Thank you for all the input and knowledge .. I work as a tech in the hospital on the surgical floor where bariatric surgeries are done none the less.
My friends and family say I can don't on my own and there is no reason for the surgery .. They just don't understand, but it makes me think what I'd they are right?
I know deep down I want it I just need to accept it and move forward. I am sticking to better eating habits, joined the gym and already drinking Protein shakes. I have my EGD scheduled to I'm moving forward.

As someone who has been overweight 15 of her almost 23 years of her life... I've tried everything.
Slim 4 life: I lost 40 pounds, but eventually it all came back.
Weight loss meds prescribed by doctor: held steady at a certain weight.
Weight watchers, different sports, dieting, etc. nothing.
    I exercise consistently 3-4 days a week.
I'm hoping this is what I need to have and maintain a healthy weight, and more importantly a healthy lifestyle.
Like someone above said, the numbers for people who are able to lose weight and keep it off ON THEIR OWN is slim.
For me this is a last resort. I've tried and had little success with everything else. At this point, I'm ready to move forward.

I have but never stuck to anything. I wasnt obese until after having kids. I never had to watch what I ate or exercise. I have tried to change but it was always short lived.. I see what you're saying about the percentage of people being able to do it on their own, but aren't the odds bout the same for keeping the weight off after surgery?

My surgery is Oct 5th and I had second thoughts/cold feet a few days ago. I just keep thinking about how I want my life to be one year from now. I want/need a drastic change, and I know that for me surgery is the only way it's going to happen and have a change of sticking.
TBH I kind of feel like I'm going through a breakup of my relationship with food. We had some good times and I get sad that I won't be able to eat like I did before, but really it's for the best to just leave all those unhealthy habits behind us and start a new healthy relationship with food.

Most of us don't have a problem losing the weight until you get to a certain point in your life and then it becomes much more difficult without intervention. That said only 5% of the people that lose weight through diet and exercise are able to keep the weight off.
It is also a fact that once you lose, your body fights against you to gain that weight back and a few extra on top of it.
You have to decide if you can lose it and maintain. It will require the same life changes that you will require post surgery. The biggest difference is your new tummy helps to manage the quantity that you eat.
Best of luck in your decision process.

Does anyone feel like this: if I change my eating habits and exercise, loose some weight is the surgery worth it? Maybe I can do this on my own? Maybe I don't need the surgery?

I feel ya honey!!! Omg I NEVER see myself as fat as I am...Reality hits when I try on clothes, see myself in pics, or catch a glimpse of myself in a full length mirror or window reflection...my first thought: "Dude...that's me?!!" ... then I get depressed & get even more self conscience & my anxiety kicks in & makes me think everyone is judging me
I AM SOOOOO READY FOR THIS!! Can't wait for them to call me next week w/ my SET SURGERY DATE!!! (Looks to be the beginning of November)....can't wait to shop for clothes that don't look (sorry if this offends anyone!) Granny-fied ...they think all big peeps want big flowers or print or jst UGLY clothing?! .
My main store I wanna hit when I lose weight... PINK!!! Love their glittery cute hoodies!!!
I have never in my life worn a pair of heels...so that's one on my bucket list too!! Can't wait to shop in normal sized clothing!! ????

I know this probably isn't the way to handle it but when I kept hearing that phrase at work (nursing) I finally just said in a strong voice, "I'm 5'3" and I weight 240 lbs and my BMI is 42! Each time the reply was "Oh" or "Oh really". No more negative from anyone. Just support. Not too much is private with me so it worked. But not for everyone

I know! I'm 5'8. My Aunt told me, we are just a "big" family deal with it! NO!! I won't.! You may, but not me. I like when I say yes I'm a fat, and need to get this weight off, and people say. You're not fat!! I'm like " are we looking at the same person? You won't hurt my feelings"!

You carry your weight so well... you're just tall...yea yea.... people just don't get it. I know, if the zombie apocalypse happened, I'd be the first to get eaten! I can't jog for more than 3seconds. I'm 8wks post op...gotta a long ways to go...but I am going to get lighter and healthier. I can admit I'm fat, why people around me can't, makes no sense!

Thank you for your words and advice! I'm not worried about eating down the road, I'm worried about eating enough calories to stay healthy in 10-20 years, etc. and the long term effects of the small amount of calories.
I guess that's why they have us take the Vitamins geared for bariatric patients!
I do plan on going in with the right mindset, I know it's just the nerves causing second guessing right now. I've lost 20 pounds in almost 3 weeks and sticking to my pre op diet so I know I can do it and once the surgery is over I'll feel better & wont worry about this so much.
Good luck tomorrow, post an update when you can!

My surgery is scheduled for Monday and I keep having second thoughts and then I read that people eat 800-900 at a year out, This bothers me because you read so often to eat a minimum of 1200 calories for health reason...
Is this healthy to do long term?
I know I'm just having cold feet but I'm questioning this new lifestyle.

Don't lie using gallbladder unless you are actually getting it removed. That may come back to bite you! I would take sick time rather than vacation. If you were to have any complications at all - you may need more time off! Many employers require 30 days notice so I wouldn't wait. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
