Candygyrl got a reaction from Frustr8 in Not drinking water with a meal?
I'll be 5 weeks post op tomorrow. It was embedded in me from the beginning that eating and drinking at the same time would no longer be possible. I couldn't imagine that. However post surgery-- I was hard pressed to get anything in so it becomes a conscious effort. I've been working hard to under eat my sleeve and not waiting until I feel uncomfortable to stop. I will prepare a very small amount of fluids like ice Water, diluted apple juice, or cranberry juice and after my meal I will take 2-3 sips of something for my own personal satisfaction and sense of normalcy. It doesn't bother me a bit. Again this only works if you have learned to under eat the sleeve otherwise I could see you getting too full and feeling uncomfortable.
For example I will not eat more than 1/4 cup of Soup, chilli, cream of wheat, I can probably tolerate 1/3 cup now but I won't push it. I save the extra space for those 2-3 sips that I like to take with my meals. I may take 1 sip in the middle of my meal and 2 after-- just to wet my whistle lol!
I also drink from a straw with no problems, and I drink soda on avg of 1-2 times a week. NOW let me clarify, I don't drink a whole 12 oz can. I don't even drink 4 oz. I may have 2-3 sips just to give me the taste. I have no desire to drink an entire can of soda or whatever but it's nice to get a little taste once in a blue moon. It doesn't make me feel like I'm deprived and I still feel in control. I haven't had any this week, and I probably won't.

Candygyrl got a reaction from FatToPhat in Six weeks out from surgery with limited weight loss. Ugh!
I didn't read all of the comments but I just want to say what an amazing job you've done so far!!!!! My surgeons guidelines indicate 20-40lbs in the first 6 weeks is fairly standard. Some people don't even lose that much but I believe in the end of the day it all adds up just the same. Don't be too hard on yourself. Based on your eating plan-- it sounds like you've got great options. Give it time. Log your weight from week to week. I have done that since surgery and I notice a pattern. I'll have a week where I lose 5, 6, or 7lbs and then the next week it seems the scale hardly moves. The week following that I might have a 2 week loss and then another 5-7 lb loss. I take that as the body is calibrating-- making necessary adjustments. If I didn't do that, I think I'd stress out on the weeks where I have a 0.2 lb loss. When I can look back over time and see trends it makes more sense. Consider measuring yourself and understand weight loss happens in different forms. We like to call them NON scale VICTORIES. Stay on the right path. Don't get discouraged and remember if you're doing all you're supposed to -- it's got to go somewhere. 1 year from now all the highs and lows will be a distant memory. Slow and steady wins the race.

Candygyrl got a reaction from Orchids&Dragons in Need encouragement that not everybody gains back all of the weight they lost after gastric sleeve
Your concerns are most certainly not uncommon. I am just 2 years shy of my surgiversary and I will say although I have reached my goals, I'm far from safe. I've had set backs, gotten a little too comfortable at times and I had to have a hard look at myself and say "this" is how it all began. Now lets get back on track. Its about constantly being aware, and mindful about we eat, our activity and forming healthy habits that allow us to make the right choices.

Make it fun! I'm going to Jamaica in a week. I am looking forward to wearing swimsuits all day. Because I know we indulge on vacation, I started a cabbage Soup detox.. 2 weeks ago and I love it! I lost a few lbs and now that Its over, I am still eating lots of the foods allowed on the plan. I've regained control of my appetite and I feel less inclined to make bad choices even when I know I can. My husband literally put 2 pints of Ben and Jerrys cheesecake icecream in our cart to make sure I indulge a little sometimes lol. I haven't touched it yet!

Understanding that I had a issue with food at some point and I may always struggle with those issues keeps me aware at all times that each day is a new opportunity to change my life for the better. The choice is yours. Don't let food control you.

Candygyrl got a reaction from ladygg1967 in You know you lost weight when
When you can no longer shop in your favorite plus size stores anymore
When you and your 12 year old and raiding each others closets
When you reach a weight lower than your hubby and kids
When you buy Jeans from fashion nova in a size 13 (juniors) and they are a little loose so you buy another pair in an 11 and when they arrive you realize you could have gone down 1 more size
When you don't have to try on your clothes anymore when shopping. You can pretty much eyeball it.
When you wear clothes that were purchased as a NSV award during previous weight loss attempts and they are now too big
When people see you and say I want to look like you

Candygyrl got a reaction from Aginn10 in You’ve GOT to be kidding me?? Weight GAIN?
Our weight fluctuates from day to day depending on the time of day, time of the month etc. As long as you're doing everything right stay focused and don't worry about the scale that will all work itself out. I weighed myself weekly and I did this consistently for 14 months. I noticed one week I'd have a 1-2 lb loss another week .2 lb loss another week I'd be up 1.5 lbs then one week I'd lose 3.2 lbs. Watch your sodium intake as Water follows salt. Make sure you're drinking enough water, and make sure you are also measuring yourself. If you're working out consistently 5 days a week, then I wouldn't be surprised if that weight gain is muscle but maybe you've lost a few inches instead.
Let the scale be your guide to help you stay on track with your goals but dont' let it ruin your day. We've all been there. Keep up the good work!

