This was me last Thursday (6/9) morning before checking in for my sleeve. I weighted 312 at my 1st surgical appointment and 289 the morning of surgery. Right now I'm home trying to get all of my fluids and Protein in. It's so hard.

    Hi all,
I'm also so glad for the OP posting this I'm 13 days post op and everything has gone really great. The only pain I ever really had was first thing out of the op in recovery from the gas- which after "something to help" from the recovery Doctor I was absolutely fine when I woke up in my room.
My program allowed 3 nights in hospital which although I didn't think I totally need it, it was very nice to be looked after I didn't need any pain meds during my stay- and I was able to toodle about my room and the hallway for little wanders about. My stitches were tender but absolutely fine.
The first days at home also meant first purées - I was so worried about all the horror stories about not being able to stomach foods that I was very apprehensive, but it's all gone down very well and I haven't felt sick once- especially when you stick to your measures. The only problem is maybe wanting to try a bit more challenging foods when you feel too brave but I know I have another week of purées so I'm making sure to resist the urge.
I've also been walking an average of 4-6kms a day this week to get my stamina back up (back to work on Monday )- I've really been enjoying my danders about and 10kgs down since the pre-op diet has even meant hills feel easier
One thing I need to stop doing is weighing myself every day- there has been a wee bit of a stall last couple of days which I've been disheartened about but I've realised weighing every day isn't a heathy way of monitoring- i need to focus on the "NSV's" like being able to walk up hills with out getting out of breath 2 steps in
I'm excited to see what the next few months bring.
    All the best everyone!

Hey all... Been awhile! Actually about 3 months! Let me tell you this has been a game changer for me so far. I have gone from my heaviest weight of 336 at the end of last summer, to my surgery weight of 316. At 3 months post surgery, I am at 246!! I am almost 100 lbs lighter and healthier now!! I feel better than ever, and I have way more energy! People are constantly double taking me now, as they don't recognize me at first. Hell, my own mother walked right by me one day, as she didn't recognize me from the back... Lol. Only drawback so far, is my clothes are now officially gone and I have to buy a whole new wardrobe, but for the first time that I can remember, shopping is fun! I can now go into name brand stores and buy my size off the rack, and not have to go into wal-mart or the big and tall store!
I am excited for my doctors 3 month appointment this Thursday as well, which I always dreaded! I have another 25 to 50 more pounds to go. It's definitely not easy by any means, but it is so worth it! I eat so healthy now, and so does my family. Plus losing weight rubs off onto others and they start trying to better themselves, so that's some good karma as well...
If anyone is reading this and thinking twice about surgery, fear not! GO FOR IT!
Like so many others on this forum have said before, my inly regret is that I just wish I would have done this years ago!

I couldn't sleep at all the night before surgery and I was super nervous. I had never had surgery at all and the idea that I was paying someone to cut out 80% of my stomach forever was terrifying. In the end it's a little like going off the high dive...you just have to keep walking and jump.
I spent the first 1-2 weeks convinced I had ruined my life and feeling miserable. I spent the next 2 months reasonably sure it might be working. It took me 18 months to hit goal and I have been at goal now for 9 months. I love my 20% of a stomach and having the surgery was something that I am very glad I did.
Good luck to you...just jump, it will be worth it in the end.

brighteyes377 got a reaction from Maggie143 in 4 days post op and having a hard time drinking soo much????
I was sleeved June 9th, too! I have been able to get my Protein and fluids in since day 5, but I have shooting pain sometimes. It's feels like I need to burp, but can't. I'm able to take pills per my doc so thankfully I don't have to smash up any pills. How much walking are y'all doing? I try to walk around the mall or Wal-Mart but get very clammy and have to stop after about 30 min. I assume it's due to the very limited calories. Drinking is the hardest part...ugh.

brighteyes377 reacted to James Marusek in Pouch already stretched at 6 weeks out?
After RNY gastric bypass surgery, weight loss is generally achieved through meal volume control. The limits on meal volume are normally set by the surgeon's office. These requirements may vary a little from one doctor to the next. I am unfamiliar with the regiment that your doctor has set. The volume seems high to me. So I was wondering if you had a different operation such as mini-gastric bypass instead of RNY.
On the other hand you indicated a weight loss of 42 pounds in 6 weeks which is a good amount of weight.
I do not think you have stretched your pouch. The weight loss phase after surgery is relatively short and then you slide into the maintenance phase. My concern is that you might not maximize the amount of weight that you lose during this initial phase because you are exceeding meal volume requirements.

