    Gallbladder

I had mine removed 17 years ago and I've had no problems.
  2. Hello beautiful people! Like many sleevers I developed heartburn after surgery. I was taking OTC generics (same as Prilosec) which did a great job of controlling it, but because of my family history of neurological issues I asked my nut about other options; she suggested trying enteric peppermint oil. I've been taking it for a few days with promising results. It certainly doesn't last 24 hours but if I take it about 30 mins before I eat, it controls it. The one I take also has fennel in it and is marketed for people with IBS, which I don't have. Just wanted to throw that out for anyone seeking to conquer post op GERD. 3. I am at gw (actually below it but haven't updated stats). I went from size 20 to size 8. Prior to wls I had my gb removed and had a true emergency c-section with vertical incision, so my abdomen is definitely scarred. It's also flabbier than I would like, which I'm working on... At my 6 month visit my surgeon asked if I would have a tummy tuck. He told me I'd be a size or two smaller and overall have a nicer (less flab) shape. Given that my stomach is scarred pretty badly I'm not going to be wearing any midriff bearing clothes, and I am overall happy with how I look. However the flab bugs me!! The cost of surgery is pretty high for a vanity project, I have some loose skin but it's not bad. Anyone in a similar situation who did or didn't have a tt and is happy with the results?

    Did you have a tt?

Did she have a lot of extra skin? I don't, which is what makes it hard to justify.

    Need advice

I don't know about dehydration, my pain was a deep ache, like flu, and I wasn't dehydrated. Are you achy or is it sharp pain? I do get sharp muscle cramps when I need fluids.

    Lunch ideas

Avocado, shredded chicken, string cheese, tuna, yogurt, almonds; there is a Chinese place near my work that has great Teriyaki chicken that's low sodium and low carb, I'll eat that a la carte for a treat. I also really like having soup for lunch. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need advice

Yes! I did, and it was quite painful. It was actually the only side effect I had but I hurt quite a bit. My surgeon blamed the anesthesia and told me the sensation was like fibromyalgia. For me, this lasted a week. I found relief by wrapping my arms and hands in damp, warm towels and using rice socks (fill a sock with rice and hear in the micro, then apply to the painful areas). Cold did nothing to alleviate the pain. I hope that your pain goes away quickly! Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Guilt.

I didn't cheat on my preop diet. I was worried about being turned away the day of surgery if I did. The preop was my turning point, when I finally got serious about my eating habits. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Is it as daunting as it sounds?

It's not as daunting not as it sounds. You will have a new normal, but it will take some time to figure out what that is. For me, the first six weeks were critical for understanding how to eat. Back then, 80 grams of protein seemed like so much and it could be hard to get that much; and for the first two weeks, getting enough water required that I really pay attention. It was easy to have too little. By three months I definitely had the hang of it all and by four months it felt very normal. I eat three meals a day and two snacks. My stomach is tiny and I can't overeat in a single meal; I could, if I wanted to, snack all day, wash it down with water, and overeat that way. That's why I ensure that I eat regularly and plan snacks. Getting enough water is not an issue anymore. By two months post op I could drink 8 oz of water at once; some people can't, but I could. I can eat out, can go to any event and not feel awkward about what I'm eating. My blood sugar and insulin are normal. I can, for the first time in my life, run a mile. I can fit in the roller coaster seats and on airplane seats. I can buy clothes off the rack and know they fit. My migraine headaches are gone (caused by HBP). I can go to the beach without being self conscious. I chose sleeve because I wanted to retain the ability to absorb nutrients and because it's not reversible. Dieting is reversible. WLS is not a diet; it's a tool for loss and maintenance. You will have to accept that your relationship with food will need to change forever, but as with any toxic relationship, having healthy boundaries is essential. Every single day I am grateful for this tool and the minor issues-- taking vitamins, having heartburn-- are a great trade off. Wishing you luck and peace with your decision! 14. My dr told me that it *might* be linked to Alzheimer's, which runs in my family. My nut suggested I try enteric peppermint oil with ginger. I'll give it a go. The OTC stuff is great but if the oil works, even better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  16. I'm about 7 months post-op. I am noticing that sometimes after I eat, I break out in a rash (once hives) and my eyes water. I am pretty sure I'm reacting to foods; I've never had food allergies or even sensitivities before. It most recently happened Friday night- for dinner I had an avocado stuffed with grilled chicken and jalapenos, onions, and cilantro. Also had a bite of beans. Within an hour my face was blotchy and my eyes were stinging. I've looked for info about developing food sensitivities following wls but can't find anything--- wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced this?

    Runners?

How long did it take to coordinate your breathing? I'm unconsciously inhaling, holding (!!) and exhaling. Exhale needs to be longer. I am practicing yoga breathing but when I'm running it seems like I can't coordinate my breaths! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anxiety over surgery procedure.

You all will do great!! The recovery for me was super easy and the results are great. It's normal to be anxious; I have had surgery multiple times and always feel anxious. I actually went through the process 4 years ago and didn't go through with it. I wish I had! I was sleeved last summer and it was the best investment I've made! A nervous beginner seeking encouragement

I wish I'd done this years ago. I was nervous and had doubts-- don't we all? -- but this changed my life. I'm so much healthier and stronger than I would have been without it, and my relationship with food is such that I'm in control. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
