Why do people harp on what other's have, or get? Seriously, the world isn't about you or being fair to you. I am sure if she gets government assistance you wouldn't want to trade places with her! In a better world we would all have government insurance and insurance rip off companies couldn't screw any of us, but as long as the "me, mine" attitude is all we care about, instead of caring for the "least of our brothers" we will get screwed. Divide and concur and fear is what keeps the insurance CEO's and drug companies super rich.

I had my surgery June 16th 2016 and I am down 72 pounds . I am extremely happy with my decision even though after surgery I experienced vomiting throughout the summer and ended up having my gall bladder taken out in August . I really feel like having the sleeve was the best decision I ever made .

vegbeth reacted to blizair09 in How does everyone deal with the social pressure to eat while eating out?
We've only been out to eat once since my surgery, and it was when I was still on liquids. My partner and our good friend had some steamed seafood, and I asked the server to bring me a chilled glass for my Protein shake. I explained that I had recently had bariatric surgery, and then she asked me a bunch of questions because it was something she was interested in herself. We got excellent service for the rest of the night.

Thanks, butterflywarrior, I wish I had thought the stress test through before doing it. It didn't occur it would exacerbate my foot issues but was concerned about my knee that has no acl. Lesson learned!

Well the bad foot seems to be getting a little better but now the other foot is getting worse. I would think with all the psychical therapy exercises and stretches I'm doing that that would not be possible. It seems like I will be living with pain for the foreseeable future. I'm still trying to manage this medically but decided that perhaps I needed counseling as this whole issue is completely depressing me. So I've got an appointment with the counselor that they had me meet for my pre-surgical requirement. I think it's fitting its on my birthday as well. Another step toward taking care of myself. I really need someone else to talk to about all of this, not just my foot, but all my concerns about surgery. The therapist actually had surgery herself! The assistant in my dr office also told me she had surgery and spent lots of time on the phone answering my questions. It was great to talk to someone who had done it. I know I can get through all of this and emerge a healthier and active person. I just need all the support I can find, here and in person, to get around the roadblocks on this journey. On the positive side, I'm already having to get rid of clothes that are to big and fitting into clothes I haven't worn for years. I'm going to have to get a new winter coat!

Well folks thanks for supportive words. My foot is very slowly starting to feel better. Thanks in part to my finding a second doc who didn't send me home to wait 2-3 months for my custom orthotics to come in. He built up my current orthotics to provide better support and gave me a prescription for a anti inflammatory that my stomach can actually tolerate. Still in pain but I can feel it's getting better.

vegbeth got a reaction from swimbikerun in Are there other vegetarian/vegan sleevers?
Hi. I'm also vegan and would be willing to take a survey. I've been a vegetarian for 30 years and became a vegan about 14 years ago. I'm really concerned about how I can eat post surgery (that is vegan). I don't have a date yet but hoping for late fall. I just downloaded Gary Davis's first book but so far haven't seen much encouraging a vegan diet or much guidance on this. Is Proteinaholic more enlightening on this aspect?

I've had plantar fasciitis a couple of times in the past, though this is different from the last times. I'm pretty sure I've been misdiagnosed this time. I'm going to look into the Rolfing and astym also. Thanks for the info. Although I know weight wasn't the only factor, after all I do work mostly on my feet, I'm hoping loosing will help.

There is a reason for the pre-op, so please stay on track for your health and safety. If you are still a few days pre-op then get back up on the wagon and stay on program. I can tell you that post-op is more intense because you are healing so cheating then can have painful/serious complications.
    just sayin'
    16 plus months post-op...down over 100lbs,

I use lose-it and it has a way to put in your recipes, pick a number of servings and do the calculations. Works great. Bonus, I have a chart of my weights for the past ten years.

vegbeth reacted to WLSResources/ClothingExch in Question about incision scar
@@christinah, maybe, maybe not. It remains to be seen. As @@Browneyedgirl41 indicated, some people get raised scars and others don't. Keep in mind that no all raised scars are the same. My lapband port incision healed to a raised scar. I suppose it's considered slightly raised, but it is reddish.
Do yourself a favor and don't overworry. Vanity is one thing, but don't make yourself miserable. Given the choice between a raised scar and obesity, which is less problematic?
You'll still be lovable and someone will be happy and honored to kiss your scar. Your elbow, too.

There is always a friend here for support, like picking up the phone. Also, all the information you need. Hang in ther, you are doing an amazing job for yourself, and my husband and I did the sleeve without anyone knowing also. I am glad you have your friend. She will also need you to comfort her, so take care of yourself. A hug and a prayer.

Instead of turning to food, why not turn to your strength that is evident, the part that guided you to lose weight, research and pursue sleeve surgery and get treatment for the foot problem? You're feeling worn down which is understandable. You're allowed a day to chill and feel sorry for yourself. Then it's back to taking care of what needs taking care of in a logical sequence. You don't have to do everything in a day.
I think you already see that you have support in BP. As to in-person support groups, Boston, with lots of hospitals, is a good place. Call around or check their websites to get the meeting schedules. I've heard of only one bariatric practice in the U.S. that bars patients of "competitors" and that is somewhere in the Midwest. Some groups are well-organized and run by knowledgeable staff, others not so much. You'll decide which you'd like to attend again.
