Jesm1029 reacted to shmooz2930 in Connecticut sleevers?
Hi Everyone! I live in Southeastern CT. I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery back on 10/8/2014 at Backus Hospital with Dr. Mark Tousignant ..whi is now at Manchester Hosp in South Windsor. I started at 243lbs 5'4 . I am now at 162lbs. I had a little regain of like 12 to 13lbs and went to see my surgeon and he helped my start to lose that plus a couple lbs more. I followed him to his new office to remain a patient of his. I love my sleeve and do not regret it. I feel like the person I lost is able to step out again...always felt me inside but felt trapped in my body and dis not want to continue on that path. My weight came off mainly over the first year..and a few more after but I maintained for the most part.

The best part about my sleeve is that I don't have to fad diet anymore.
Why not just eat dense Protein? Steak grilled chicken, lamb chops, pork chops, etc. You will be more satisfied for longer. All these resets programs focus on liquids. That might work for people with RNY, I don't know but it seems really counter productive for a sleever. Simple dense protein, just dense protein. The weight will come off.

Liquids go right through my sleeve and offer zero satisfaction and don't remind me of the most important part of my sleeve, besides the Gherlin removal, the restriction.

And once you are smaller 15 pounds is a lot of weight, it is at least one dress size, maybe 2. There is advantage in weighing yourself daily so if you are up say 5 pounds, you can stop it before it gets to be too much.

I will reiterate that two slices of pizza does not result in 5 pounds of fat gain. To gain 5 pounds of body fat, one would need to consume and store 17,500 calories as adipose tissue. Two fully loaded slices of pizza on a hand-tossed or deep dish crust contains 800 to 1,000 calories at the most, depending on the toppings.
Your 5-pound pre-op weight gain was almost assuredly all Water weight due to the high carbohydrate content of the pizza. And yes, it takes a while for some people to lose the bloat and water weight gain, especially if they do not engage in vigorous physical activity to use up those water-heavy glycogen stores.

Like Outside and Introversion said, your weight gain is likely Water because you're almost certainly increasing your carb intake. I also want to echo their cautions about the 'cheat' mentality. It's deadly. You CAN eat anything, if you plan for it. Take away the implications of 'cheating' and turn that into 'planning'. I just ate macadamia nuts glazed with Kona coffee. Are those a great choice for someone just under one year post-op? Of course not, but I planned for them, and adjusted my day accordingly and will adjust tomorrow as well. It's not a 'cheat' and can't do me any harm if I plan, adjust and move on.

There's no way, physiologically or otherwise, that you can gain 6 pounds of true fat after one or two so-called "cheat days." 6 pounds of fat gain would have required you to consume and store 21,000 excess calories as body fat. It cannot happen in a couple of days.
What is happening is Water gain due to consumption of too many starches. Eating too many carbohydrates without enough physical activity will cause bloat. Foods with a high carbohydrate level cause the body to store three times as much water compared to Protein. This storage is in the form of glycogen, which requires a considerable amount of water.
The end result of eating too many carbs without enough activity is water weight gain, at least in susceptible people. In carb-sensitive people, carbohydrate loading (a.k.a. "cheating") causes Fluid retention that results in a lot of temporary water weight gain. Recall that the liver utilizes water as it creates and stores glycogen from all the carbs one eats. Thus, water weight gain will show up on the scale as a heavier weight.
I do not have cheat foods or cheat days. If I want a slice of pizza or a cheeseburger or taco, I eat it. Since I have no forbidden foods, I have minimal desire to go off the rails. "Cheat days" are a part of the dieter mentality. I sucked at diets; therefore, I am not on a diet. As long as that burger can be worked into my daily calorie budget, it is not a cheat food for me.

I had problems like this at night. It had to do with the position I was sleeping in. The way I sleep post-op is completely different than pre-op. I was basically sleeping weird and cutting my circulation off. I had to learn how to sleep again and how to sit again.
My blood pressure is at the bottom of normal, and dips lower. Most of my family is like that. If I am going to be active I have to really keep my Fluid intake up and I can pretty much have unlimited salt. There is nothing wrong with my blood work. I just lost weight and turned delicate.

I'm confused were you eating for the entire time taking breaks. I'm suppose to space my meals 3hrs apart and not drink 30 mins prior or after. I would use caution you don't want food stuck.

Per my nut I'm suppose to eat a cup of food at 9-12 months post op and maintain that for life at your stage I was still eating 1/4 cup and then around 6months I was at 1/2cup which is where I still am I'm almost 10months post

So it depends on you I have come to my own realization that it is extremely addicting for me and if I get some today I want it tomorrow so I have found that I will occasionally indulge in a slice of cake but I keep that minimal and not often once a month. My weakness is movie theater kettle corn that I have 1 a month.

You lost all that weight once, you can do it again. Don't give up on yourself!
Make tomorrow into a new day and just start fresh. Go back to the basics and take it one step at a time .Yes, you'll have to undo some bad habits, but it can be done!

Oh, honey, I'm so so very sorry for your dilemma!!! My heart breaks for you!!!! I'm not a surgeon or doctor, but I do believe that nothing is impossible. It sounds like you're already involved in counseling--that would've been my first suggestion. I also know about a group called Celebrate Recovery, which is found all over the country. It's a 12-step, Christ-based program for overcoming "hurts, hangups and habits" of all kinds. You might try to look up your local chapter by googling it. Also, whether you never lose any weight or not, making good food choices is your best bet to stay as healthy as possible. And, who knows, maybe it'll happen for you. But the main thing is to get your mind and heart right!! I pray you'll find some peace.
