  1. I had my VSG June 8, 2016. Super happy with the results. I went from 311 to 205, then gained back about 15 lbs, and also had a hernia repair surgery on June 28, 2017. Now using Saxenda as prescribed by my surgeon, and down to 205 again. Felling confident of hitting my goal of 190, but wondering if I can hold it. I haven't posted in a while, but I really appreciate all the great advice and comments... I read the site all the time.

    Saxenda

I had VSG last June 8. Since then I lost 106 lbs, going from 311 to 205. Then I put back on about 15 lbs. When I went to see my surgeon, he recommended Saxenda. I'm back at 205 after two weeks, and hopefully on my way to target at 190. I'm not sure how well I'll maintain 190, and moreover I'm a little concerned that the Saxenda may be making me eat an unhealthily low amount of calories. So now I'm focusing on protein again, and we'll see how that goes, until I see my surgeon again in a couple of weeks. So far Saxenda's been super effective at helping me get back losing weight again, but I've got like ZERO desire to eat, and I get nauseous if I eat much at all. Not entirely sure how I feel about that.

I cannot decide if I should do this or not

It sounds like without the surgery you are headed down the same road most everyone here was on too. I hope you make the right decision for you, but I can tell you I'm super happy with my results. It literally changed my life. I made the right decision for me... I trust you'll make the right one for you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    6 month stall/plateau and scared!

I had about a month-long stall 5 months out until about 6.5 months out. I had a similar starting weight as you, and I just sort of hung around 230 for a while, before it started edging down again. As a side note, I watch what I eat, but I'm pretty much eating what I want now, and I'm still slooowly edging towards my "ideal" weight of 190... if I stayed right here at 210 I'd have no reason not to be thrilled with the surgery results, but I'm still thinking I can make at least 200. Great work so far...you'll get there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I was sleeved on June 8, 2016, so that makes today my 8 month surgi-versary. I really did well right out of the gate, and haven't had any complications to speak of. The first 70 pounds or so just melted off. I was tracking pretty much everything I ate, and going from 311 to 240 was easy as could be. After that, the pounds came off slower, and for about 10 weeks I mostly just stuck between 230 and 225...then 225 and 220...then 217 and 222. I realized that although I was weighing myself daily, I hadn't been tracking my foods. I think that's mostly because I started eating in restaurants almost exclusively, as my wife has been battling breast cancer. At any rate, the last few weeks it seems like the weight is falling off again. This morning I was 209.4, and I've changed my goal weight from 205 to 195 for no reason other than that I think I can do it. I can't believe I've actually lost more than 100 pounds. I've been eating a ton of Jamaican jerk chicken, and at least once a week I get a six pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade- so I guess I'm not "following all the rules," but people say I look 10 years younger, I feel great, and I pretty much eat what I want, just a lot less of it. No doubt this surgery changed my life for the better and I'm thankful for that. Thanks for all the great posts and the wealth of information here. I don't read daily anymore, but I certainly do read them regularly. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

4 days post opp/ extreme hunger

If I recall correctly, I felt "hungry" too for a few days after surgery. I think it was just my stomach starting to heal. I am generally not bothered by hunger now and can easily forget to eat a meal here and there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Metabolism after surgery?

I'm six months out yesterday, and I've been stalled at 15 pounds from my goal for about a month and a half. I'm SLOWLY losing now...I started at 311 and my goal is 205. Eating about 1400-1600 cals/ day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Hard to believe it's been three months. Today I hit 70 lbs lost. Starting Weight: 311 Surgery Weight: 292 Weight Today: 240.2 Weight Loss: 70.8 lbs Target Weight: 205 My favorite NSV is buying and wearing normal clothes again. I'm a regular XL now in most shirts, and I have a brand new pair of 38 jeans that are actually loose on me. I'm eating mostly what I want, but what I want seems to be mostly Protein and low carb...with some exceptions lol. Thanks to everyone for all the great posts that have been a huge help. Did you sweat less after surgery?

