  1. THAT'S THE ONE! Thanks Blaze21! :scared2:
  2. Hi I am starting to get organized for my surgery on June 23. There was a list someone had posted, of things to have on hand for post op. I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know where it is? I remember they suggested gas-ex strips and that's where my memory stops! Can anyone help me? Thanks!
  3. Mr. Hooper Words cannot express the heaviness we all feel in hearing of your wife's passing. I am sure we will all think of her often, and when we do those of us who beleive that there is a living God will also lift you and your family up in prayer. By posting Denyell's story here you may very well have saved the lives of others who would otherwise have negleted to heed their own warning signs. I know I will now be extra cautious. Those of us that have had to weigh the dangers of this surgery with the reward of gaining our life back understand that Denyell took the risk in the hopes of having a future of health and joy with her family. May you lean on God for your comfort at this time, for if you do you will surely be comforted. Thank you and God be with you and your boys. Debbie B.
  4. Sadie Thank you for sharing. When I pray about it and dream about it, that's how I hope it will be. What a blessing indeed!
  5. Hi all, I have not worked outside the home in several years. I have always enjoyed being able to just be there for my husband and family, so it has never bothered me that I didn't have a career. My husband (of 36 years) is looking to retire from the grocery business, and we are in the process of starting a real estate based business together. We have a daughter who has blessed us with two awsome grandaughters aged 10 and 7, and we are currently eagerly awaiting the birth of our first grandson in aprox. 2 weeks! :crying: We live in the central valley of California with our beloved pets, Dutchess Weeniefred Tiara (dauchound), Scooby No! Velvetrears (yellow lab), and Little Bit our Tabby cat. I have steadily gained weight over the last 20 years or so, and to use a quote from yessindeed, I'm glad we can all "band together"! So let's go guys, "Let's Git 'Er Done!"
  6. Hello to all U Jazzy Junes! Hope everyone is doing well as we prepare for our upcoming transformations. Now you two Maria's, (Mariamomof2 & Maria-mom of 2 ) About the fatty liver, it is definitely reversed by lowering your fat intake and losing weight, but gardengrl, I would make sure to mention it to my surgeon. I am still laughing about gardengrl's remark about her husband having food on his brain, but not on his body. Our group is getting sooo Big! We will have such great support from each other!
  7. Welcome to all you new Jazzy Junes! Yesindeed we have the same Band date!
  8. That's great news Cathy. "God is good...All the time"
  9. Cathy (finally spelled your name right!) I'm sorry to hear about your recent problems. That would be scary. But I know you know as a person who believes in prayer that these things always seem to happen for a good reason. It's good this happened now so they can deal with what might have been a hidden danger to you during surgery. I will remember you in prayer. I'm confident that the Lord has only good in store for you!
  10. Thank you thin2bme! You were so sweet to do that. I appreciate it very much. I will pass this on to my friend.
  11. Thanks PRTazLUVA, I'll pass that on to my friend. This particular call center used to be a Cingular Wireless before it went to AT&T, and 6 years or so ago they did pay for WLS, then probably due to A LOT of people getting it done, they stopped paying for it. United Healthcare says it is a covered benefit, but AT&T won't pay for it??
  12. Welcome YoungNY, leepizz, and ImGonnaLose! We have an awsome group! Full speed ahead! Sorry, I can't help you with that ticker or Jazzy June thingy, I haven't taken the time to figure it out either....
  13. Does anyone have any information that might be helpful for at&t employees with united healthcare ins. in California, getting their surgery covered? My friend works at a call center where she is required to sit all day, and you can just sit and watch all these ladies gradually gain weight over a period of a few years, and naturally they pick up a few weight related medical problems along with the extra pounds. And wouldn't you know it, AT&T does not allow coverage for WLS?! Does anyone of you know ANYTHING that my friend can do? Thanks so much.
  14. Hi Maria I had tests a few years back which found I had the fatty liver. I'm sure when you get your pre-surgery tests it would show up. You probably don't have anything to worry about though, at your age. Those cookbooks you mentioned would probably work great. Lap banders are told to focus first on protein, then on vegies when eating, as good nutrition is very important on such small portions as we will be eating. Bad things can happen such as hair loss, and even in extreme cases, death. My surgeon has done over 400 lap band procedures and only lost one patient, and that was due to mal-nutrition. So, it is very important we don't waste valuable "pouch" (name for our new little stomach's) space eating junk foods which have little or no nutritional value. Boy! Just listen to me! I am way too bossy, huh!? I'm talking to you like you are my daughter! :smile2: I know you will do great with your band because you are focusing on proper nutrition. You have a good day too!
  15. Hi Maria I have jumped through all the hoops now, except the last pre-op tests which won't be until the last few weeks before surgery. I was with the nutrtionist for a short while before I knew we were not on the same page. She seemed to have some issues with fat people. So I said what I knew she wanted to hear and turned to other sources for my nutritional education. This site is an awsome source of information. I haven't tried eating w/o drinking during my meals; I am using all my will power to stay on my current eating program. I have a fatty liver and if I don't drop a significant amount of weight (to shrink my liver) I may have to have the full open surgery instead of laproscopic. My advice? Do what the experts advise you and don't listen to what people say works for them if it is contrary to what your doctor advises. I will enjoy sharing this adventure with you!
  16. Hello Maria Welcome. We have the same surgery date! Are you going to add your name to the list of people being banded in June? Something started by Cathy chats. We can all support each other.
  17. Hello Kathy, Thank you for fixing that. I'm sorry I messed it up.
  18. Goofed again..........I'm goin' to bed

  22. Hey! I got my date! :tongue:June 23!! How can I become a Jazzy June!!!???
  23. Hi Anne Welcome to the site. I also have Health Net HMO; I am still in the process. My (I hope) last hoop to jump through is my nutritionial evaluation which is tomorrow, then they will send for auth. from ins. I was not required to get any nutritional history on my eating habits. Maybe because I have YEARS, or dare I say DECADES of diet memorabillia ranging from weight watchers record booklets to eating and exercising journals. Keep hanging around here, there's tons of info and support. These people are very supportive.
  24. Karey Quilts You questioned whether it was obsessive to want to continue having work done. I, like you and many others on here have spent our youth’s fat, and we want to salvage as much of that time back as possible. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I was fat in my late twenties, my thirties, and fat in my forties. I missed a lot. Now that I have this chance to really lose the weight, I want to turn back the clock as much as possible. I want to erase what time has done to my body as much as possible, so that ten years from now I can look back and know I salvaged at least some of my dreams. And I don’t think we should be judged by how we look. Good or bad. Period. It’s our choice. We can choose to have PS or not. It’s OUR choice. I’ll never be in my 20’s or 30’s again, and I want the rest of my life to make up for what I was cheated out of in my younger years. So after I lose my weight I will be looking into PS. Especially after seeing your after PS pics. You look really great and now I know (hopfuly) I can too. :rolleyes2:
