I've always been a fan of www.lmgtfy.com for people like this, though obviously a different strategy is required for this specific forum.

Why'd you bother with surgery if you're going to continue eating junk?

Perhaps you should break your association of mindless eating you have to passive entertainment, instead.

I have popcorn very far and few between since surgery. 3 x's to be exact. Movie popcorn is not such a good idea with all the butter and salt that's usually in it. Don't do that to yourself. Eating before you go is a good idea, bringing Protein sources with you is also a good idea. Jerky, cheese, grilled chicken in a little sandwich bag, nuts. Or-- you could just bring a healthier version of popcorn like a skinny pop if you just have to have it. I know the smell is enticing but we must stray away from the behaviors and the types of food that caused us to gain weight in the first place. Was it all popcorn? no but its the concept of "I can't go to the movies and not have popcorn" mentality that has to be controlled. It could be a trigger food for you. If you feel so strongly don't go to the movies for awhile. It's not that you can never eat popcorn again but it's about doing it in the right way. The way that's healthy for you. Can you eat just 1 cup? Does it have to be loaded with salt and butter? Can you enjoy it the way it was meant to be? Do you have to have popcorn just because you are at the movies? Can you have a piece of fruit instead? Can you eat a well balanced meal before you go? Thoughtful planning vs mindless eating.

Again, that's her problem to deal with. Let her deal with it (or not, since most people like that tend to revel in it... )

I'm quoting this because I wish more people realized this information. The amount of people that work in these unprofessional work places is staggering to me. Most of these people and their co-workers are walking lawsuits. A good HR dept is not going to want you disclosing all this medical information to your co-workers. Your boss shouldn't want to know. If you have surgery then get passed over for a promotion or something, you can easily blame it on surgery based discrimination, regardless of the facts, and bring a lawsuit. No good manager wants to know all your business like that. People work for unprofessional untrained management that are opening their companies to liability on a daily basis.
I haven't told anyone but my super close friends I had surgery. People see how I eat and how I act. They never think I had surgery. They think I have changed my way of eating and I am sticking to it. Which is what happened and is true. If you eat properly and live an active life, no one will assume you had WLS to lose weight. However if you sit at your desk sucking the toppings off pizza, and never do anything active and are dropping weight like a stone that raises eyebrows. Most people believe diet and exercise work, the idea that it doesn't really work for people is beyond their comprehension.

I get a flu shot every year, 1) for my health, 2) for the health of some of my friends who have immune issues, and 3) for the health of the legions of old farts I encounter while cruising.
My PCP asked that I get this year's immunization before surgery, so that it will be effective in the recovery period. Also, she recommended a pneumonia vaccination for the same reason.

Fredbear got a reaction from The New Kel in What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
    It's been a process...
First I was pre-diabetic and given the "you need to test your BS, lose weight," etc. - and I went into denial for several years.
Then I was rejected for an operation because "your BS is not controlled." - and I grudgingly started meds... which made me gain even more weight (diabetic medications are evil that way).
After years of taking metformin, I get sent to an endocrinologist for additional meds, and eventually have to start self-injections (first Byetta, and eventually insulin). My A1C gets better for a while, and then worse.
Then I break my foot, spend 6 months in a boot, have surgery, and spend 3 more months in a boot. I get released from the boot (hurrah!) and realize I have to learn to walk all over again. During 3 months of physical therapy I end up spending a lot of money, both on the PT and having to buy my meds... so much that I end up meeting my healthcare deductible in the first three months of the year.
    But the final straws:
    1. While heading to our last exotic cruise, asking for a seat extender for the first time in my life, in First Class of all places.
    2. While on the cruise with my spouse (who is also large), on a bus tour through a hot, sweaty climate, I finally snapped and said out loud, "You know I love you more than anything in the world... but dammit, I'm tired of being physically pressed up against you anytime we travel anywhere."
And so I decided to pursue WLS once we returned to the states. On month 3 of my (wasteful, pointless) 6 month insurance requirement. We have one trip planned later this year (right before my probable surgery), and dammit that will be the last time I'll have to deal with being pressed up against someone (anyone) because I'm just too damn fat to fit completely in the seat.
