    protein powders

I like the Inspire brand from Bariatric Eating. They have lots of flavors. My favorite one is the Vanilla Bean.
  2. I just ordered from Panera for lunch yesterday. I love that when you make modifications on the app, it updates the nutritional information for you. This is what I had and then the nutrition information: I did the Pick 2 option. Option 1: A cup of Homestyle Chicken Noodle soup. Option 2: Half Asian Sesame Salad with Chicken (without Wonton Strips, Cilantro, or Almonds). Nutrition: Soup: 60 Calories, 8G Carbs, 6G Protein. Salad: 110 Calories, 7G Carbs, 2G of Fiber, 11G Protein.

New w/ questions about weight loss and excess skin

I started out somewhat close to your size (243 at 5'5") and I'm 25. I've been losing weight slower than most people and so far, I think that's why I'm mostly ok in the loose skin department. I have a little bit at the top of my breasts but that's it. Of course, I have about 40 more pounds to lose though. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Nobody comments on weight loss?

I'm very open about my surgery, so I think that's why people I know feel comfortable commenting about my weight loss/how hard that I'm working out. Getting comments isn't always a great thing though. It can border on condescending after a while. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

Always Make Sure that Your Insurance Covers it FIRST!

I had 2 insurances at the time of starting my program. My surgeon didn't accept the first one, so I couldn't even get a consultation until they verified that my second insurance covered the surgery. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

When did your weight problems start?

I developed early (I got my period at 8 and I had to get a breast reduction at 13), so I was always slightly bigger than kids my age. I started getting debilitating back pain at 10 because of my large breasts and I was no longer active. The weight started piling on fast. By age 11, I tipped the scale at 200 pounds. By 12, it seemed like I put on 20 pounds over night and I was diagnosed with diabetes. I had further weight issues and health problems as I got older. I finally got my bypass last December, a month before my 25th birthday. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone having RNY to help gastroparesis?

Anyone having RNY to help gastroparesis?

I actually didn't find out that I had Gastroparesis until I was already in my 6 month program to get gastric bypass. But I was told that it would help. Although my first 2 months were a bit rough with the nausea and vomiting. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Insurance Weight-loss Worries

I had a 6 month program and even though my a1c improved (I was following my diet and exercising), I put on weight fast! I had gained 20 pounds out of nowhere 4 months in! My thyroid was checked during month 1, so they hadn't thought to check it again. (Not until I was close to the end and we figured out I have an underactive thyroid). I got sick after month 4 and I ended up dropping 17 of the 20 pounds that I gained. But I still put on a few more pounds after the loss because I hadn't started my thyroid meds yet. I came in at 239 and I was up to 246 at my last appointment before submission. (I wasn't 100% sure that they were going to submit me. They were considering making me stay in the program longer to drop the weight). They ended up submitting me anyway since my diabetic numbers improved drastically, they found that more important. I got approved and then I lost 3 more pounds on my 2 week liver reduction diet. Sorry this got so long. I guess my point is that it first depends on your surgeon/bariatric team and and how they feel about it. Also if there are certain other health issues going on. Good luck! diabetes meds after surgery?

This seems to be the case for a lot of people. I'm 6 months out from RNY and I'm still on one oral medication (it was 2 pre-op) and insulin. My insulin dosage is about half of what it was before surgery. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

50lbs in 5 months is that bad?

I've lost 50 pounds in a little over 5 months myself. I know that if I compare that to other people, it seems low. But I was told that I'd be considered a slower loser comparatively because I had a lower BMI, so I tried my best to prepare myself for that. I don't get too focused on the numbers because I'm following my team's plan and I know the weight will continue to come off even though I'll still have stalls. The amount of pounds I've lost in this short amount of time is the most that I've ever lost and I'm so proud of myself! I'm also over 50% of the way to my goal and that's what's most important to me! So, as long as you're doing what you're supposed to do (sticking to your plan) then you'll be fine. Stalls are inevitable, but so is the fact that they pass. Weighing Food

I weigh everything so that it's easier to track my protein, carbs, calories, etc. I still listen to my stomach regardless. Just because there's 2 oz. of meat on my plate doesn't mean that it's a guarantee that I'll eat all of it. Or if I think I can eat more, I will weigh out another ounce to make sure that I'm not going over the 3 oz. meat limit that my NUT has set for me. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

  18. I got my surgery 4 months ago. I've been diabetic for 12 years now. Before surgery, I was on insulin and two oral medications. I'm still on insulin and one medication. My numbers are a lot better though. My latest A1c was 7.3 from 14.1 last May. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

    Heartburn Post-Op?

Despite being diagnosed with reflux, I didn't experience heartburn pre RNY. But now I'm experiencing it even though I take Protonix twice a day. I'm currently experiencing an episode that has lasted for several hours and it’s pure agony.

    Diabetic and a1c #s

I was required to do a 6 month program period before I was eligible for surgery. I got my A1c done at the beginning of that 6 months and it was high: 14.1! I was told it had to be below 10 by the end of my 6 months and it was.

    Panic Attacks?

I'm not 100% sure exactly what's going on with me, so I'm going to try my best to explain my situation. I got the RNY 2 months ago almost to the day (my anniversary is tomorrow) actually and I've experienced struggles like nausea, lack of appetite, etc. which is pretty par for the course so far. My issues with nausea, getting in fluids, Vitamins, and Proteins, etc. had me feeling weak and tired constantly. Having to get IV fluids earlier this week helped put into perspective that I have to do better. My situation was eye opening, but it wasn't particularly scary or traumatic. I've definitely been in the hospital for worse things and I've felt worse physically. But I can't stop thinking about the future and the consequences of continuing to not get in enough fluids and Protein. The thoughts are literally scaring me to the point of having issues staying relaxed and sleeping well. It's almost as if I think that I’m in immediate danger or that I’m going to die or something soon. I think the idea of suffering and THEN dying is giving me more anxiety than actually thinking about imminent death itself. This probably sounds silly, but every day I feel scared and worried. I'm doing better about things but I'm not quite meeting my Fluid and protein goals yet. I'm sure this is all exasperated by the fact that I don’t have a job or a regular schedule (I stay at home all day) so I have a lot of time to spend alone with my thoughts.

    Portion Size Progression

How do you know when you're able to eat more? I'm almost 3 months out from my RNY and my NUT wants me to be able to eat about 3 oz. of meat and 1/2 cup of veggies at my meals. I don't experience hunger and I have unfortunately over eaten a few times trying to force myself to meet my protein goal. I can usually only get in 1-2 oz. of meat (shredded chicken and those salmon packets seem to go down easiest and I can get more of those foods in) at a time and I usually don't even have room for veggies. I get in about 60g of protein (20g from protein water, sometimes I need more from my water though on days where I'm sick or I just can't eat a lot). But I know I need to eat more because my calories are low. I barely crack 400 calories most days.

    HFLC eating plan

What kinds of things are you eating to hit those numbers?
  24. TheGirlInThePinkScarf

    Portion Size Progression

If I drank my whole bottle of protein water, that would give me 40g of protein. But my NUT last time I saw her told me to only try drinking half a bottle each day. She really wants me to try getting in most of my protein through food. I eat yogurt every morning for breakfast, but that’s it. I don't know what to eat with it. I'm going to ask my NUT for suggestions when I see her next week. I don't like the texture of cottage cheese. I usually eat 3 times a day (every 4 hours) but I think I can stretch that out to 4 for now.
