April 2006 Bandits
Heather, it is VERY important not to eat or drink before surgery. It can mean your life! If you had something to eat or drink it is possible to aspirate into your lungs while under the anesthesia. You definitely don't want that to happen. Not to worry, they will take good care of you. Roberta

Question about "Telling People"
I decided to only tell my son's and their wives, and my dh. I've told a FEW friends that I have to have surgery on my stomach which is true. As far as eating less around people, well......I had stomach surgery so I have to be careful what I eat. I am a very private person and I share very little of my personal life with anyone. That's just me. But again it's a personal decision and you need to go with your gut. No pun intended. Roberta

Linda, I am so sorry you had to go through that ordeal. You definitely are a good daughter. Emotionally you must be drained. Funny, I was just wondering how your surgery went and looking forward to hearing how you feel now. Bummer. I am glad that you still have the possibility of having your surgery this month. Hang in there. Glad your mom's friend is doing better. Roberta

What size do you want to be?
Wow outstanding weight loss in 3 months. I hope I can do as well when I get my band. Roberta

What size do you want to be?
I don't think it's realistic at my age to try to be a size 8 again......but a size 14 would do me. I've been thin all my life until I hit menopause. The last 10 years I've been over weight. I'm 5'5" and 270.5 lbs now. Yikes!!!! Roberta

April 2006 Bandits
There are basic tests that MUST be done before banding. Endoscopy test to make sure that you don't have any underlying problems with your stomach, especially an infection there. You would never know it without the test. Gallbladder ultrasound to make sure you don't have any stones. Better to have them take it out at the same time as your banding then to require another surgery later. Blood work to make sure you don't have a metabolic problem which the band can't help. EKG test to make sure your heart is alright. So you see these tests are important your life is involved. Plus your surgeon has no learning curve, he is going to "practice" on you!!!!! PLEASE TRY TO FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR. At the very least, demand to have these tests done.

April 2006 Bandits
Thanks for the compliment Amourette but I am not the one who was kind enough to set up a list so we could see who our fellow pre-opers( is that a word?) are that were scheduled for surgery. It was a great idea and that list is getting longer everyday. Roberta

April 2006 Bandits
Yvonne and Audra I know you don't seem to be able to get the water in but you MUST keep sipping all day. The last thing you want to have happen is to get dehydrated. It has happened to other bandsters and they ended up in the hospital to get IV fluids. Roberta

Where Can I buy clear protein?
Hi, I just got back from GNC. I know this is really a matter of taste; but which flavors did you not care for? Thanks again for all your help. Roberta

Fiber please!
Have you tried Benefiber? It dissolves completely in drinks and soft foods 4g of carbs per tablespoon. Hope this helps you. Roberta
