  1. I have 2 under my belt, 4 to go with the last one set for November 1st. Praying for quick approval and surgery mid to end of November! Going to discuss results from endoscopy on the 5th to get a final decision on surgery type. Hoping for the sleeve but will take bypass if that is the verdict. Just ready for a healthy rest of my life!

  2. I am blessed, apparently. Have not had any nausea or vomiting so far. (I'm 3 1/2 wks out) But I am an first born rule follower, so have not strayed from the plan one bit.

My surgeon does an endoscopy about 1 month pre-op to check for H pylori, etc. He says he doesn't want any "surprises" during surgery. Guess I appreciate him even more now.

I am an only child so I tend to have first born philosophy too. They did and endoscopy on the 8th and confirmed I DON'T have pre barrett's syndrome so I should be able to have the sleeve! Very thankful! Hoping for a mid to late November surgery.

  3. I don't think they will but yes, call your account rep and verify. Typically it is like coverage requirements from previous insurance but this is not technically a medical necessity from their standpoint. I would ask before you go through all of that. Good luck.

  4. Okay....seemingly good news today. Had another endoscopy and there was no evidence of pre barrett's syndrome. No hopeful the bariatric doctor is satisfied and I can get the sleeve vs. Bypass. If I had no choice I word do the bypass but my preference is the sleeve. Now, psych eval next week and then the only thing left to complete is the 6 months of nutrition consults to qualify for insurance. Oh....did I mention that my max out of pocket for medical is $2500 and I am at $1900 already? ????

  5. I had settled on the sleeve but in looking at my endoscopy from last June, Dr didn't like the evidence of pre barrett's syndrome so we are doing the endoscopy tomorrow for confirmation. I was very freaked out about the bypass as it didn't make as much sense to me. But the more I read about it, the more at ease I am becoming. I am just READY to be done with this, have a surgery, and meet all you people on the loser's bench! Shooting for November.

  6. @@Armygalbonnie,

Boy, is that ever NOT a ridiculous question! You’re trying to make one of the most important decisions of your life, and dumping syndrome is a serious concern. I would try to weigh dumping syndrome versus the other aspects of the sleeve versus bypass.

Dumping syndrome is a risk with both types, but a bigger one with the bypass. However, not everyone gets dumping with the bypass, and often you can prevent it by eating right and avoiding the foods you discovered caused it. It also will probably diminish or disappear with time, so it may not be something to fear for your entire life.

Then weigh the risks of dumping against things like how much weight you can expect to lose, whether you prefer a surgery that will include malabsorption (gastric bypass) or not (sleeve), and the effects on things like long-term maintenance and health conditions such as blood sugar control. Good luck!

What's malabsorption and is that bad? If I don't have a choice and I have to do the bypass is that still okay? I just don't like the idea of losing that choice. BUT I am sick of being fat and at 54 years old I am just done. Already very active and do Camp Gladiator at least three times a week. However, at some point my body won't be able to do that and my metabolism is shot to lose weight on its own.

  7. I am starting to read some things under the bypass forum and it kinda freaks me out. I was hoping for the sleeve but the presence of pre barrett's syndrome may force me to have the bypass. I know the surgery is still being done but I almost feel like I am now not able to choose. I can't be constantly nauseous as I am one of our top sales ppl. I can't miss a lot of work just trying to get healthier!

  8. Here's my question. I have UMR which follows UHC guidelines but when I set my second nutrition counseling I asked how soon we could set next one. Get words were not any sooner than 28 days. I started counting and that gets me complete end of September. Sooooooo I am asking if we can submit once that last session is done! Any experience from anyone with that?

  9. Hi guys, I was wondering your experiences regarding hair loss. My surgery is in 2 weeks, and one of the BIGGEST things I'm worried about is having Hair loss with already thin hair.< /p>

-- How severe was your hair loss on a scale from 1-10 (10 the worst, and 1 not much at all).

-- At what month also did you see a decrease/stoppage of hair loss, and re-growth? I mean did you guys notice your hair feeling back to normal?

For those of you who didn't have much hair fall, can you please relate to me what you guys did? May be hard to believe but I am a vegetarian, and I'm just worried if my hair fall will be even more extreme after the surgery because of this?

    Thank you all!

I am still pre surgery but my dr told me to make sure I get the Minimum Protein for a women of 80-100 gms per day and the hair won't be an issue. I have also seen people tell they took Biotin as well. Hope that helps.