I understand why you must feel this way it can be a little irritating I guess. I love it! "I have to say you look absolutely amazing" "what are you like a size 4 now?" I love it ALL . I think most people have good intentions so I don't feel offended. You'd be surprised how many people won't speak to me anymore. Its weird so I appreciate the ones who praise me and tell them I have inspired them. Keep it coming I say.

Candygyrl got a reaction from Apple203 in Success 2-3 yrs post op?
Not quite 2 years out but 6 mos shy. I do get hungry its not ravishing hunger but I think a normal signal letting me know its been awhile since I've eaten. Long gone are the days I could go an entire day before realizing I haven't eaten a bite!! I still have pretty good restriction depending on what I eat. I work a desk job so I try not to eat much during my work hours. I keep it light for Breakfast maybe a yogurt, or cup of fruit, or a breakfast smoothie depending on what I'm feeling like. lunch is super light like a 1/2 cup of Soup or a side salad. I may have a afternoon snack (whatever is left over from lunch) and then dinner. I made turkey chilli w/ cheese on Tues for the fam so we'll have that for the next few days but I didn't eat any last night. Hubby and I went to the gym for the first time in a while-- I came home showered drank my Water and got ready for bed. I figured it was too late to eat so why mess up my workout.
But then I'll have a day like today I treated myself to a starbucks peppermint mocha, then I had chipotle burrito bowl for lunch HOWEVER I notice my restriction big time when I try to eat something like chipotle. I was done after 4 forkfuls. I guess with the blackbeans, chicken, steak, and brown rice it doesn't take much. I just feel like I hardly touched it-- which is a good thing! I'll eat a little bit more this evening when I get home that will be dinner for me and give my daughter the rest SHE'LL be ELATED I'm sure and then off to the gym with hubby.
Hoping it will be the same 2-3 5-10 years from now.

Candygyrl got a reaction from ThickGirl5683 in WHATS THE LONGEST STALL YOU'VE HAD???
I know we're talking about stalls but I'm 16 months post op and have maintained my current weight give or take 3 lbs depending on time of the month since about my 1 year mark so I guess you could call it a stall-- I don't. My goal weight was 145. My birthday was 10/25 I got down to 146.8 was hoping to get there as a bday present to myself. BUT I'm at a point where I'm not going to sweat over these little lbs. I look great, my clothes fit amazing in fact I need smaller sizes. I have dress pants that I bought last year (size 8) slim fit so they were nice and snug for a while but now they have a relaxed fit and I could stand to go down a size. I ate 2 cupcakes my birthday week. Most of my indulging was in the form of the bubbly stuff (champagne) but otherwise I am back on my high Protein kick. Doing green smoothies in the am no meals after 7 pm and now I need to get back to being active. I think if I hit the gym 4 days a week for the rest of this month I'd easily hit goal. But I feel like I am goals. I just want to keep it that way.

Your 2yr old grandbaby doesn't care if you eat cake - just needs you to be there AND be there for years to come.
I never pay attention to what anyone is eating at a bd party, too busy watching the kiddos open presents. You can always volunteer to take the photos. Or clean up, then go in the kitchen and take a few bites of your planned food, come back out with a drink in your hand and look busy. Fake it.

Candygyrl got a reaction from Julie norton in Ladies, what do you consider your ideal dress size ?
SO in my head an ideal dress size is a 6. That's also the answer I believe if you surveyed 100 random women in the street they would say. I'm currently a 10, sometimes an 8. I can buy dresses from Fashion Nova in a Medium and they fit great.
@Kathy812 I'm glad you commented about regain. As I'm getting closer to my goal I need to keep this in mind although I hoped to maintain my weight within 5-10 lbs of goal by going slightly under so when or if I gain, I'm still at or near my goal weight.

No and maybe I am a rare breed or maybe I hit a weight that I am happy with I don't know but I'm 1 year out and I NO longer see myself as fat. I haven't for quite some time. Once I hit about 175 lbs I saw myself as normal. Now at 148 with 145 being my goal weight I do not see myself as fat. I actually see myself as skinny. Some would disagree. I bought some items online several months ago. This one shirt a white button up off the shoulders French cuff I ordered in a medium. When I received it I could not fit my pinky finger into it and I thought I was small then. the shirt ran small. I was convinced that this was a shirt that I'd never wear and I didn't feel bad. I said this is actually too small I probably couldn't wear this in high school and I was 120 lbs soaking wet. Well a few months later like late may I tried it on once more before I gave it to my 21 year old cousin and it fit like a glove! I'm thinking is this a joke? I CAN FIT THIS!!!!??? That was a moment that I would remember. My skinny shirt. Keep working hard everybody! Hopefully you can come to accept your new body! It was a gradual shift for me-- and then an aha moment. Im sure its different for everyone.
