Cooking for rest of the family
I am the main "cook" in my family. I use cook loosely because I am far from being a "real" cook! lol Any who, do any of you find it difficult to cook for your family right after surgery? I'm still a ways away from that but I'm just curious how you handle the situation after surgery. I have 4 boys and a hubby to cook for.....4 teenage boys I might add!

The straw that broke the camel's back
I'm 42 and have been overweight most of my adult life. Hell...I was an overweight teen! Any who I decided that I was tired of being overweight and trying on my own. Obviously, I can't do it on my own! I don't have any other medical issues except for GERD and low back pain which was caused by a work accident but is made worse by my weight. I have always secretly wanted this surgery but never had looked into it until recently.

First appointment went well!
I had my initial appointment today and things went really well except the phlebotomist had a little trouble drawing blood cause I was so cold. Unfortunately had to be stuck twice. My insurance requires 6 months supervised plan by PCP or 3 months with NUT. I plan to do the 3 month option. I also have to have a psych evaluation and my surgeon requires a current pap and mammogram. He does NOT do the preop liquid diet....yay!!! He wants to do an X-ray to rule out hiatal hernia and I have to have an endoscopy since I'm opting for the RNY. I should be able to have surgery in mid September/early October. So excited to get this journey started!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The great straw debate!
Just had initial contact with NUT. My team recommends waiting 6 weeks only because a straw can cause burping and burping can hurt! After that straws are ok...so they say. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I just quit smoking
Congrats!! I quit about 8 years ago when I had breast reduction surgery. I had to use Chantix because my surgeon said NO nicotine at all...not even Patches or gum. Haven't smoked since. One of the best things I've ever done. I still have moments, 8 years later, where I think about smoking but the smell turns me off totally plus when I was quitting the last one I smoked made me SUPER sick and I never want to feel like that again! Best wishes to you!! You can totally do it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What are/were you looking forward to being able to do post-surgery?
I am looking forward to crossing my legs again. I am also looking forward to walking upstairs to my office without being winded. I can't wait to go shopping in my own closet. I have sizes ranging from 12 to 20 in there and I refuse to get rid of any of it. I WILL get rid of anything that is too big for me after surgery. I am looking forward to being able to tie my shoes and bend over and pick something off of the floor. I can't wait to take a picture and actually like it! Wow...I could go on and on about the things that I am looking forward to!

Week 1 post op but can stomach solids...
Just my 2 cents but you can't tell a person's "tone" as you keep referring to in an online post. Maybe you're just being a little over sensitive and reading into things too much. But again, that's just my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm torn..
I'm in the same boat. I have occasional heart burn that requires OTC medication but other than that no other issues. From what I've been researching, I'm leaning more towards the bypass. Good luck with your decision! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What can I expect?
I have my initial appointment on Tuesday. I was told that this appointment would be 4-5 hours in length as I would be attending a seminar and meeting with all of the staff. How long after meeting with surgeon was it before you knew that he was going to accept you as a patient? My insurance requires 6 months weight loss plan OR 3 months comprehensive plan (meeting with NUT and psych etc. on a regular basis). Do you think there is a chance I could have the surgery by the end of October? We have just about hot our deductible so my out of pocket expense will be much less if done by then. Considering surgery
Hello everyone! My name is Jenn and I'm 42 and live in VA. I have been overweight just about my entire adult life. Right now I'm at my heaviest....even when pregnant. I'm 5'3" and 238#. I go for the initial consultation on Tuesday (5/31). I've contacted my insurance company and they do cover the surgery. It looks like I will have to be on a supervised diet for at least 3 months. Looking for any advice/tips/wish I would've know from anyone that's been in my shoes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