Something you said made me think- (bacon and pepperoni ) Like another poster said, maybe it's the sodium? Before my sleeve I was trying to eat low carb high Protein and I was consuming a lot of both foods because they are easy and I'm not too fond of chicken or fish.
I lost NOTHING. Actually I gained! Turns out I'm super sensitive to the sodium and nitrates in bacon and pepperoni. I've eliminated them from my diet and now I don't have to issues with retaining Water. I may have other issues, but that one is gone at least....
Try not to get frustrated (easy to say huh?) but I truly believe the correlation of stress making weight loss more difficult. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and I know I have to back away from the scale and see how my clothes fit (totally different). I also need to watch comparing myself to others- we are all different- starting weights, previous diets, medical conditions that factor in.
So, deep breath- you have got this! It's awesome you joined a gym. Good luck!

You may not be getting enough calories. Try changing things around. It could be too much sodium or even your period causing Water retention. Hang in there!

    10 years ago, I wore size 22-24.
Summer has arrived in TN (where it will last at least until Thanksgiving), and today I bought shorts in size 2. First I tried on size 4 and was puzzled to find them a little...loose...what, loose?!?! Then I tried on size 2, and they fit perfectly.
I've been thrilled with every pound lost, every inch lost, every size lost during my WLS journey, but never, ever did I dream I'd wear a size 2.

There are people here that drink diet soda. I don't think any of their doctors are okay with it though.
Drinking diet soda isn't going to kill you but if you have to drink soda, at least drink the good stuff sweetened with Stevia.
Also if you haven't had surgery yet and you are already thinking of ways to eat around your sleeve, well, good luck.

This reminds me a lot of the "how soon after surgery can I start smoking cigarettes again" question. The answer is never. The answer is never for a variety of reasons. You know the reasons, everyone else knows the reasons, and yet you will always get a few people here on the forums looking to be told it's okay to do. It is simply NOT okay, just like eating cake isn't okay after surgery and taking NSAIDS isn't okay after surgery.
However, it's your body. No one has any right to tell you what to do with it. Even the surgeon's orders end where your own decisions begin. Can you drink diet soda without getting sick? Maybe... some people can, as you've read above. Should you be drinking soda, smoking, drinking booze frequently, taking NSAIDS, eating donuts for Breakfast? Of course not. you already know the answer to your own question, and you may be hard-pressed to find many people here who are going to pacify you and tell you it's okay. The fact is, a couple of people here saying "Yeah I do it and I'm fine" does not even being to measure up to and be an argument against the multitude of biological and scientific reasons it is not safe or healthy.
In the end, you've got to make your own decisions. If you decide to eat or drink something that can (and probably will) be harmful in the long run, then you're also going to have to deal with the consequences. Whatever you decide, I truly wish you nothing but health and happiness. I know how hard it is to go through this huge change and not even have the little comfort food/drinks we used to love. Good luck!

I tried a sip and about barfed, it tastes horrible to me now and the small sip had me in pain for over 30 min with all the bubbles. I took the sip thinking it was tea but my boyfriend had got diet coke (that I used to enjoy)
Keep in mind some surgeons also say it is fine to eat mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese during the soft food phase......but if you choose to put healthy and only things that give your body nurturance then you can't be going wrong. I will tell you I have a friend who had RNY and drinks one a day and then it became more than that.
I know for me if I eat carbs or anything else it causes me to crave carbs and sugar even more, even just a small bite so I would proceed with a great deal of caution. I tried a few things that I wish I never reintroduced to my body. :-/

Have you tried premier Protein ready made shakes? I too could not tolerate any of the powders in the beginning. My Bariatric team had me pick up Premier Protein. Each 11 oz. shake has 30 grams of Protein with only 1 gram of sugar and 160 calories. They don't have that grit or nasty nasty after taste. The chocolate is the best as it is not overly sweet. The vanilla and strawberry seem sweeter to me and although I can drink them I pretty much stick to the chocolate.< /p>
If you have not tried them, they really are better for you than simply drinking a protein shot. They have other Vitamins and minerals as well.

This is the most helpful thing i have read this far. Thank you. It got me thinking maybe i should do just that. Set an alarm to eat, then i won't need to think about it. If start to feel hungry or crave I can just tell myself "alarm hasn't gone off" and think of something non food related. Thanks again, i was beginning to feel judged not helped.

Sorry to hear about your un-birthday. To hold back because they want to respect your new lifestyle is one thing, but are you saying they totally ignored you? Someone could have said, "We know your birthday is coming up......what kind of celebration would you like to have?
The you would have had plenty of time to pick our brains for meal suggestions.
If you still want to get your birthday officially out of the way, make a microwave Protein cupcake in a mug and put some lite whip topping on it. All you have to do is take a scoop of Protein powder and mix it with one egg, a pinch of salt, and a tablespoon or two of Water or milk - just enough to make it like cake batter. Pour that into a coffee mug and zap it until it's done. My microwave took two minutes, but others might not take as long.
Happy birthday. Don't get in the dumps over getting older. It's better than the alternative. Hugs from Mis Mac in Chicago.
