That's what diet coke does to me post-op. Makes the acidity in my stomach sky-rocket!

Hello.... I was diagnosed with hiatal hernia and GERD after an upper endoscopy 2 months ago. I was sleeved on 4/20/16 and was feeling pretty good a few days post op with just a little soreness - except I was really tired of all the broths and Protein shakes. Thinking that I just needed to get SOMETHING down, I cheated a little and started sipping French Onion Soup - strained of course. My stomach has been on fire for 2 days now. Like the no sleeping type of on fire... although I had been taking my Nexium faithfully every day. After several hours in the ER, 4 doses of anti-nausea/vomiting & a double dose of Protonix along with a CT to make sure of no leakage, I wondered if the onion Soup was the culprit? Onions (and other foods known for heartburn) obviously are not a heartburn trigger for all with GERD/acid reflux, but please be mindful of your diet and avoid any foods that will irritate your already angry tummy. It never crossed my mind since vegetable broth was clearly marked as an approved liquid.

I have UMR and once they received everything they needed their approval was very fast. Just days. I was sleeves on 4/20 and have felt better every day but today was a major turning point for me. Good luck to you both!

The pain was not as bad as I thought it would be. I stayed overnight after surgery and was given morphine every 2 hrs. I switched over to hydrocodone before leaving the hospital and my pain level got better every day. I stopped the pain meds altogether 4 days out. I do still have soreness but the pain went to discomfort to soreness very quickly. You'll be fine!

@@akaESKIMOkiss You're feeling a lot better today? I'm excited for you!
On Friday, UMR said they should have faxed an approval letter to my surgeon. Spoke with my surgeon's office this morning, and they NEED a mailed letter - so, i'm waiting to receive it or them to receive it. I'm hoping that my surgery date isn't months from now or anything.

Hey guys! I'm about 27 days out from surgery and was wondering.... Experienced sleevers, what you know now that you wish you knew prior to being sleeved?
What you wish you had packed for the hospital???
What you wished you had done to prepare, mentally, emotionally and physically?
    After you came home???
    Etc. etc. etc.
Gimme ALL the deets ... LOL thanks!

I appreciate the encouragement... so many here will see it as me taking the easy way out... not realizing that it isnt at all easy. I just can NOT self loathe anymore, i can't stand to see myself in a mirror, my clothes and body disgust me, and i cant even stand the idea of my husband seeing me naked... its really for all of us. My surgery is this Wednesday. I'm pretty open to telling people what I'm having done. Feedback has mostly been positive. Sometimes you need to do things for you and take care of yourself. In this case, you are giving yourself a gift, as well as giving your children a gift. You will be able to live longer and run around and keep up with them, which is what is most important - to be the parent they need. Good for you! Never feel like you need to explain your actions in regards to your health. You will soon be transformed and all will see the benefits very soon!

BUT! Lmao, I just added you as a friend on here because of this amazing sentence: "I'm on day 2 and all I can think about is tacos." SO funny!

Obesity is hard to beat especially because like you said, food is a huge part of some people's lives. When my mother got the surgery she was miserable and had many regrets but after 1 or 2 months she said she'd never go back. Once you start seeing all the benefits you'll realize it was worth it. My mother was so upset because when we went to resteraunts or buffets we'd eat like monsters and she could only nibble. Little did she know we were jealous because we wish we could control our eating and be losing weight lol

I am also scheduled for May 3th. I am nervous about starting the pre opt diet. I have been thinking about this, reading everything I can, watching videos on U Tube and soon it will my turn. Oh I can't believe the day will be here very soon.
