I thought my world would end for so long if I came out. I was from small town USA. What's interesting is my sister came out when I was in college, but I never thought id be able to. I was the perfect child. It was my closest guarded secret. But the week before surgery... I said fuck it and did my thing. Happiest I've been since I can remember.

I too, came from a small midwestern town... and Catholic... and a mother who opening said disparaging words about 'the gays'... as I look back, I could have come out of the closet better, then I did, but I haven't looked back and have been happier ever since, along with my husband of over 2 years and my lover for the past 12 years... I am truly a lucky man, as he has supported me through my decision and my transformation. am also lucky to have family (yes MY FAMILY) and some friends that love and respect me... Even my dad is happy about my husband (a son, he wishes he had... as he is much more handy, when it comes to plumbing, electric and general fixer upping, than myself or my two brothers)... To you all, I am happy to ready about your successes as we share this journey we call life!

I always liked women, had several crushes in fact...but always had male partners. Spent most of my adult life wondering too and wasted a lot of time being depressed about "wow, this is it, I'm married to a man & I will never get to experience having a female partner." Things didn't turn out well with my kids dad and after we broke it off, I dated women. I have been in a same sex relationship for almost 5 years now. Do I find people from the opposite sex attractive? Sure. Do I consider myself bi? Not really. My attraction doesn't really cross over to my sexual desire. I am attracted to women and my desires are to be with women. I had a really hard time in the beginning when I first "came out" to label myself. I don't care now because I am sure of who I am. People won't always understand, and that is ok. It is not your job to make everyone around you happy. I had to come to terms with that quickly because I received a lot of backlash from people around me.
My point is, if you have a desire, don't waste your time wondering. I didn't come out until I was 37. I feel like wasted so much time. I had the opportunity to have children and I love and cherish them deeply but I also spent most of their childhood depressed and unhappy. If you experiment and decide it's not for you, then at least you know!

I had my surgery in Tijuana Mexico... So by the time I got home I just had 4 days of clear liquids... Just as another note on this subject... Just because you mouth is temporary 'out of commission' doesn't mean you partner can't take full advantage of 'other' things.

Yes, I agree, when you feel comfortable, but my first week post op diet was Clear Liquids (that rules our 'swallowing') and the second week was full liquids (swallowing would be okay - I suppose)... but I would certainly I would use the comfort as the rule!

    Hi everyone,
I came across this post and thought I would say hello. I am a 40yo gay guy living in New Orleans with my partner of 7+ years. I have been on this weight loss journey since March, and, as of today, I have lost 88 pounds. My surgery is scheduled for September 28.
My story is in this post: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/375695-thoughts-after-my-six-month-nutrition-program/
I wrote that last week when I made my first post. Since then, I had my clearance-for-surgery appointment with my PCP (all my labs were in the normal range!!), and she assured me that the surgery is the way to go to finish the job I have started, and that my pre-op weight loss won't affect my post-op weight loss. My surgery was approved and scheduled, and my short-term disability claim for work has been initiated. It has been a busy week!
Hearing about everyone else's experiences is making getting ready for my surgery and the second half of this weight loss journey a lot easier!
I hope to hear from some of you.
    Blair

I'm gonna look into genpro. I have bought the organic low sodium broth - can't take it, at least right now. I haven't had a problem drinking fluids. I don't gulp but I drink a good amount at a time. That's one thing I was worried about. But it's all good.
I'm down 40 pounds from my high weight and lost about 17 pounds since last Thursday.

Just me, but I was allowed Campbell's heart healthy tomoato Soup made with Ultra skim milk. I didn't have any appetite so that felt good going down and had some flavor. At that point, I couldn't tolerate real cold stuff like ice beverages or popsickles very well. It was weird to swallow for quite a while but now I'm to the point where I don't think twice about drinking / swallowing more than a few sips time. I'm thinking that chugging anything is a thing of the past.
Things will get better and better as time goes on. Hang in there.

Man thank you so much. I have been doing 2 premiere Proteins a day, but they're wayyyyy to sweet. Chicken broth is wayyyy to salty. Lol. I am making do with Water and Jello sugar free pudding. Went to Starbucks and got a peach green tea lemonade unsweetened. Best thing ever. I'm doing good with getting at least 64 ounces of Fluid, but the sweet Protein - yuck.

Taxudown- I lived on Isopure Protein, Premier Protein, chicken broth, Popsicles ..... Because I got bored with regular chicken broth I started purchasing ramen noodles and drinking the broth only....I also would have Tomato Soup from time to time....hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions [emoji16]

Thank you all. Any advice on things that helped you the first two weeks, especially with the full liquids?
