Hiraeth reacted to brennafaith in PRE OP DIET
Hey guys my surgery date is Dec 27th. I was ordered to start my liquid diet the 13th , today is the 19th and I'm finally fully sticking with it. I had some issues in the beginning, where instead of one bowl of Soup a day; I would eat two a day etc. Not cheating bad but cheating is still cheating. I'm here to tell you after 2 / 3 days on it, it honestly does get so so so much easier. I'm doing great now on only two Protein Shakes a day & one serving of soup. I looked for a discussion about PRE op diets everywhere on here it feels like and couldn't find one.. so I just wanna tell anyone who's reading this, you've got it! Fight your cravings through the first few days and I promise you it'll get easier.

It will definitely be worth it! What are you dealing with as far as being miserable? The only thing I dealt with was slight headaches. I wasn't as hungry as I expected to be. Remember to drink a lot of Fluid. It helps with the hunger.

Same here, girl! On a scale of 1-10, my libido is usually between a 9 and a 12 (off the charts, ha!). But I didn't want to have sex for at least 2 weeks afterwards. I was just too tired. I'm not sexually active right now, anyway. But even if I were, I still wouldn't have wanted it. But now that I'm almost 5 months post-op...

I had sex a week after a C-section. My husband wasn't too keen on the idea, but I told him to lay on his back, put his knees together, tip his hips, and shut the hell up.
    He did as told.
I unintentionally sprayed him with milk.
    I did not take pictures.

I too am also on my pre-op I'm 2 days away from surgery and I feel much better than I did when I first started. I've lost 8lbs and I couldn't be happier that it's finally here. I'm glad to have found this website to read about other people's experiences. It's good to share with people who have gone through or are sharing in what your going through.

@@theantichick You're right, the word "cheat" isn't the best word to describe it. I guess the only "cheating" I'm doing, is cheating myself by not eating correctly. I think a lot of it is that my mom keeps insisting that I go out to eat with her. I notice that when I'm not around her, I make much better decisions. (I was stalled a few weeks ago. I came out of the stall by losing 2 pounds when I wasn't around her!) I'm not putting the blame on her, because regardless, it's still my fault. I'm just very easily influenced by her, and also her boyfriend. This weekend, he brought Christmas Tree cakes to our house and told me to get one. I said, "No, I'm good. Thank you." But he KEPT ON. He even got aggressive, and I know he wasn't being mean, but he said, "Get your ass up and come eat one!" I know he was just kidding, but I didn't want to be rude and say something I'd regret. So I took a bite just so he would leave me alone. Once he was out of the room, I threw the rest of it away. food like that is something I used to LOVE. Now, it's not as enjoyable and I'm so glad.

Thankfully, I will be moving out in January or February. Then my mom and her boyfriend won't be able to pressure me to eat like them. I promised myself that I would do better. I'm only 4 months and 2 weeks post-op, so I'm sure I have enough time to improve again.

Also, does anyone have any good ideas on Protein Water that tastes like juice or crystal light?

Did you have to do a
Barium swallow test after surgery? (That's where you drink this god awful stuff and X-ray your new stomach to check for leaks.) I had diarrhea for a good week post op, I talked to the PA and he said the barium is a laxative [emoji15]

I love the Roadside Lemonade flavor of Syntrax nectar. There are other fruit flavors, but that's the one that I really like. Especially frozen into ice pop tubes. Some people like Isopure, but I didn't care for it at all. I also tried the Atkins ones I think they're called Lift, and they tasted odd to me. But tastes are funny, you know? Just try to find things where you can buy just one and try it so you don't get stuck with a case of something you can't stand. I bought samples of everything I could pre-op.

I'm taking my cue from @@LipstickLady and removing the word "cheat" from my vocabulary unless it's regarding a card or board game. I make choices about my food, period. I am also keeping in mind what I've been told that during the "honeymoon" period, we're not driving the bus. The weight will come off for the first 9-12 months almost regardless of what we eat. It's the habits we ingrain now that will determine if we can keep losing if we want/need to and maintain our intended weights long-term. I sometimes worry if some of the choices I'm making are good ones for the long haul, but I am still improving so as long as it's progress I'm satisfied.

Yeah you see on this board many people just don't read what I post and that is screwed up. You said it "if you are in pain then there is something wrong". I am probably going to the ER near me to get it checked out. I have insurance so it shouldn't be a bad idea. I got the revision about 8 weeks ago. It could be from caffeine and coffee but I don't think that can do that to me. It feels like I pulled a muscle in my abdominal.

It really frustrates me when a doctor refuses to acknowledge that there's a problem. If you're in pain, there IS a problem. So, you're still having pain even though you've gotten the sleeve? How long ago did you get the revision?

I'm down 40 pounds, and almost to my 1st goal. According to my BMI, I'm still considered overweight but if I don't lose another pound, I will be just as content. Had an awesome NSV last week. Was talking to a stranger outside and was shivering from the cold. I had never met this person before so they had no idea what I looked like pre-sleeve and he said "well of course your cold, you're too skinny not to be"! First time in my life I've ever been called skinny!!

I wish the doctor had told me which ones. That's what I get for going to Urgent Care, lol. They thought it was alarming enough to check for Hepatitis, so I don't know what that indicates. I don't have Hepatitis, by the way. She did see Hep B antigens, but only because I had the vaccine.

It can also depend on which enzyme(s) are elevated. Some of them are specific only to the liver while others are found in other tissues too (like the bowel) and can reflect trauma such as surgery.

That's unusual, in my opinion. scales in doctors offices usually have a max weight of 400 (some even go as high as 700). I'm sorry their crappy scale made you feel this way. But don't worry... To me, you really aren't that big. Be glad that you have decided to begin your journey at the time that you did. Also, another thing to consider... You are very tall. So you won't need to lose as much weight as most people. My friend is 5'10'', and at 200 pounds, she looks very healthy and curvy. Now, if I weighed 355, I would have to lose 230 pounds, because I am so short, lol.

I packed my phone, phone charger, and extra clothes (for when I got discharged). I honestly didn't really need anything else. I was out of it most of the time because I was on Dilaudid and Hydrocodone. You'll most likely be too sleepy to do much.

I had to do it for 7 days. I didn't feel dizzy, but I did get a headache (it wasn't severe). Did your doctor tell you to avoid sugar completely? Your blood sugar might be low. Also, try your best to stay away from good food. Don't let yourself be around people who eat the good stuff. That's when it gets hard.

When you say "whole house smells delicious" do you mean that you are smelling the food your family members are eating? Too bad they can't refrain from eating around you. I'm sure fruit won't be bad to eat. My doctor didn't give me that kind of diet plan. He just said to drink liquids for the first 6 days, and Clear Liquids on the 7th day. Your doctor must be trying to ween you off of sugar, carbs, and caffeine (which is a good idea). You'll do great!

It's funny to me how different pre-op diets are, I am only allowed one small meal of Protein and veggies a day, and other then that 2-3 Protein shakes. I might do my meal at lunch since it seems to be harder during the day.
HIraeth-I agree it is annoying. My husband is diabetic and even telling his coworkers that and they pressure him to eat sweets. He actually got mad at one coworker yesterday because she was pestering him so bad. I have learned to accept the treat and casually dump it in the trash, leaving a crumb or two on the plate/napkin on my desk and then people seem to be more ok with you passing on things because you already indulged. I work in an open office with A LOT of people and it is NON-STOP this time of year. If I wasn't using my sick/vacation for my surgery in two weeks I would have requested the time off
