The EGD was a breeze for me. I went in they put me to sleep and I was up and out the door an hour later. I felt fine afterwards so that nothing to worry about.

    Hi Everyone,
I am scheduled for June 29 here in NJ with Dr. Sadek. I started with a seminar back in July then scheduled a visit with the surgeon for December. I always wanted June because I am able to take time off from work with no penalty. I have been to the nutritionist twice, gone to the pulmonalogist, cardiologist and gastro. I have been cleared by psych and have my cardiac tests this week and scheduled my endoscopy for May 3.
    I cannot wait!

I would just tell them "I can die driving but you let me out of the house to do that every day". Anyone can die doing anything. When its your time its your time. Tell them to stop being selfish and start making this journey about you and not them.

FromHer2Me reacted to sharonintx in Today I couldn't fit in the booth at a restaurant...
There's a restaurant close to my house that we have gone to over many years. My problem wasn't getting in the booth. It was trying to get out. It's one of those semi circular booths and you have to slide all the way around to get out. This particular table sits on a platform so it's about 10 inches to the ground once you get to the end of the seat and try to put your feet on the floor.
I'd have to slide around, kinda turn sideways at the end, then push myself out of there just to hit the floor. I always hoped no one would notice.
Now when we go there I slide right around and boom - I'm outta there. It feels so good to not have to bother with stuff like that. Other than the health reasons, all of us want to be thin to feel better about ourselves. To not suffer these indignities due to our size. You can do this....and take it from me and everyone else here - it's worth it.

Can I post here even though I'm beyond my 30's ? How about if I feel like I'm once again in my 30's ?
Had my 14 week visit recently.
First thing my surgeon said was that he was very pleased with the weight loss and he drove that point home really hard.
Then he switched gears and proceeded to beat my azz over portion size. Emphatically stating that I should only be eating 1/2 cup sized meals.....of Protein rich foods now. 1/2 cup. No more.
He made a tremendous deal over this. 3 meals a day. 1/2 cup each.
He said his reason for concern is that the habits we form now are crucial. He said that those who do not adhere to the plan and get these habits engrained in their daily life will not be successful. He's been spot on about everything else thus far.
I've changed up and stick to this guideline now.
I can "hear" the same concerns from your surgeon in that the initial months following the surgery are where we shed most of our weight and set ourselves up for the needed discipline required to live at our goal weight.
Getting lean isn't going to happen through magic.....although the lack of hunger and the wonderful restriction are close to magical. We have to do our part and choose the right foods, cease the wrong foods, exercise and save the money we used to eat so we can buy new clothes all the freaking time.
You can do this. Shift gears and get angry about it. Let the anger fuel your efforts to burn it off.
We have no excuses. Those were taken away when we had our surgeries.

Hi y'all. My name is Summer. I'm a 32 yr old married mama of 4 that is just starting my VSG journey. I have spent the last year with my primary trying to loose weight and lower my BP with very little luck so she referred me to Texas Bariatric in Rockwall and I have my first consultation on April 11th.
I have struggled with my weight for 22 years. I was always 50+ lbs over weight as a kid with being 160 lbs in 6th grade. At 24 two years after my 1st son was born I was at my highest weight of 398 lbs and wearing size 26/28 pant and 4X top. I was at home with a 2 yr old and a deployed husband and basically didn't eat for the 15 months he was gone and lost weight getting down to 225 lbs. Within a few weeks of him returning I got pregnant with baby #2 and then had #3 & #4 all within 4 yrs. I have tries every diet out there, joined a gym, worked out 1 to 2 hrs a day 5 times a week and I loose 20-30 lbs only to gain it right back and sit where I am at every time. I currently have back issues, high BP/hypertension, sleep issues, Migraines and knee issues.
I am really excited to start this new journey, get healthy, loose this weight and be there for my kids.

