My Dr had me on chewable Pepsid for the first few weeks post op.

SilentBotts got a reaction from justhere4theshow in Laffy taffy - skittles -starburst
I use calcium chews that are the consistency of startbursts and gummie Multivitamins with no issues. Been on the chews since right after surgery and switched to gummies after two months. So aside from the sugar if you aren't having issues with other solids I don't think the consistency texture is going to be a problem.
One piece of candy every now and again is probably not enough sugar going to cause issues for your stomach, but you wont know until you try.
I think the bigger issues is just that the primary goal post op is to meet nutrition requirements as efficiently as possible and also build better habits. I definitely go off plan every once in a while, I imagine every has their little indulgences. A spoonful or two of Peanut Butter, some cashews or peanuts, but I still try to make sure those things are helping me it my Protein goals, even if the calorie to Protein ratio is less ideal that my normal meal choices.
Candy is just sugar, it's one of the big things we are supposed to avoid. Just added calories. It can also be habit forming, you can't just buy five skittles, or one starburst. So if you get it, it's always going to be there.
I see a lot of questions about "When can I eat "fill in the blank junk food/carb food". I'm pretty sure we all have those cravings. I almost had a panic attack pre op when I realized I wasn't going to be able to eat pizza or Chinese for at least a year/year and a half if ever. Once we hit goal weight and enter maintenance mode I think it's ok to experiment a little with those things and see if we can have them without binging, without affecting weight/nutrition goals negatively. But it's something to be very careful with I think. Building good habits during the weight loss period I think is important with building control for later on.
So basically that's a long winded way of saying one or two small pieces of candy a week will probably not affect you unless your new pouch doesn't like sugar. Buuuuuuutttt it's probably a bad idea until you hit goal weight/maintenance mode and even then food like this should be introduced verrrry carefully and you'll need to pay close attention to how it affects you.

Yes, this! I sat down cross legged the other day and didn't even realize I was doing it at first. Then I just had a "huh" moment it was great. I'm also able to go from laying on the floor or sitting to standing so quickly now that I get a little light headed, which I had forgotten was a thing that happens.

It's really good that you can see it for what it is. I understand what you're dealing with. The last relationship I had been in before surgery was very emotionally abusive and manipulative. It took me months to see it for what it was. I realized that I was accepting so many red flags and terrible behavior because of two or three moments that I was holding onto. It was really hard to come to terms with the fact that everything she said and did to me was just about maintaining control, so she could use me for approval, sex, money.

I was going to comment about the Meal Replacement bars and the crackers as well. My info packet included a chart with a list of high Protein foods, with the amount of Protein and calories in one ounce. This is super useful, I've been using to stick to the most protein dense things I can find. Fish, chicken, eggs, cheese.

The surgery was actually super easy. I was really nervous while prepping, getting my hospital gown on, IV put in and all that. I was actually shaking once I got into the operating room. But man, that anesthesia is good stuff, totally calm after one or two inhales after the mask was on, then one or two more and it's lights out. Then you wake up and it's done!

SilentBotts got a reaction from missengineer in Not losing weight
Stalls are normal. There could be a bunch of causes. You're about two weeks post op so probably still healing, that will affect what you see on the scale. If you've started exercising you may be building muscle at a rate that it's affecting what the scale shows, but you'll probably notice you've lost some inches, those are sometimes a better thing to track than weight.
Our bodies also store fat differently for different uses. We have reserves for quick use that the body will use if there's a calorie deficit, which between surgery and the new diet you definitely have. Once those reserves are used up, the body will start burning normal fat, but it's also restocking those reserves, so while that's going on you'll still be losing but wont see a change on the scale.
It's basically a bunch of normal processes taking place, as long as you are sticking to your food plan, hitting Protein and Vitamin goals, and exercising you're going to do fine.
I'm three months out and have already had two stalls. First one was at week three, lasted for three to four weeks. Just passed the second stall lasted for about a week.

I had a cold the week before surgery, got checked out by my PCP and the nurse at the surgery center. They told me I was fine as long as I didn't have a fever. Not sure if that's different for UTIs.

SilentBotts got a reaction from reachbree in Snacks for Movie Theatre Ideas?
I usually plan my trips to the movies around a normal meal time so that I'm able to have a snack but still stick to plan. Until I could eat solids, my goto movie snack was a Protein Shake. Now that I can eat solids I get the chicken fingers. The breading means It's a little more calorie heavy than my regular day to day choices, but still good Protein. The 5-6 chicken fingers you get in one box will last me two meals.

I actually was able to tolerate steak which made me super happy. Steak was one of the things I was worried I wouldn't be able to tolerate. Going to try meatloaf with ground beef next week.

SilentBotts got a reaction from KristenLe in My surgeon says no protein supplements until week 5. Does this sound right to you?
That seems a little strange. I had to drink a small serving of Protein shake to get discharged from the hospital. They did tell me not to worry about hitting my Protein goal at first, but I was drinking protein shakes my second day home.

I have seen some plans that allowed crackers with things like tuna other potted meat. It seems like a strange allowance because it's just empty calories, and you're so limited in the early stages it would just keep you from getting enough of the good stuff in.

SilentBotts got a reaction from finding_onederland in When to tell Boss?
I would say it depends on work, and how comfortable you are with bosses/coworkers. I told most of my coworkers early on in the process while I was doing my NUT visits.
However, I specifically waited as long as possible, until I had a firm date for surgery and was approved by surgeon before telling my boss.
My boss had a lot of interpersonal and office etiquette/communication issues so I assumed she was going to make my having surgery weird, and man was I correct. She broke down, spent about 20 minutes trying to convince me not to have surgery. She just seemed terrified at the prospect of surgery. Tried to convince to me just go away on a retreat.

That's kind of interesting that they want you to have the DS. My surgeon told me that the DS is hardly ever done now.
My understanding is that the DS requires you to be under for a long enough time that it becomes risky for very obese individuals. They started doing the sleeve to get some initial weight loss in before the second part of the surgery. The sleeve was so effective that it started to replace the DS.
I would guess it's likely you'll do very well with the sleeve and may not need the second surgery.
What is your starting weight if you don't mind sharing? I had my first meeting with surgeon at around 405-410 and DS never came up as an option.

Tummy issues 2 - Before surgery, I used to be able to "hold" my poo (sorry if TMI) if I was in an inconvenient place (like work or the mall) until I got home. Not anymore. When I gotta go, I gotta go! And I cramp when I have to go. I actually have the exact opposite problem. I barely get any urge to go, if I don't make a conscious effort to go at least once a day I get very backed up.
