KittyCathy22 got a reaction from clovell in Regretting the sleeve so much and afraid I will die or have serious problems down the road
Im a 22 year old female who just got gastric sleeve surgery and am 2 weeks out. I feel like I rushed into this decision and regret everything wishing I had tried harder to lose the weight. I am now scared to death that im going to die either from not being to eat barely or will die young after having so many complications from getting 70% of my stomach removed and losing all those important hormones. Im so afraid of dying and want to still have kids and a happy life. The research online scares me so much. Also i read gastric bypass leaves ur stomach in unlike the sleeve that removes it. Someone please help me. This is consuming me everyday of my life

I am also 22 and had gastric sleeve on April 5th. I actually posted concerns like this on here about a month ago but have had not one complication since my surgery. The only thing that happened after was I threw up from all the pain meds and anaistesia. I don't do well with pain meds. I will be straight honest with you that it will be a very big challenge for you in the beginning but I am 3 months out and struggled terribly in after but am now doing better and do not regret my decision. I did horribly the first couple months but I truly know I would of ate myself to death if I did not choose this option. The struggle is all mental and I still deal with anxiety and depression but I have always had it but masked it with food. I am now forced to face my demons head on and not hide behind food but I feel like that I really did need that. I have lost 35 pounds so far and already have so much more energy and no pain in my back and neck. It will be scary at first but I promise you will make it through. 4 members of my family had gastric bypass and are 10 years out with no complications. If you ever need someone to talk to you can message me ❤

I'm 2 months out and can eat subs also. I do the same as you and eat half the 6 inch then wait a couple hours and eat the rest. My surgery book does not say I can't have bread. It just says to restrict it. I just feel like I eat a little less then a normal person but not even close to the amount of food I used to consume. I am still losing weight but it is a slower weight loss. Without the surgery I would of lost nothing and probably just gained so I will take this way over just gaining tons of weight. In my opinion I would go insane if I had to be cut off everything I enjoy. I believe my problem was Portion Control and I have a addiction to sweets that is alot more manageable with the sleeve because I am eating one cookie compared to 10. I think if you are eating low enough of calories to lose weight and getting ur Protein and Water in you are doing good. I'm not a doctor but a all Protein diet is way to strict for me so I'm a little more different. I know people wouldn't agree with me but it's the only way I stay sane. Good luck with your weight loss. I have lost 35 pounds so far and feel better physically but still working on the mental part ???? Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App

KittyCathy22 got a reaction from Juhygtfrdsd in Emotional struggle after gastric sleeve
Hello everyone. I'm a 22 year old female who just recently got sleeved on April 5th. I'm currently on the liquid diet about to be on pureed foods tomorrow. I just feel like I really need someone who understands what I'm going through because I feel I'm losing control.. I'm having a extremely hard time being able to get the recommended 64 oz of Water in and probably only get about half of it. It really is worrying me a lot and the fact that the Protein is just as hard. All i can think about is the new extreme boredom and emptiness I feel inside after my friend (food) was taken from me. I dont know what to do with myself anymore and sometimes just think of giving up. I feel like this was a huge mistake and can only think of how ill never be able to eat as much delicious food as I want again. Honestly my personality is totally changed and I feel no joy in anything anymore. I realized the reality that food was my only joy and it makes me so angry that I let it be so I had to feel this miserable. Will this ever get any better??

Dr. Pop did my husband's and my surgery and I assure you, that team did not let you down as far as preparation. They are all wonderful. I had some regrets in the hospital, but when I started seeing the scales go down, I have never looked back. Life is so great now, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity. Hang in there-it really does get better. I am really jealous that you got it done so young. I would have had so many more opportunities. Take care, Melissa

Ive lost 25 pounds so far which feels really good. Never been able to keep off that amount of weight in any other diet. Im now taking lexapro which seems to really help me feel alot better. I still have my moments where i feel extremely low but they are way less. I just take it one day at a time

So i am 22 years old almost 23 and had the gastric sleeve done on april 5. I have had the hardest time with this surgery battling severe anxiety and depression. Im 3 weeks out and feel i made a terrible mistake. Is anyone around my age afraid of the long term consequences of this surgery? I think about it everyday and my anxiety gets so horrible. I see a pysch but i think I really need a friend my age who has been through this. I would appreciate it so much

First, Calm down PLEASE. It's been only 2 weeks, and you are still healing internally (it takes 6-8 weeks to fully heal from the surgery). Right now it's real work just to drink enough Protein each day and get your daily Vitamins and supplements in (Not doing so will cause REAL health problems, so be vigilant)
Second, the hormone that was removed was NOT Human Growth Hormone, but Ghrelin, which governs your feelings of hunger. You will now age FAR more gracefully since your body will not be working overtime to carry extra weight going forward - your knees and hips are writing you a Thank You note right now!
Third, Gastric Sleeve removes Excess stomach but keeps your digestive tract in place and fully functioning. A Bypass would have reshaped your stomach and reroutes a piece of your small intestines. Your internet research got it backwards.
Fourth, as far as I have been able to determine, Sleeve surgery will NOT prevent you from having children. Just make sure that your GYN and your General Doctor are aware of your surgery before you try to have kids.
Fifth, your weight loss will be quick, yes, but not instant. Let your body heal, and your mind adjust to your new stomach. Don't lose your mind when you finally get to solid foods and you suddenly find that there are foods that you just don't like anymore or can't tolerate (Rice, Salami, and pizza in my case). My life isn't over, and I have discovered Salmon!
Remember that so many people on this forum wish that they had acted sooner for one simple reason - The Surgery WORKS. You are to be admired for your courage and decisiveness to reclaim your health BEFORE serious issues (that could have prevented a future pregnancy, for sure) became a part of your daily routine. Look for a Support Group in your area and talk to your Surgeon and Nutritionist. Again I say BRAVO to you for reclaiming your health and making the rest of your life a LOT better than it looked a few weeks ago!!!!