FromHer2Me reacted to Papa Jack in 5 years out & gaining weight - please read
I was sleeved almost 5 years ago. I love it. But I my weight was climbing back up. I was up to 203 from 172. I was having nightmares about my weight coming back. I notice some people would look at my belly before making eye contact, like before. Well my wife came back from her check up in Feb and was told her cholesterol was 345. Her Cardiologist ( from India ) told her she was a heart beat away from a heart attack or stroke & needed to go on a vegetarian diet. Well our daughter told us to watch "FORKS over KNIVES" made in 2011. It saved her friends life. So we watched it on Netflix. We were stunned. First thing you think of is "why is this information not getting out to us?"
You are taught If you put good stuff in your body, the body will fix itself. The problem was we did not know what the good stuff was.
My wife got up & we cleaned everything bad out of our kitchen & went to the store. ( No gimmicks to buy.)
We went back to the Cardiologist 2 months later. He told my wife was in STAGE #2 of Heart disease. We told him we were following the Forks over Knives way of eating. He stated this, "THERE IS NOTHING I COULD DO BETTER THAN WHAT YOU ARE DOING. YOU WILL CURE YOURSELF." Then he wanted to take blood work to see the changes.
RESULTS: Wife Numbers WAS 345 New 171 Cholesterol, Her BAD cholesterol was 233 New 71, Lost 25 pounds.
Mine: 190 old New 134 weight was 203 now 175.
If your cholesterol is below 150 you are heart attack & stroke proof. The doctor took my wife off her meds!
Two friends are doing this after I gave them the movie to watch. The are losing weight & both were taken off there diabetic meds. IT CURED THERE DIABETIC PROBLEM. There blood work will be done this month.
This is a healthy lifestyle to eat. You eat all you want. No counting. No worrying about anything. Just eat the healthy stuff as much as you want.
There is a second DVD on Netflix "PlantPure Nation". The doctors go to a town in NC and put volunteers on the Whole Plant Base food for 20 days. The results of blood work in 20 days will surprise you. The body fixes itself fast. This is information that should be taught in school.

Hi all, thought I'd share my weight loss journey so far. Back in 2004 I weighed 136kg and am 180cm. GP in the UK wouldn't approve SAGB on NHS so I self funded the operation at a hospital in the South of France. Operation went well, weight loss went ok, got down to 90kg. Gradually had complications, slippage and erosion. Weight up to 116kg. Had a revision from band to sleeve in the same operation in Australia 2 years ago (2014) got down to 84kg with the sleeve, sleeve stretched, partly due to poor shape of the sleeve due to the damage done by the band, crept back up to 103kg. So I finally stumped up the courage to go for the full bypass. Had it 2 days ago at a weight of 103kg. Spent 1 day in hospital, discharged this morning at 10am now back at home after spending just 36 hours in hospital. So far so good. Slight pain only 1/10. Came off pain meds already, slight gas pain and pain under left rib area. Tolerating fluids ok. Had 1.5ltr yesterday. Not much appetite. I'm hoping all is going well and will continue to do so. Third time lucky and all that :-)

I work in a hospital and yes there is always a risk any time you go under the knife. But even knowing the risk (and taking care of some patients that have had complications from bariatric surgery) I know that the benefits outweigh the risks. Obesity has such negative impacts on ones health and has been proven to cut short so many lives. I truly think this surgery will help me live a longer and healthier life.

I asked for counseling for emotional eating - which I am realizing I don't have as much of an issue as many others - and I'm finding that it's helping in other aspects of my life too. First time in counseling - should have done that years ago too! Lol

Not only mandatory therapy for post ops, but also for spouses/S.O.s.
Just think of how many relationships could have been saved if the sleeved and their main support person were on the same page going in?
    My opinion.

They also want to know that you're prepared. My psych asked me to tell her about the procedure and what they physically do (removing 70-80% of the stomach), what the nutritional focus is after surgery (protein), how the diet is structured after surgery (liquids, soft foods, full food), and what Vitamins I'll need to take.
Other than that she just wanted to make sure I don't have any mental or physical issues that would preclude me from having the surgery.
    It's relatively painless.
