can understand not wanting to have something literally rusting or corroding on my insides.
As for the rest of it, I'm inclined to agree. I saw a post from a lap band to sleeve revision patient who has regained the weight and is now trying to qualify for a bypass. Personally, I think it would be malpractice to continue to operate on someone who obviously has an underlying issue that surgery will not address.
It might not be the answer that is popular, but all of the procedures work. Not following the diet is the part that doesnt work.
Huat eaeloer today there was someone inquiring about revision, and asking about eating mashed potatoes on liquids.

I stayed until the next day and then went home. The sleeve did not work for me because of severe reflux. I also didn't lose much weight, but I think that may have been because I had a hard time eating right because the reflux was so bad. I had more pain with the bypass, and I don't know if it was because I had surgery only 5 months prior, or if it was just the complexity of the surgery. I feel a lot better now, and the only thing that still bothers me is fatigue. I am losing pretty well, so overall I am very pleased with the outcome so far. Let me know if I can answer anything else!

I am 47 years old and I am on Medicare because I am disabled. I worked for many years, and I worked hard. I earned every bit of my benefits; they are not entitlements. I worked in health care and encountered all types of people with all types of insurance coverage. To stereotype and judge people based on what type of insurance they have is pretty crappy. There will always be people who aren't necessarily the most gracious, but I have encountered some real a**holes with private insurance, too. I draw conclusions about people based on behavior. It's really none of anyone's business what kind of insurance other people have. Jerks are jerks. Kind people are rare. Life is harder for some than others.
