SilentBotts got a reaction from nawar in The things no one tells you about post op life...
Tummy issues 2 - Before surgery, I used to be able to "hold" my poo (sorry if TMI) if I was in an inconvenient place (like work or the mall) until I got home. Not anymore. When I gotta go, I gotta go! And I cramp when I have to go. I actually have the exact opposite problem. I barely get any urge to go, if I don't make a conscious effort to go at least once a day I get very backed up.

I actually was able to tolerate steak which made me super happy. Steak was one of the things I was worried I wouldn't be able to tolerate. Going to try meatloaf with ground beef next week.

You can answer, "Either is fine with me.", when asked, "Would you like a table or a booth?"

SilentBotts got a reaction from KristenLe in TMI: My first BM
This was me about halfway through week two. I actually ended up giving my self a tear while straining, a ton of blood, and a panicked call to the Nurse at the Surgeon's office. She gave me a list of laxatives and softeners to get. I sent my brother a text which was basically "Leave work, go to the store, buy all of the things on this list that they have, or I will die here on this toilet." Took all day to finally pass and I couldn't believe how much there was, at this point I'ld been on liquids and Protein shakes for almost a month including pre and post op diets, no idea where it came from. My butt hurt for two - three days.
Also pay attention to the painkillers they give you, a lot of them make the stool hardening worse. I was on hydromorphone and stopped taking it after all of that happened.

I've had a ton of blood drawn as part of this process of getting cleared for surgery. I actually fainted when I had the pre-op blood drawn.

SilentBotts got a reaction from jane13 in Is It Necessary To Have Help At Home?
I would say if your are spending the first 2-3 days in the hospital and they are making you get up and walk around you'll probably be fine on your own.
I spent two nights and they had me up and walking around the recovery ward every 2-3 hours. Completely alone when I was at home and had no problems. I was also taking 1-2 naps a day and sleeping for about 10 hours the first few days home so having someone around would have been annoying.
This will be different for everyone so I would play it by ear. For me all post-op pain was centered around my large incision, and I had very little nausea or other gastric discomfort.

SilentBotts got a reaction from Tina4heath4ever in Does it always take 6 months to get a date?
I started the process in July of last year and surgery took place in March of this year. My insurance company required monthly visits with a nutritionist for 6 months and document weight loss. I also needed to have several consultations to get cleared for surgery. Cardio, pulmonary - which lead to a sleep study, a visit with the surgery centers behavioral psychologist, and also the sign off of the nutritionist and the surgeon.

I do full fat on everything but Milk, I do 2% milk. I've been drinking 2% for so long I prefer the taste to whole.
I also tried turkey bacon when making a quiche and it was not good at all, so just regular bacon for me.

SilentBotts got a reaction from Applebootom9 in What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
I went in for my first physical in something like 15 years. Being 32, weighing about 410-420 and having been overweight since grade school I was fully expecting some combination of high blood pressure/diabetes/heart issues. But nope, nothing, perfectly healthy aside from my weight.
Opened my eyes to how lucky I was and I couldn't really not do anything about my weight anymore. I had tried dieting, lost about 40lbs but gained it all back and then some within a year. All the info on the surgery I could find made it clear it was the best option.

I spent two nights in the hospital, discharged afternoon of my third day. The gas pain was there first two days. My biggest source of pain was my big incision, that stayed around for a few weeks.

    Congrats!!!
For the pre-op diet don't forget sugar free Jello and ice pops. Some surgeons will also let you have chicken broth.
I've been buying all my Vitamins and Protein through Amazon.< /p>
For Protein I like Premier Protein, it's 30g of protein in an 11oz shake, it's really easy to get down right after surgery and it only takes two shakes to hit your daily protein goal.
