I was 23. Ask them if the <1% of dangerous complications is scarier than the huge likelihood that being obese will kill you decades early. You may be young, but you are not stupid, and if you've made it this far and know that this is the right thing for you, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Can't tell you how many times I've heard or read "oh man, I wish I had done this when I was younger!"

Do what is right for you and your health. Your loved ones need to accept that they are no longer the authority in your life. They are now the spectators, and it's time for you to take the wheel. You can do anything you want, and you truly have an entire life ahead of you.

by the way, I've love almost 160 pounds since surgery 9 months ago, and the naysayers are too busy complimenting me to remember what they were freaking out about in the first place. Good luck to you! I hope you have the same success in the near future! Feel free to friend me or message me anytime if you're looking for someone our age to talk to. I would also be more than happy to friend you on Facebook, if you'd like (https://www.facebook.com/abbylynn113)

Hang in there. :)

I'm 22 and going to have my surgery soon (hopefully, I am into month 3 of my 6 month supervised diet...)

As far as I'm concerned, the complications with me continuing to gain weight is far worse, than me trying to have this surgery and better myself.

Any surgery could have complications. Every single time you have something minor they make you sign the same type of forms. It's your life not other people's. Take everything they say with a grain of salt and keep on moving on.

I suggest continuing to research and research until you can't anymore. It will put your mind at ease.

Remember why you're doing this. A better, healthier, happier you!

I am also 22 and had gastric sleeve on April 5th. I actually posted concerns like this on here about a month ago but have had not one complication since my surgery. The only thing that happened after was I threw up from all the pain meds and anaistesia. I don't do well with pain meds. I will be straight honest with you that it will be a very big challenge for you in the beginning but I am 3 months out and struggled terribly in after but am now doing better and do not regret my decision. I did horribly the first couple months but I truly know I would of ate myself to death if I did not choose this option. The struggle is all mental and I still deal with anxiety and depression but I have always had it but masked it with food. I am now forced to face my demons head on and not hide behind food but I feel like that I really did need that. I have lost 35 pounds so far and already have so much more energy and no pain in my back and neck. It will be scary at first but I promise you will make it through. 4 members of my family had gastric bypass and are 10 years out with no complications. If you ever need someone to talk to you can message me ❤

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
