Many have found that when they're eating too little, they're stalling their loss. Don't know what you're doing, activity levels, or eating , so it's just a general answer. Best to get with your nut.

I'm seven months post-op. While I'm happy to have lost 44 pounds, I've been stuck since January. I'll lose a pound or two, then gain a pound or two. I know two other people who've had the same surgery and are also at their plateau. Has anyone else gone through this? What did you do to break it? I need to lose another 20 pounds, at least. I'm so frustrated! I've even started working out. Nothing.

In five years 40% of lap bands fail and only 43% have lost 50% of excess weight after seven years. That's a fact. The band may be able to get adjusted and you can't put the stomach back in with the sleeve BUT many people get lifelong problems because of the band and issues with the sleeve are rare.
I have had the band for 9 years and luckily I have had minor issues but others who I told to go for it have had serious issues. I come from a family full of heavy people and the ones that chose the sleeve other than myself have hit goal with no issues.

    Be Real lol.

I had a very strict doctor, and like yours, he put in a small amount in my band the first time. I had zero restriction. After a few fills, I was able to reach my green zone. Have patience.

Read carefully. I commended some. I just don't get the condescending tone of some of these people on this thread. They know who they are which is why they keep coming back to get the last word.

I believe in encouraging people as well but I also believe I gotta be straight up with people who are trying to make a decision like the original post in this. I used to push the lap band back in the day, and I've seen a lot of people (my family members) suffer. Guilt makes you think to do research a bit more. If they already got the band, then I try to encourage people of course.

I noticed. I didn't get the "not scientifically interesting" part either, and I really don't get the abstract comment. If they want to see the methods, it's right there. If they want fine details, they could get a subscription. Don't matter, I suppose, as long as others get it. Good to do research on your surgery and not just go by opinions before one goes under the knife. Some sound just like the lap band ads in 2005. smh

I say that you can have a light brekkfast, but I'm not a bariatric pro, certainly not yours. Give the office a call to be sure of their routine.
After your adjustment and before you leave the office, you'll be told what to do for the rest of the day and probably the next. Don't be shy about asking all the questions that may occur to you.
    Have fun.
    --------------------
Oh, you go in tomorrow. My practice tells me that there's no problem eating before an adjustment. It's my choice to go light on it. That's all I can say on the subject.

@@bloomie85, I was like you. I was in limbo for a while of lapband over sleeve. I decided to go with the sleeve because I didn't want to have a port and didn't know if I would feel the cord, get fills, get it adjusted, etc.

I think by "user error" my surgeon meant compliance, that in his experience band people were less likely to follow the rules. But with any procedure we have to follow the rules to be successful. We all know that.

@@laceemouse Yeah, I agree with that. I just see a lot of people who are forced to have revisions due to band complications through no fault of their own, and others insisting it didn't work because of their "user error". Product liability type of issue. Hehe Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Well, by all means... discount research as 'not scientifically interesting', whatever that means, and focus on anecdotal evidence! What a GREAT way to make life-altering decisions!
@@dvons Thanks for trying, but academic rigor around here falls short quite often. I enjoyed the abstract and poking around in PubMed for a little while

I'm another former band revision (to rny) due to complications/breakage. there may be a possibility with complications after any surgery but with the band it is pretty high (especially when you look 5-10+ years out). it worked for me, then complications and it eventually broke. someone on another post said you need to look at it like you would breast implants. they need to be replaced every 10-15 years because it is a piece of equipment and they don't last forever. Mine lasted 11 years. others on here have some that are even older than that and still working. i am one of the lucky people who did not have heavy scar tissue or erosion that might prevent a revision or make it more risky.

Out of the 100 or so friends I know that were banded I would say between 50-80% had complications, gained weight back, etc. I can think of VERY few that are still happy with their bands after 6+ years.

@@krr343 I went to the surgeon with Band in mind. He told me the same as @ that more are removed than put in these days. He also said that 50-60% of lapband patients require a secondary surgery due to complications. I'm going with the sleeve. I have alot more weight to lose than the lapband can help with too.

Your surgeon is the best one to answer the question of which is best for you.
A lot of people like the LB because it's reversible, and adjustable. However, it can slip and can erode the stomach. I also know two different people who got the LB and developed life threatening infections. That's always a potential complication for any surgery, but anytime a foreign object is being put in the body to be left there, it adds a few potential complications to the list.
It was not even an option for me because of my auto-immune disease. Each person is different. My surgeon doesn't like to do them because of the complications possible, but she still does them for certain patients that meet a narrow criteria.

My surgeon only does lap band in very limited circumstances -- low BMI and if the patient absolutely refuses any other bariatric surgery. He would not have done one on me, which is fine because after reading up about the common complications and lack of weight loss success, I would not have wanted one.

I had the band for 7 years, successful as well, lost over a hundred pounds, kept it off by eating right and exercising. No serious complications but did get an esophageal dilation a few times for being too tight. User error? No, I don't believe that. Perhaps in some but the band, overall, is more fussy. It depends on many things, like how your body adjusts to the band after adjustments, and it depends on the precision on who does your fills, their knowledge, their experience... Etc. For example, my first surgeon was excellent, found my green zone fast... But after moving, and my body changing due to weight loss, finding a competent surgeon/nurse was not as easy as some may think, especially since the surgeons tends to favor the sleeve over the band these days.... And unfortunately, for me, it not only required technician skill, but it costs $$ and time for each adjustment to find that green zone. Would I recommend it? Sure. I loved my band when I had it, but I think it's good to know all the aspects, the good, the bad and ugly. ^^

I keep seeing people say lapband to sleeve revision patients lose weight slower than just sleevers. Im getting revised in December. Some questions I have for those people are 1.) Did you gain most or all of your band weight back before sleeve surgery 2.) How long did you stay significantly overweight before you decided on the sleeve 3.) How much did you lose on your pre op for the sleeve 4.) How much have you lost now and what month are you post op? Thanks in advance for filling out my questionnaire, lol.