I was freezing for about a week after surgery. Then things normalized. But now that you mention it, I DO sweat less Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. Get some cottage cheese or Greek yogurt or Protein drinks or, what used to do is get Chinese dishes with no rice and put them in a blender. I definitely would not be eating noodles or Pasta often. Still feel bad when I eat those Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    50 pounds gone

Tomorrow will be 7 weeks since my surgery, and I think I definitely made the right choice for me. Right now I'm down 50 pounds from my high weight (311), and 30 since surgery. 56 more pounds to go and I'll be at my long-term target of 205. So far I've had two stalls - one of them lasted a week. Sometimes at restaurants I fill up faster than I'd like, but I'm getting used to leaving food on my plate. I'm tired of Protein drinks too, but they are working out great for me despite the fact that I find them repulsive. Right now I'm sipping a Syntrax fuzzy navel flavored drink for Breakfast. Anyway, I feel like I'm on track. Thanks for the forum. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  21. For everyone wondering what to expect, this is what I've experienced 30 days out and where I am. Your results may, and probably will, vary. But at least this might give you at least some idea what to expect. I think my experience is not atypical. High weight: 311 Surgery wt: 292 Current wt: 268 Lost 43 lbs Target wt: 210 Virtually no pain after surgery, was back at work Monday after Wed procedure. I had promised my fiancé that I'd "dance" when I woke up from surgery and, sure enough, I was able to shuffle and wiggle enough when they stood me up to be able to make the claim that I did a dance in the recovery room. Weird pain in my stomach for 24 hours one day last week. I think I bruised it somehow, maybe by trying to wriggle around in the crawl space under the house fixing a leaky pipe. I track everything obsessively. Walking an average of 8000 steps/day. Eating 925 cal/day average; 66 carbs/day; 104 protein/day. Still on BP meds and PPI. Really want to get off the BP meds. Eating mostly what I want, but what I usually want is Protein. That said, I've had small amounts of all sorts of things I like, from cornbread and grits to a small piece of birthday cake. The only problem I've had was a steak skewer, which went down like swallowing an old shoe. I figure this is a lifestyle change, not a diet, so I should enjoy the things I enjoy, except now in moderation and as part of a plan. I also read this board daily. Great stuff and very helpful when I have questions. This community is an excellent resource and I'm glad I stumbled into it. Thanks to everyone for all the information and experience here. 24. So when I had my sleeve done 6/8, I recall asking the nutritionist if I'd be able to eat regular food for our family's annual 4th of July trip to Vegas. She assured me I would. So flash forward to last Wednesday, my 3 week surgiversary and the day before our trip. I'd heard about 3-week stalls and I was a little apprehensive, but I was 39 pounds down and feeling confident. This weekend I had only one Protein drink. I ate pretty much what I wanted to, including a frozen lemonade and a slice of key lime pie. I had oysters and fish and ribs and chicken and even a little potato puree and some grits with my redfish at Emeril's. I had a Philly cheesesteak slider, but I did not eat at Craftsteak, which didn't disappoint me anywhere near as much as I'd expected. I even had a pretzel dog in the airport when our flight was delayed. No other way to say it...I overate and I was waaay off my diet plan. A couple of times to the point of feeling uncomfortably full, and once to the point of throwing up. Also, since I know it's a topic here, I should mention alcohol. I tried two adult beverages, and neither of them sat well. Both were, in fact, unfinished. I'm not normally a drinker, but when it's 106 degrees outside and you're at the pool paying $15 for a frozen lemonade, virgin or not, you figure you want your money's worth. I definitely got more bang for the buck from the virgin drinks. After all that I came home and I'd gained 0.6 pounds. I'm about to go to the deli across the street from my office and get a scrambled egg with cheese. Time to get back on track and over my totally self-induced 3-week stall. Truth is, I'm looking forward to it, but I also know I've got to learn to eat healthy even in social and vacation settings or I'm not going to feel my best. That's going to be a struggle for me, because I've always linked so many happy memories to food. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
